cbfalcon 824 Posted December 16, 2017 Ill get ahead of the fury on this and say.... Damon isnt in the wrong at all. But Milano is also completely correct. Women shouldnt have to stay silent and just accept less serious forms of harassment like ass-grabs, as doing so would help foster an environment in which more serious misconduct can occur. Then there is the juxtaposition of many people (see several of our very own Geeks) wanting to discredit women due to their previous unwillingness to rock the boat, yet now they want to discredit women for being too willing to rock the boat. Yes, some of these women are probably enjoying their feminist icon moment a bit too much, but its still a net positive without a doubt.........I say put it all out there. Ive even questioned if someone could come forward with a story about me.....but put it all out there. And while it may be messy and there will be some initial over reactions, we will sort it out in the long run and be much better as a society for it.
wiffleball 4,638 Posted December 16, 2017 Because God for Forking Bid anyone bring in nuance, context or rational thought to the conversation. Hell, even Feminazis are slagging other women for similar thoughts. Because, of course, Trailer Swift's 3 second full clothed ass-grab is exactly like a 5 person violent gang rape that leaves a chick fighting for her life and hemorraging uncontrollably. _________________________________- Matt Damon, ever the divisive Boston man, decided it would be a great idea to share all of his questionable opinions on sexual-misconduct in an interview earlier this week. Among the many ideas he wanted to get off his chest included visualizing a “spectrum of behavior” of inappropriate behavior (“there’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?”) as well as “a continuum” about what behavior is considered prison-worthy and what behavior is just “shameful and gross.” Alyssa Milano — who has recently been accused by her former Charmed co-star Rose McGowan of her own Harvey Weinstein complicity — thinks Damon’s reasoning is terrible and wants you to know it. “Dear Matt Damon, It’s the micro that makes the macro,” she wrote. “We are in a ‘culture of outrage’ because the magnitude of rage is, in fact, overtly outrageous. And it is righteous. I have been a victim of each component of the sexual assault spectrum of which you speak. They all hurt. And they are all connected to a patriarchy intertwined with normalized, accepted — even welcomed — misogyny. We are not outraged because someone grabbed our asses in a picture. We are outraged because we were made to feel this was normal. We are outraged because we have been gaslighted. We are outraged because we were silenced for so long. There are different stages of cancer. Some more treatable than others. But it’s still cancer. http://www.vulture.com/2017/12/alyssa-milano-slams-matt-damon-over-his-misconduct-opinions.html
titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted December 17, 2017 I dont so much have a problem with it coming out. What I have a problem with it coming out decades after the fact where there is no opportunity for defense (not to mention the fact that it places situations in the 1970s in todays context). That and the fact that it is just instant guilt. Its a digital lynch mob. If your boss grabbed your ass yesterday, by all means, nail his ass to the wall. If he did it thirty years ago, you made your choice to do nothing. Own it.
kilroy69 994 Posted December 17, 2017 I just don't care about this movement. Really. Not even a little bit. If I started a business today. I would not hire a woman till the law forced me to.
