Absurd, I love the game but, this is where they lose me. Common sense needs to take over at some point.

There are several rules changes coming, including the ability to repair spike marks instead of just ball marks when they are in the line of your putt.

 

Dropping the ball from shoulder height is also going to be changed, in favor of a drop from a couple of inches above the spot.

 

This is another change that has to happen. Accidents like this need to be accounted for without penalty. They shouldn't result in stroke penalties; there is too much money on the line, as well as game credibility.
