Sho Nuff 719 Posted March 14, 2017 voting to rip health insurance away from 14 million people is a death sentence for reelection for any of those people. They will never be able to get that off of their record More than that over the years too. That's just by 2018. And just the initial estimate.

They will never be able to get that off of their record Right but is it "ripping " away healthcare...or is it a case where people wont get healthcare once they are not FORCED to. Im guessing its actually the latter.

Filthy Fernadez 2,696 Posted March 14, 2017 I'm not defending this but at the sillyness of some suggesting all people want healthcare i.e. all should be forced to have it. The mandate is part of what's driving this repeal of that turd called Obamacare. It goes back to everyone has to enroll, pay higher premiums and very high deductables so the poor will be covered. Sounds socialist to me. Put the poor on Medicare and tell them beggars can't be choosers. To fund it, cut some other social/environmental programs. Or cut foriegn aid. MDC 5,878 Posted March 14, 2017 The free market has utterly failed when it comes to healthcare. We pay a higher % of GDP than any other country for a system that leaves millions uninsured and is too expensive for the overwhelming majority of Anerican families to buy into unless it is heavily subsidized by their employers. Companies are pushing back more and more of the costs to their workers. Premiums are escalating at an unsustainable rate. It's time to just scrap this system entirely and start over. Unfortunately, with a system like ours, despite all the great things about it, greed ultimately takes over. And when the richest people have all the power, laws are written to make sure the wealthiest get the most breaks.

Mike Honcho 4,010 Posted March 14, 2017 While everyone has been focusing on the flaws of the new plan, being overlooked is that the CBO straight says Obamacare isn't in a death spiral and the markets are stabilizing. In CBO and JCT’s assessment, however, the nongroup market would probably be stable in most areas under either current law or the legislation. Under current law, most subsidized enrollees purchasing health insurance coverage in the nongroup market are largely insulated from increases in premiums because their out-of-pocket payments for premiums are based on a percentage of their income; the government pays the difference. The subsidies to purchase coverage combined with the penalties paid by uninsured people stemming from the individual mandate are anticipated to cause sufficient demand for insurance by people with low health care expenditures for the market to be stable. Hardcore troubadour 12,595 Posted March 14, 2017 The CBO isn't exactly in the middle of a winning streak. Stabilizing? They should after premiums went up at least 25% PCT everywhere. Most businesses do stabilize when they start taking in more money and provide less service. Face it, Obamacare needed to be heavily subsidized to work. Reality 2,710 Posted March 14, 2017 CBO has proven that it's findings really aren't worth the price of the paper it's written on. I'm actually embarrassed for the people that rely on it. HTH
RaiderHaters Revenge 3,566 Posted March 14, 2017 i stand corrected. Still don't think their existence provides enough decent jobs to solve our healthcare problems though. I am not saying it does, however there are jobs in each state, and most casinos offer healthcare. If you are unhappy with minimum wage and no insurance, there are lots of minimum wage with insurance jobs in casinos, and lots you can make tips also at any given time, I can get a job dealing pretty much anywhere. Its a shitty job, but pay is good, and class was affordable and very short. What other job can you take a 3 month class for $1000 approx and make 50k+ a year right out of the gate

NewbieJr 540 Posted March 14, 2017 Ditto, from the self-proclaimed uninformed. You don't pay attention to any of this stuff, by your own admission, why would I care what you have to say? I don't care what you, specifically, have to say. But I knew the right, in general, would attack the CBO because they didn't like their findings. While not perfect, the CBO is the closest thing we have to predicting the impact a bill like this will have. They said that 14 million would lose insurance immediately. Another independent study came up with 16 million. So Trump and his sheep can treat the CBO like they do the media and anything else that won't lie to protect them. But their findings drove the final nail in the coffin. Too bad, so sad.

NewbieJr 540 Posted March 14, 2017 14 million equals what 4% of the population? It equals 14 million human beings who are American citizens. Cruzer 1,992 Posted March 14, 2017 14 million equals what 4% of the population? Interesting number, can be dressed up many ways. * 14 million uninsured? MDC 5,878 Posted March 14, 2017 Obummercare sucks because it failed to address the biggest problem with healthcare: Very few Americans can afford to buy it in the open market and costs are escalating at an unsustainable rate. Unfortunately Republicans think repealing the ACA is somehow going to fix these problems. Along with tort reform and selling insurance across state lines, their other favorite pet rocks. I almost can't wait for the GOP to ramrod it's healthcare plan through so we can all see it does nothing to expand coverage or reduce costs. Of course that will be Obummer's fault too. After they are screened and documented. 15% of federal prisoners are Mexican citizens. Sorry if you don't like that, but it happens to be true. California prisons are much worse.
