I have no desire to have an intelligent discussion with Pen on gun control. It's impossible given his idiotic stance that suicides should be thought of in the same vein as a mass school shooting. So yeah, I went there. With you I was actually trying to have an intelligent discourse. You pretty much blew that up though.
An intelligent discussion sometimes entails addressing opinions on issues which dramatically differ from you own. It also entails keeping an open mind. Name-calling and summarily dismissing suicide as a component of gun deaths does neither. Moreover, it diminishes your credibility amongst other poasters.
If you want an echo chamber, have at it. But I've brought more data to this debate than just about anyone, including a lot which has nothing to with suicide.
Fundamentally, I agree that people should have the right to take their lives under certain circumstances. I also acknowledge many of them are being reactionary to a temporary problem, under the influence of mind-altering substances or suffering from treatable mental illness. It isn't black and white in my eyes, nor the eyes of the law. You don't have to agree with the law, but it doesn't change the fact that stopping a suicidal individual is not assault.
