Josh Gordon place on NFI list

Recommended Posts

Gordon won't report to camp with team

Josh Gordon announced on Twitter he'll miss the start of training camp to focus on his overall mental and physical health, but the NFL told cleveland.com he has not been suspended.

There is currently 'no timetable for his return,' NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy also told cleveland.com.

"We'll address the matter at the appropriate time,'' said McCarthy.

Gordon will be placed on the non-football injury list as camp opens on Thursday.

Rumors had swirled for the past month or so on the internet that Gordon had failed another drug test, but it's not yet known if that's the case.

This could be nothing, but something doesn't smell right. Stay tuned...

Fans are thinking this has something with him avoiding Hard Knocks which could have a negative effect on him. I agree. It makes sense.

While it certainly wouldn't surprise me if he failed another drug test, mental health issues and substance abuse issues go hand in hand.

If that gets bad enough it can lead to some physical health issues. I know counseling and such was part of his reinstatement so this may be related to all of that as well.

In any case let's hope he gets it together.

it is even possible that the NFL didnt want this under the microscope with the hard knocks thing on TV.

Per Adam Schefter...

Browns’ WR Josh Gordon did not have any slip ups or failed tests, per sources. His leave is a pro-active, defensive gesture to get extra counseling to try to ensure he does not have any of the setbacks that have marked his past. Those who know him say he has “worked his a— off.”

great news.

I'm sure the extra pressure of having extra media there does not actually make it easier for him either.

If it is a pro active move, I applaud him for making it.

I really hope for the best for the young man.

If he can exorcise his demons and stay clean, he will be a game-changer for the Browns.

Rooting for him to overcome his problems and addictions. Having said that, I wont have any exposure to him from a fantasy perspective outside of DFS.

Give him credit for admitting he has a problem and wanting to fix it instead of being a deadhead. Might be the only player i do have some empathy for his determination to battle.

I heard on radio he has a very large possitive crowd around him and they called him out for some behavior that could lead to bad decisions and he immediately checked into this program. Also read he is dealing with some anxiety leading up to camp and wanted to get his head in the right place and he use to use pot to settle himself when these things came up

I think by all sounds of it this is somebody who has some legitimate problems being proactive and getting ahead of things

well, getting good people around you to help keep you on the right path is usually more than half the battle I think.

sounds like hes got that.

Hopefully he can keep it real.

GM John Dorsey is being vague on the Gordon situation...

Dorsey on Josh Gordon being back in 2018: 'Yeah, I would think, absolutely.''

Dorsey on Gordon saying he'll be back "soon": "It could mean many things, a month, 3, days, 10 days, 30 days....let' see what it is''

Dorsey on if Gordon might be suspended down the road: Let's let him do what he needs to do, respect his privacy and "when he comes back, we'll embrace him''

Dorsey also admitted the team has had discussions about bringing in Dez Bryant.

DND, the guy is a season killer and headcase. He will have a huge game then get deactivated for unknown reasons for 5 weeks. I don’t draft guys who the coach THINKS MIGHT be out there.

Rolling with that thought, a guy who was right next door to Gordon in early June ADP was Larry Fitzgerald. Now that's somebody you can bank on.

He was much on my radar, if he remains his adp and no bad reports come out he could have upside.

This dude.

Chance after chance after chance and the narrative is somehow what a great courageous guy he is.

I've NEVER seen a player take the path he has, and come back and be a productive part of the NFL. They alllllllways talk about "coming back, found god, cleaned up,etc, etc, etc... but never do anything. Blackmon, Gordon, Manziel....first three off top of my head. There are more. I wouldn't touch Gordon with a 39 1/2 pole.

I don't really remember anyone saying that. I remember the general consensus being "he's a flipping moron". Even now, I don't think anyone is saying he's "courageous", but diligent. In order to not relapse, he's being pro-active. That's not courageous, it's smart. It's the right thing to do. If he does relapse, the narrative will go back to him being an idiot. Now of course, the pot heads of America will defend him saying that weed should be legal, but that's a different debate all together.

Good one.

Here's another. Cris Carter had a pretty serious drug problem, was cut outright because of it, and he turned it around. Now he's in the Hall of Fame.

A week before training camp, he decides he needs to do preventative rehab for an indefinite amount of time. Man, what an amazing guy. He should be commended and respected. It's just so damned commendable.

Gordons comeback is one of the most inspiring stories in the NFL today, and itll continue to be a stirring story line whether he is back in September or needs to delay his return as he prioritizes his mental health and well-being
