18.10 The French Connection 70s

------

19.1 Halloween - Horror

I could take them both as 70s, but I sense that I'd rather have an open slot in 70s than in 60s. So I move Halloween into 'Horror' and bump Psycho from Horror into 60s. Or I might move it back. When the time comes, I'll have to take a look at what 60s and 70s are available and sort it out then.

19.8- A Bridge Too Far - 70's

The rare war movie about a mission that failed, Operation Market Garden

The Cast:

Sean Connery

Michael Caine

Robert Redford

Gene Hackman

Anthony Hopkins

James Cann

Ryan O'Neil

Lawrence Olivier

Elliot Gould

Dirk Bogarde

Liv Ullman

Maximilian Shell

Denholm Elliott

John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavin)

Directed by Richard Attenborough. It was believed that it didn't receive Oscar consideration because it showed the inadequacies of the Allied military operations. It was a different world back then. And Gene Hackman was the best of the bunch playing a Polish commander.

I've been waiting for somebody to take Vertigo considering how popular it is. Surprised it lasted this long. I let it go since I didn't much like it personally. Ben-Hur had been the top of my 50s list. Rear Window is really good, my favorite of these two Hitchcock movies.

I've liked both of those movies since high school. Partly because I got to spend time in class watching movies but also because I thought they were pretty good. You can't go wrong with Jimmy Stewart.

It's wrong to say I didn't like Vertigo. He did a good job giving us all a sense of vertigo.

I only really been disappointed in one Hitchcock movie: The Birds. Focking Birds, man. I was sure I got a defective VCR recording. Movies are supposed to have a climax and a resolution. With The Birds, they ended the movie halfway through. It felt like they ran out of budget or film or maybe a van carrying all the actors fell off a cliff and they decided "fock it: we'll just air what we've filmed up to this point."

It was a good movie to that point. I think Hitchcock was trying to be cute and got too smart for himself.

17.8 - A Few Good Men / 90's

Gotta hand it to those federal marshalls...

You'd provoked a mini-crisis with this pick seeing as you'd already had two 90s entries. Fortunately, you had room in "drama" so I was able to put it in there and avoid a problem.
