Le’Veon Bell - The hold out continues!

Recommended Posts

Yes he started last year week one, but there is true fantasy gold if he sits out.

I have picked up Conner late in my draft and I think everyone should be picking him up.

For a PPR league, Conner has shown he is a viable three down back.

With Bell and all of his nonsense, Pittsburgh may very well not play him. Things could easily blow up, not to mention bell could get hurt and want to sit out because he doesnt want to risk further injury.

Theres so many people talking about how you should draft Bell with the second pick, yet I think thats a huge risk.

I have found overconfidence is what you see on TV, the doubters are the ones that find the true gold.

Anyone else agree??

Update- (Thanks Pee-Diddy)

Update- 9-11-18 9:47 pm

The Steelers no longer list Le'Veon Bell on the team's official depth chart.

It's purely a procedural move, since Bell isn't officially on the roster as he continues his holdout. The Steelers get a roster exemption for Bell, and he doesn't count toward the 53-man unit. James Conner, fresh off his overall RB2 finish Week 1 against the Browns, is listed as the starter and will remain there until Bell ends his holdout, which it's anyone's guess when that will be.

Le'Veon Bell was removed from the Steelers' active roster on the team website.

Shefter says theres been zero contact between Bell and the Steelers even though theres talk of bell coming back week seven, during the bye. ( I seriously doubt it )

I'm a Bell owner who's starting to turn a little anxious and was hoping this post was offering some concrete news about the situation, one way or the other.

Anyone who drafted Bell over the other top 3 consensus rbs made a big mistake. If he was the 4th pick, well I wouldn't have wanted to be in that position, but I get why someone would make it. If people passed on David Johnson for Bell because of some ridiculous notion that Bell was somehow safer and has higher upside, I am going to laugh pretty hard.

If you drafted Bell, I hope you reached a little for Connor. I will be starting Connor in my flex if Bell doesn't play over the likes of Royce Freeman or Carlos Hyde.

Bell isn't holding out, rumor is he'll report Monday. He started slow last year but came into practice the same week last year it just took him a few games to get going. With that in mind, Connor isn't a bad late round flyer, because Bell has a decent likelihood of pulling something or getting an injury, and with a slow start may be on a snap count. Anyone drafting Bell should back him up with Connor for sure. And anybody who didn't could take a 1-3 week stab on having what would be a top 20 RB were Bell to go down.

Why all the Connor talk when Jalen Samuels is lurking and being loved?

Connor is much improved over last year. Samuels has shown well, but for the most part it hasn't been against starting defenses in preseason. Plus, he's a rookie and still developing as a blocker/learning the system.

Samuel looks like he has some real upside. I think they probably trust Connor the vet over Samuel who hasn't been treated as a starter really. Especially week 1. Why put too much trust in a rookie when a more experienced rb who has looked really good is on the team? Maybe if it's a multi week holdout

Bell has been a keeper of mine for a few years and I draft tomorrow. If news containing a positive resolution happened to come out today, I could probably obtain Conner more cheaply.

I am 2-for-2  your posts today. I've seen Bell go #1 so often that it makes me laugh (and cry).

I don't understand how everyone is so convinced that Bell will: 1) report, 2) hit the ground running, 3) won't lose some work this season to a much-improved Conner, 4) ignore the history of recent 400-touch backs, 5) not try to preserve himself if he does get dinged or 6) adjust seamlessly to a new OC.

Did I miss anything?

Pretty much. My buddy and I who were picking 5th and 6th listed all of that between us before the draft. I told him You better not pass on Bell if he falls to you and make me have to think about it.

Bullish on Bell.

On one hand I dont like taking a risk in the 1st round.

On the other hand he is playing for his last payday that will take him to the end of his prime. He will be ready. He has last year to learn from and improve how he went about the holdout. Last year after a holdout Steelers fed him to the tune of his most carries and catches in his career. Even if Connor gets some more work it seems like Bell will get plenty of volume.

Hard to say who I would take him over in the top 3. I pick 2nd on Monday. Would like to take Bell but may chicken out.

I think I have Conner on at least two teams (not including dynasty) and will shoot to take him in my remaining 5-6 drafts. I do not have nor do I plan to draft Bell.

