Ray_T 587 Posted November 28, 2017 What if they just cut him? I don't know how this stuff works. I;m not usre how much value he has anyway or what his contract is. I dont think they will be able to trade him for anything substantial. The large contract and his poor numbers the last couple of years will limit him. but if he gets traded it will be for a late round pick. if he gets cut, someone will sign him to a cap friendly, short term deal

Oriole8159 86 Posted November 28, 2017 What if they just cut him? I don't know how this stuff works. I;m not usre how much value he has anyway or what his contract is. he's outside of his guaranteed money, so they can cut him next year and not owe him a dollar. it would actually save them $16M in real money that he's owed next year. they'd have a pretty hefty $12.4M dead cap salary cap hit they'd have to swallow, but considering they're going to be bad next year anyway, it's manageable to avoid having to pay $16M in real money. scottsind 61 Posted November 28, 2017 How does this affect Engram? Real glad I picked up a Delanie Walker off waivers a couple weeks ago as I may start playing him over Engram. Thoughts?
bobby heenan 60 Posted November 28, 2017 Francesca is speculating it's the end of his career. thats the job of a sports radio host...to speculate on any and every possible outcome......it happens here in new england on eei too....you think we hadnt heard it all regarding jimmy g/brady over the last year or so? thats what those guys do....cover every possibility so they can say they talked about it way back when and trick u into thinking they know something
Maulers1973 117 Posted November 28, 2017 This is really dumb. His top 2 WR have been gone nearly all season long. HIs offensive line has been hot garbage nearly all season long. Yet, he is the reason they are losing?? How about benching some of those losers on the defensive side of the ball? How about firing that idiot HC? Remember when the Giants had Kurt Warner and they were like, "Yeah, his career is over. Stick a fork in him." Then, Warner went to the Cardinals and somehow, his career really wasn't over. Remember when Ben McAdoo was like the hottest HC candidate to ever come along in a long................oh wait, nevermind about this last part.

But the Coach would like to lay some blame on Eli rather than take the blame themselves. The real fault is likely that of the GM, but the coach isnt gonna play that card if he wants to coach in the NFL again. No GM in his right mind will hire a coach who would throw him under the bus. I'm no fan of Eli (I've had fun watching his struggles against the Vikings), and I think, despite his rings, he has no business being a HOFer. But between the injuries, the terrible line play, and the abysmal coaching, Eli had no chance of success this year. Maybe if they had a rookie with high expectations, but Geno focking Smith? RedzoneMonster 102 Posted November 28, 2017 How does this affect Engram? Real glad I picked up a Delanie Walker off waivers a couple weeks ago as I may start playing him over Engram. Thoughts? As a NYJ fan I can tell you Geno Smith is the worst QB to ever walk this planet. You might as well put my grandma in a TE this week, bc she'd put up the same numbers as Engram with Smith at QB.
Gepetto 977 Posted November 28, 2017 I think it's just to evaluate their backup QBs and get a better draft position. I think Eli will be starting for the Giants in 2018. McAdoo will be fired ... several games too late though.

phillygrrl08 139 Posted November 28, 2017 Yeah, I'm not seeing this as an Eli being punished, I see it more as why even risk an injury and let's see what the other guys can do

Smileseers 54 Posted November 29, 2017 I don't know how anyone who watched the interview today of Eli at his locker could think that he benched himself. This is the example of how the Giants treat one of the greatest Giants player ever. It will take years to rebuild the attitudes of the men in that locker room. The Giants, namely McAdoo, GM Reese and co-owner Mara jr, say they are making this move to evaluate Geno and Webb. How fair is it to them to be evaluated with these WRs and o-line? Eli is second behind Farve in not missing a game. Since Eli took over in 2004 from Kurt Warner he has not missed a game. How many games has Eli played hurt and given himself to this organization? McAdoo and Reese should be fired tomorrow.

Eli has sucked for a while. Why does a team owe it to a player to keep them around for as long as the player wants if the result will continue to be a crap product for the fans? I think they paid him well enough to grow up and be someone who understands that the franchise comes before his ego.
weepaws 2,451 Posted November 29, 2017 You don't assess the future with Geno Smith. I would agree that the team doesn't owe him anything, they already paid him for his services. But I still don't see why they would make this move and play Geno. This sends a message too the rest of the team off, We Quit.
