Once upon a time, Miami HC Adam Gase oversaw a Denver offense that turned Julius Thomas into a fantasy beast. It appears Gase is ready to revisit that part of his playbook. Gesicki is one freaky dude. His NFL Combine numbers back up that athleticism: 4.54 speed at 6-6 and 247 pounds, 22 reps on the bench, 41.5-inch vertical, 129-inch broad and 6.76 on the 3-cone (anything under 7.0 at his size is phenomenal). His 34 1/8-inch arms would make a lot of offensive line coaches drool. His hands (10 1/4 inches) are about as sure as they come. Like Thomas, he is an oversized slot receiver. However, Gesicki is a far superior athlete. So the bottom line is this: if he can add the necessary strength to become even an average blocker without losing his current athleticism, we are probably talking about the next unstoppable force at the tight end position. Gesicki's floor should be as a field-stretching move tight end who dominates in the red zone. His ceiling could be Tony Gonzalez if he lands in the right system, and he found a good home here. Rookie tight ends don't produce very often (although he could be the same exception Evan Engram was last year), so redraft owners need to view him as a high-upside TE2. Dynasty owners should consider him as early as the late part of the first round.

Week one starter for the Dolphins.

Rookie season like you said Guru also tough to draft them.

But this guy could come on later on in the season.

If you like to take TE's late in redraft like I do he might be worth a pick up.

With Gase around, being in Miami is not a negative for his fantasy stock.

I love their draft so far. Still worried about their QB situation.

Agreed on the first point. I must be one of the last few people who believe Ryan Tannehill is more than just an average QB.

6'6" 250 with nearly a 42" verticle.
In high school the guy was his school's all time leading scorer in basketball and the state's slam dunk contest champion. 4 year volleyball guy.

Fairly useless as a blocker as TE at this time, but great ball skills, so I imagine Miami will use him as a slot type player more often than not.

Actually Manning turned Thomas into a fantasy beast. The fact that Gase had him last year and he performed no better than when he was in Jax proves that. I like Gase but Manning ran the offense. Gase was along for the ride and benefitted with an HC gig.

Gesecki is better that Thomas by a lot and he's on my draft list.

I think the fact Julius is a broken-down, nearly 30-year-old tight end who had nothing at QB was the reason for his lack of production last year. And still, he finished with 41-388-3. I will agree Gesicki is light years better and more athletic than JT ever was.

I've watched some of his games. Not all of them. From what I saw is he is a fluid route runner who can catch the ball on fades, over the middle, and contested passes. If the Dolphins have a decent run game, Gesicki will prove to be a great investment for Miami as he will be a great 3rd down target to split attention away from the run game. I'm buying in on him for fantasy.

I knew how athletic, and the upside he has. Just wanted to make sure their wasn't a hands of stone tendency in there.

As I said above, his hands are about as sure as they come. He had some drop issues early in his career, but he caught just about everything thrown his way over the last two years. FWIW, Lance Zeirlein said Gesicki hasn't had "a legitimate drop" in two years.

Miami fan and resident here...been a while but I'm always lurking.

Relative to where this kid is going in mocks as of now he has the potential to be an absolute steal.  The Dolphins WR corp is horribly average and the depth chart at WR is downright embarrassing.  Tannehill loves to dump the ball short and this kid is ridiculously athletic.

I know the track record for rookie TE's isn't great but if there was ever a rookie TE who walked into about the most favorable fantasy situation possible...it's THIS kid in THIS spot.

Buy buy buy.  I'm the type that typically waits on TE anyways so I'm always on the lookout for late values.  For 2018 my TE of choice will be this kid.

I like to draft a te late, and he is going to be my target.

So let’s not post too much good stuff about him going forward.

Lol, just kidding.

The Miami Herald reports second round TE Mike Gesicki "looked lost at times" during OTAs.
Analysis: Gesicki repped with the backups for most of the spring. It's not a huge concern at this stage, but Gesicki has some learning curve flags as a rookie tight end. With only A.J. Derby and MarQueis Gray ahead of him, there's a clear path for Gesicki to open the season in a starting role, though his blocking could limit him on early downs. Gesicki can be this year's Evan Engram if everything clicks.

