Vegas: Your Game of Choice

Recommended Posts

When you go to Vegas what is usually your game of choice? There's usually the game we like play and the game we are good at. Card games, especially poker, I'm usually really good at but don't have as much fun playing. Craps I absolutely love but the dice don't usually roll my way.

Personally I'm a video poker fanatic.Especially like sitting at the bar and playing because drinks are faster and better imo,I can stop whenever and shoot the sh!t with people around me without having to concentrate then go back playing at my leisure and lastly since I got off the tables some years ago and started using my players card in a machine my tier standing and comps have grown considerably.

Other than that I love betting NFL Football, sports futures and the NCAA Tournament.

Blackjack for the most part. Usually a group of us will get a few Craps sessions in as well as the Roulette Wheel for funsies.

If there is a big poker tournament scheduled I usually enter on a flyer. But I don't usually go to the cash games. If I want to grind over a poker cash game I can do that at home.

I stay away from slots. Well sometimes we'll get good and lubed up and hit up the Wheel Of Fortune!$&! Machine. :). But that's about it.

Blackjack, video poker, poker. Spend the most time at video poker for the reasons nzoner said.

Outside of BJ, I like Let it Ride, and it's always fun to play roulette with a group. I will hit the craps table, but rarely.

Yeah forgot about video poker. Either at the bar where they are right in front of you or they normally have video poker right outside the poker room. So if I'm waiting to be seated or before a tournament to start I'll post up and play that for a session.

I have few buddies that love three card poker. Meh.

And Pai Gow tables or whatever that is, is always packed with Asians. Only Asians. I don't even know what that is.

When I was 11 my parents ran a couple video poker casinos on the border of north and South Carolina. I saw a lot of people lose in video poker so I was always worried they were programmed to make you lose more often. So I steered away from them. Unless it's the giant wheel of fortune

Agreed. Some of my favorite memories are of me and several buddies at the same Roulette wheel going bananas.

ETA: I was actually up in DC about a month ago for the Skins - Packers game. We hit up Maryland Live that Friday night. It was fun.

Pai gow has good odds if you know how to set your hands, which I don't. Baccarat has good odds too. Asians love baccarat. Usually high minimums though.

Wheel of fortune isn't a video poker machine dumbass.

And in what world do they allow 11 year olds to hang around a casino floor?

Parents ran the casino for a guy who lived in myrtle beach. So in the summer I had to go with them to work all day. Was pretty boring cause there was literally nothing at that state line except the 4 (might've been 5 can't remember exactly) casinos. So I mostly played on the little game they have on top of bars that isn't gambling but had different games on it. That and played my game boy. Had lunch there from the grill they had for customers. Honestly it was really a boring time when I was forced to go with them

Baccarat has the best odds in the casino if you don't play the Dragon/Panda/Tie

Paigow is mid range as far as odds, but best in terms of longevity of your coin

any game with a bonus bet like 3-Card, 4-Card, Let it Ride and Ultimate Texas Holdem are absolute robbery for the players and you have zero chance of winning long term

tried and true Blackjack and Baccarat are your best odds, but the casino does something clever in blackjack that truly very few people understand, they put 6-7 seats at a table which gives them almost a 9% advantage vs a full table. The game doesn't change but even perfect play is a major losing situation

1v1 in a single or double deck with proper play is your only shot

Never thought about the 6-7 people at a table angle, but it makes sense. What is the optimal amount of people to play with?

Best odds are full pay video poker if you can find it. Deuces wild can pay over 100% with perfect play.

Back in the day my favorite game was craps, if I was with a fun group of people. It takes a bit of a bankroll to play it but at the time I was a high-flying salesman and could afford the variance.

Without such a group I default to blackjack. Slots are meh to me, same with video poker as it seems like you are just sitting there by yourself slowly. Seems like nzoner and others make it a social thing so maybe I'll revisit.

Poker always seemed like too much work for Vegas. I can play poker here if I want to.

I love craps. It's such a fun game. Poker is a great deal of work. When I gamble I try to have fun while doing it. That's my main focus with winning money second.

i keep telling myself i'll get back into poker but its probably been 7 or 8 years since i played it in any casino.

basically i prefer to sit at a full blackjack table where people are drinking and having fun and I do simple card counting. +/- i play normally and if the count goes very -, i scale back to minimum table bet and if the count goes very + I will increase my bets. some tables have fun side bets. 20 is a favorite of mine. Basically anytime your cards = 20 you win 5X your side bet. suited is a bigger payout. double j's q's k's is a higher payout and dual Kings of clubs with the dealer getting blackjack pays something like 250 to 1. but with those side bets unless your always playing it or never playing it, it can get frustrating. tough to only play it every so often.

Blackjack is always number 1.

And craps is a lot of fun- but it moves fast and I need to be sober enough to track my bets and make sure they get paid- and not raked. A lot of the workers are yapping or worse, and either "miss" the payoff or worse.

My wife likes the WOF machines too, and it seems like she ends up a winning a few hundred every trip.

I don't tend to bet a lot when I gamble. Lots of times though I end up coming away with enough to pay for my hotel room though. So it works out usually

I'm very competitive and love playing games, including cards. But gambling doesn't do it for me, as I don't get too excited about winning or losing money.

It's all about the game for me. Some games are just more work than fun. I'd rather go, spend a hundred or two, and have fun doing it. I usually limit my bets to no more than $10 (mostly though I'd rather do $5).

Two questions, are you staying at the casino hotel and if so are you using a player's card when you gamble?

Back when I had a gambling problem I preferred craps and blackjack. Then when poker became popular I loved it and would play 15hrs straight sometimes at live tables. Nowadays I'm over it all and don't gamble besides the odd sports bet here and there. For my life I'm prob down 3-7k from gambling. Better than a lot of people who lose their whole lives and worth.

Agreed. I prefer to play against people in games that involve more skill than luck. I guess poker should qualify, though I get impatient waiting for a decent hand and don't enjoy studying the psychology of my opponents when I fold early.

Yes and I never got a players card. Usually don't play around with a lot of money so I never saw the point in getting one.

If I'm seriously trying to make money then yea poker is my game cause I'm pretty good at it. But it's more work than fun. I'd rather go play some thrill games and enjoy myself like craps or roulette.

From my experience(at least with Caesar's Entertainment) it doesn't take much to get comps started and if you're playing a couple of hundred each time you go you might be surprised what they'd send you.

I spend probably a hundred or two the whole time I'm there. I don't like to spend a lot of money gambling. I'd rather go to nice bars and restaurants or do some fun things around town. If I was going to spend quite a bit gambling then yea I would

They didn't build those casinos with it "working out usually." Just saying... :dunno:

Nor with comps.

Has anyone ever actually been comped on this board? I've never been and none of my friends and family ever have been. Most I've had happen I win enough money to pay for my hotel room while I'm there.