Bell screwed himself. He has no more leverage. The Steelers have capable backups. I am never paying a guy like Bell because for one, the miles, and for two, no way he performs up to his contract. I can't stand when a player signs a contract which means he now he doesn't have to work as hard or be as productive.

samuels could win your league for you in yahoo. Fantasy is always about the next man up. If samuels gets extended play where he qualified at te but put up rb stats it would give like colsten the year he qualified at rb/te

at $875,000 per game?! Dude wants to get paid. He did so for 20% less last year, every game.

right. Dude wants to get paid. He is a rental at 12 mil. If they put another 400 touches on him again. He increases both his risk of injury and the perception that he has too much wear and tear. If he cuts the touches down to 175 to 200 he minimizes the risk. It is a huge bet on himself for sure. But if he gets a 5 year deal with a ton of frontloaded cash after the 8 mil he loses with the steelers won't matter. Rbs have fewer opportunities to make money than a wr or a qb. Once their rookie deal is done they get usually one payday as their career is shorter.

He wants 17 mil per year. In an era where running back comes out of no where and put on a show, it's really hard for a team like the steelers giving in on his demand.

He'll show up. He won't be happy...but he'll show up because he's 26 and turning 27 year next year.

Bell is going to play not to get hurt football . He knows that if he can survive this year without injury, someone will bite on a big contract offer. He also knows that if he does get a serious injury (knee) his career and chance at a big contract is essentially over.

The problem with playing not to get hurt is when an injury is most likely to happen. I'm

Staying away.

Injuries can't be predicted, and I'm not wishing anything on him. But 400 touches last year, in addition to a cautious approach, no real training camp.....equals danger

I am not too concerned with him actually playing cautious. If he is playing he will be doing his best. Football players know that being cautious can lead to injury. It's if he gets a little dinged up, will he push through the discomfort or injury when he doesn't have to?

I said it before, Ill say it again... this time in regard to Samuels.

In what leagues do you have enough roster space to draft/pick up... the guy, behind the guy, behind the guy.

People think theyre Gurus on here throwing out third string/practice squad players so that they look so smart if the long shot performs, but in most cases its so unrealistic.

In both leagues Im in, I have 7 bench spots... Im not using one of them for RB3 of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And IF you want to put names out there, and you think theyll stick... give me proof that player is on your team, otherwise STFU kindly.

Lev is kicking it at the scrip club slapping bottoms and the Pittsburg is leaking contract offer details. This isn't going to turn out well for Lev owners. Let the Connor drafters benefit from their brilliance.

All good comments, Conner is the clear #2.

I just think the media is stupid. They have had no doubt that he plays week 1, and I think that is stupid.

My 2 favorite picks in my draft were Conner and K. Cole. Both late picks!

This for sure, hes legit dumb if he does. The millions he loses out on will be pennies compared to the guaranteed money he gets from free agency. Another big year would be cool, sure but like you said, more miles on the tires and less money from the offers. Every game is somewhere around 6% raised chance of getting hurt and that guaranteed money goes poof.

I dont agree. You cant play "dont get hurt football" and these players know it. He played tough as nails last year on a 1 year deal after holding out. He wants to max his value. Playing like crap wont max his value. Getting hurt will not max his value.

I agree with Tan. He SHOULD hold out as long as possible. But playing like crap. Pretending to be injury ridden all year. Those all decrease his value. And he is playing for a contract that pays him the most possible money and securing him at a tough position to play and stay healthy.

Bell isn't holding out, rumor is he'll report Monday. ...

Forgive me for asking but I just wanted to double check that this rumor is fresher than the "he'll rejoin on Labor Day" report that he denied in the Tues Aug 28 blurb.

- - - -

I always print out a copy of the ESPN 300 on draft day to put over top of my real cheat sheets for "deception purposes", and I happened to see that Le'Veon Bell is this morning's ESPN #1 pick. :dunno:

I don't know the details around what holding out does to his current $14 million contract, but if he does lose nearly $900 thousand per game, then goes out there in game 7, and gets an ACL in week 13 or something, how does that help his financial situation? Plus, this year could be the best chance ever that Bell has to get a SB ring, given not knowing where he could end up since he is just chasing the money.

And as an aside, just curious, but if Bell was a true FA this year and signed by let's say Miami, or the Jets, where would you have drafted him this year?
