10th spot, 12 team league, what to do?

Recommended Posts

League details: 12 team redraft

6 pts all TDs

1 pt per 10 rush/recieve yards

1 pt per 25 pass yards

1 pt per reception

Start: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K, DST

I'm in the 10th spot, and was honestly prepared, motivated, and studied up to go WR-WR and do it with confidence. Please don't use this post to tell me how stupid WR-WR is, but instead, answer my question. Doing a little homework on my league, I've now determined that AT LEAST 2 Non-RBs are going to go before me. Therefore, a minimum of 8 RBs will go off the board:

L. Johnson, L. Tomlinson, S. Alexander, T. Barber for sure. The rest are a toss up.

Basically, my question is, in order, which running backs would you say I CANNOT pass up at #10? I am actually expecting Clinton Portis to fall to me, and feel like I am a fool if I don't take them.

How do you rank some of the guys I could have fall to me: Portis, E. James, S. Jackson, R. Johnson

I really see Jackson & Portis falling to me, and me needing to make a decision on it. What do y ou think?

If SJax and Portis are there, YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO TAKE THEM. Do not even hesitate. There are both going to have very good seasons. People are overly concerned about Portis' injury, just make sure that you grab Betts just in case. Al Saunders has stated that he is comfortable with the ball in Betts hands, so if Portis is still hurting you can still plug Betts into the lineup without hesitation.

TAKE PORTIS AND SJAX and :(

Well, I won't be able to take both. 12 team league. Jackson will go to team 11 or 12. But I've pretty much assured myself that I'll take Portis if he is there at 10. I'm not that worried about the injury, honestly.

If Jackson is still up at 10, I have to jump on that also, correct? Assuming Portis is gone.

Absolutely. I have Portis at five on my board and SJax at six. I expect good numbers from both this season.

As you, I also have the 10th pick out of 12. I was also very interested in going WR-WR at 10 and 15. BUT after thinking about it I realized that out of Sjax, LaMont, & Rudi at least 1 if not 2 will be there at #10. I also realized that I can get either Ronnie Brown or Caddy on the way back at 15. And any combination of those RBs would be amazing. You can still snag guys like Hines Ward, Anquan Boldin, Chris Chambers, Darrell Jackson, I've even seen Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison drop. I am not trying to convert you to go RB-RB, just give you the reasons why I am back to my senses and have decided to go RB RB.

**I wouldnt pass on Sjax if I were you.

sorry, back to your question:

1. portis as long as no bad reports between now and your draft.

2. s-jax, i think he is going to get a load of touches.

3. edge, i love this guy. ol shakey, of course.

4. rudi. tell me if you think i'm nuts downgrading him for this. last year he had a ho-hum 1st 8 games. last 8 were great. not consistant weekly ff points but great totals. isn't it crank that argues week in, week out good performance?

Larry I would consider Ronnie just a step below Portis and SJax, still a solid 1st round pick, but not as big a steal at this point as the other 2 would be. I'll put it this way, I would not cry if he fell to me...

I don't include Ronnie Brown in that discussion. I don't know why, I'm just still not quite sold. No reason other than that. But if he is there at #15, I think I have to take him, and say ###### the top tier WR.

Still have to try and put together the best team, regardless of my wants and desires at Wide Reciever.

I'm just so worried many of these guys could end up like last year's first round RB busts. Julius Jones, Dom Davis, Ahman Green (a bit later), Jamal Lewis. I just don't want to be that owner.

Oh god. Dont worry me :ninja: . I do see what you mean. I plan on taking Chester Taylor in the 4th b/c thats how worried I am. Then take Donald Driver in the 5th, which is the same if not better than the type of WRs I can grab in the 4th.

My team could look like this

Sjax

Downtown Ronnie Brown

Chester Taylor

Hines Ward

Donald Driver

^^I would be very very happy with those building blocks of a FF team. :D

Good Luck :)

troops, i'm using antsports adp rating as i prepare & i'm sorta mixed up. please let me know if you think antsports adp is o.k.

weez, i hope you don't mind if i use your post as an example of what i'm thinking as you were the kind one that outlined your 1st 5 picks.

your thought: antsports adp says they will go at:

#10 s-jax #6

#15 ronnie #8

#34 ward #32

#39 chester #30

#58 driver #43

wouldn't you have to be very, very lucky for any of these to fall to you or is an adp list not really a good projection?

My league is drafting on ESPN. I have done many many many Mocks on ESPN and everytime I am at #10/12 I can always get these players at these spots. In my league I am confident I can do the same. From my point of view, and my mocks, i see no reason that you couldnt get these players at these spots, b/c I always have. HOWEVER it may be different for you, I was just using my own personal accounts. Good Luck however you decide to draft.

I find that Antsports is pretty good, but any mock draft is skewed by the order which the players are placed on THEIR pre-rankings, so it is not the Holy Grail of ADP, but it is the best available, at least that I know about. I have done Mocks on ESPN, and have been able to land some of my "sleepers" much later on that site that I was able to get them on Antsports, but I think that that is due to where ESPN places them on their pre-rankings.

Bottomline: You never know how much other owners value a player, until he is drafted, but Antsports is a pretty good place to get an idea where they are going.

I see what you mean. I will prove to you that this team is very possible to get, and I will be posting it right after my draft to get my draft "grade". Look out on Sept 2, when I have Sjax, Ronnie, Chester, Hines, and Donald Driver.....

Looking forward to the draft results, I don't find it hard to believe that you will land those guys, especially if people are following ESPN's player rankings, but if these are hardcore guys they may be onto the value of those players. Keep us posted.

The league has about 8 vets. 3 Rooks. and 1 New Guy. I still think I can get these guys, b/c Peyton goes every year in the 1st round, TO will go at #9 this year (living in the DFW, but a proud Packer fan), and I expect someone to take Steve Smith. I have also done some underground research and polled the guys at 11 and 12 (both the rooks) neither of them like Ronnie Brown. The league isnt too high on taking #3 RBs early, so I should get Chester, and I know I can get a good WR in the 3rd. The player I am most worried about is Donald Driver, b/c there is 1 other die hard Packer fan, BUT he is picking at #3(51) and I could see him thinking that is too early for Donald seeing as his ESPN ranking is something like 68. Anyways, I will def post the team on Sept 2.

In that case you have a good chance to land those players because those new guys probably will follow the pre-rankings posted on ESPN. I hope you get those guys because you will be well on my way. Keep your eyes peeled for some great sleepers if drafting on ESPN, because there are some high value WR that are way down on their rankings (i.e. ABryant, RBrown, etc.) and people may not even look that far down the rankings.

damn, weez. i draft the week prior to you. wish i knew how yours turned out before mine. something i never considered that fbh brought up. the draft can go way different depending upon which adp the guys use. in my case, 14 teams & i don't know how many look at adp but probably not many which makes things even more unpredictable. but based upon what you say, maybe i have hope of getting something closer to what you are shooting at than what i'm mocking (playing with myself, pun intended) from antsports.

please do post your results.