Take him.

Don't look back on this and wish you didn't. A MAJOR reason we let Landry walk was because we were replacing his short yardage throws and RZ targets with a guy who can go grab everything thrown his way.

Look at these clips.

https://finheaven.co...step-up.348728/

Now let me put his combine into perspective for you....he ran FASTER than Antonio Brown, jumped HIGHER than Odell Beckham Jr., and is taller than Calvin Johnson. He put up 22 reps on the bench (O-Line status) ...all his drills, (the cone drill specifically stands out) belong in the company of the best in history.

I may be a homer, but I can tell you that ever since Gase has been in Miami he has not been able to run HIS offense. NOW he can! With Tannehill back, selfless scheme WRs, and the greatest physical gift at TE he has ever had...this is the time. Gase LOVES his TE, and this guy is one of the greatest physical freaks the NFL has ever seen (his combine was historical.) And to comment on the posts above....the problem was Julius and Slutty Cutty last year.

A LAST round, or $1 pick?? Grab him before the hype train starts at the beginning of the season.

He’s ADP is going too start rising.

I’ve always been in leagues that draft late into Aug, this is one situation that’s not going too be a benefit.

5th TE as a rookie? That's a big statement. Usually TEs take the longest to develop don't they? But I guess now they make some of them receivers. "TEs"

Ill be looking to take him in the last round of my 10 man and 12 man leagues. My leagues are TD heavy and I think he could develop into a Red Zone monster. Bold statement and extremely homer statement, but think if you could draft the next Gronk at the last round of this years draft? Easy guy to drop then if he is your 2nd tight end and he doesnt start strong. The upside is worth a roster spot.

10 man league keepers:  David Johnson & Antonio Brown

12 man league keepers:  Antonio Brown & Aaron Rodgers

If you tier TEs, you get 3 groups, and the first 2 groups probably total 5 or 6 of them. Unless you are in a league that doesn't pay much attention to football, you can't get him in the last round. You may have to aim to an earlier round for him. No?

It is possible. He isnt being drafted in the 10 man mocks I do on ESPN and Yahoo. Ill see where his ADP is at the end of the month and see when I would have to snag him. Hoping to not need him this year, but a diamond in the rough is always nice to find.

To clarify, my suggestion would be to take him as your #2 TE....if you're taking him as your #1 just know you're rolling the dice. I imagine the first half of the season his yardage totals will be very short and his only points will be off TD's. But by mid-season I think he will start putting up 60+ yard's and TD games...ending the season around 600 yards and 8 TDs. That puts him at 108 points and on par with what Evan Engram did his rookie season.

Seafoam, I just don't think many people will be putting Gesicki in one of those high tiers unless he starts flashing in pre-season. He is going undrafted in every mock draft I've done so far. I think hes ranked like 17-18th on ESPN. I feel like people stick with the rankings with TE's as much as they do with DEF...you can usually rely on the sleepers to be there.

UPDATE: What do you know boys? Today we had our scrimmage and take a look at these tweets.

Gesicki catches a 40 TD from Tannehill with McDonald and Fitz on him. It was a perfect throw and catch.

Mike Gesicki makes a nice adjustment to haul in a deep TD toss from Ryan Tannehill in 7-on-7s. Their strong connection continues #Dolphins

I'm not sure about how Miami will use him. but I think he will show to be in a higher class than Engram, who needed 115 targets to get 64 receptions. But Engram has Manning throwing to him so I can see maybe that's where that poor completion % comes from.

Mock drafts are hard to get a read on as many who do them only seem to pay attention for about 4-5 rounds.

You are probably right though. Guys like Brate, Doyle, Ebron etc. will most likely go before him. I'm in an auction league where we can put players under contract for a number of years and I sometimes slip into that mode of thinking instead of the normal redraft league that many folks are in.

Gotta think if he gets 100 targets, he's catching 80 of them.
All my research on the kid says his, wingspan/catch radius, and his hands a great. I believe Engrams hands was his flaw coming out of college.

I think like Phinfan said. Maybe starts alittle slow, then as the season roles on. Just becomes a ppr freight train down the stretch.
