Those in Keeper Leagues

Recommended Posts

in our 12 team .5 ppr league, we're allowed to keep one player from the previous season.

I've normally tried to keep that bargain WR or RB. For example. I kept Jeremy Hill as my 5th round pick two seasons ago. This year, I can keep Jordan Howard as my 5th round pick and draft in the 11th spot of a snake draft, or i can keep Le'veon Bell as my first round pick and draft in the 2nd spot. So i'd have Bell and then the 23ed overall pick next. The 11th pick overall and Howard as the 11th pick in the 5th.

What say you? Do you try to keep the "sure" thing (as sure as you can get) or do you tend to go with a later round pick from the year before that climbed that draft charts the next season?

I'd keep Howard. Bell at the #2 pick is about the highest he'd be drafted, so there's no real value there.

Way keep Howard. .5 PPR scoring and a first round pick to boot? Howard + another 1st rounder is a better start in my opinion. Chicago offensive line will kick ass this year and they will lean on it for the run game.

I have to admit though, this question is quite confusing to me. I'm guessing you have either Howard and the 11th overall pick and miss your 5th round pick or get Bell and miss your 1st round pick?

Have to go Bell. As much as I like Howard, he can't score 400 ppr points in a season. Bell can

True, but I think he needs to anticipate who will be available at the given draft spots. So, in a .5 PPR, would you rather have Howard and, let's say Demarco Murray, or Bell and, let's say, Crabtree? I don't know the league but if there are 12 keepers, then the difference between picking 11th and 23rd is huge.

Bell is motivated to earn a big contract.

I mostly play keeper leagues and prefer to build my team around the best player available especially in the first round.

Can you trade players and contracts for draft picks?

Talents like Bell are hard to get onto your team in the first place. I think you keep him.

keep in mind, this is the equivalent of a trade where:

you get Bell and a 5th and give up Howard and a first.

usually the team getting the best player wins the deal and I dont see a first round pick at #11 overall making up for the loss in production from Bell to Howard.

Since everyone is keeping 1 player, essentially the draft is starting in the 2nd round. So it's more like Bell and a 6th for Howard and a 2nd. Me... I'll take Howard and a 2nd.

Leveon Bell, easily

Keeping Howard and drafting 11th is trading down big time

WAIT! Re-reading this, I'm somewhat confused. Why is it that if you keep Bell, you pick 2nd... but if you keep Howard, you pick 11th? How does who you keep affect where in the draft order you pick?

He said Bell would count as his 1st round pick

I don't like Crabs as a comparison. Bell and Baldwin or Hill. Yes

@ polecat: "He said Bell would count as his 1st round pick"

@ seafoam1: "and howard as his 5th round pick..."

Yeah, I got that, but that still doesn't compute. He said that if he kept Bell, his first pick isn't until #23. That means that he has the 2nd pick in the draft. Does it not? So, if he kept Howard, why would his first pick be at #11 and not at #2?

Conversely... if he kept Howard and his first round pick, and that pick is at #11, then his second round pick is #14. So, if he kept Bell and lost his first round pick, then his first pick is at #14, not at #23.

For whatever reason, the decision was made that if you keep a player that counts as your 1st round pick, you move to the top of the draft order to prevent someone from getting David Johnson at the 12th spot of the 1st round. Not my idea, just how they designed it.

Correct.

So if you keep howard, you pick 11, 14, then at 35, and 38.

If you keep bell, you pick 23, 26, then 47 or whatever it is etc...

Only thing that troubles me about Bell is his injury history and his ability to get suspended at any moment. Do we really know if he's cleaned up his act?

First of all, good job of getting clarification on the drafting order. That alone makes you a valid FFB Guru in my book. As far as answering the question of who to take,as nice as it would be to have Bell (again), the value of Howard at the 5th round is just too good. Bell at the #2 spot is where he is supposed to go, Howard is in the 15-20 range. You would be getting him with pick #52 or whatever. In other words, "A steal"! I'd go with Howard.

Pick #60, but yes, I agree Howard is the better value. I consider Bell in the Elite camp and Howard as a solid RB. If I keep Howard, I won't have an elite RB or an Elite WR because they will be gone by pick #12. But, I can get two solid WRs or another solid RB and WR with the 12th and 13th picks.

Preseason pending, I'm leaning heavily Howard.

Just to play devils advocate to your point, I have won leagues because of depth at the RB position. Howard and 2 earlier picks is not a bad start.

I mean, what is the percentage of league winners that draft in the top 3 vs. bottom 3? i have no idea myself. ☺

I'd probably keep Bell. 5th round for Howard is great value but he's no sure thing. Bears offense is no sure thing. Bell is a stud and you're getting the opportunity, in a sense, to draft him before your opponents.

It really depends on the options available. If Gronk was available for a 5th, sure it's great value but wouldn't you still prefer Bell?

I say keep Bell, don't think too much about it, and let someone else reach for Howard. Much safer in my opinion.
