  1. Since it's now the weekend - and I'm no longer at work - send me an email to mccowanssac@gmail.com if you're interested. Provide me with a phone number so we can talk... Thanks! Stu
  2. Hey folks! I run an old (20+ years) points only league here in the Chicago area and lost an owner this year so have room for 1 more. We use MyFantasyLeague.com and will be drafting next Tuesday night in Warrenville, IL (near I88 and Winfield Rd). We're looking to fill the spot with an experienced FF pro who appreciates the purity of a points-only league (no lucky head-to-head winners here!). Half the league will be attending the draft in person, and the other (remote) owners draft online and over the phone, so if you're interested it isn't strictly necessary to be at the draft in person. We'll have the live draft room up online and a conference call line open for trash talking, so you can really live anywhere and still join us. Only condition is the league fee of $300 is due by the draft, so you can pay in person if attending or send it to me via PayPal. I've posted the league rules below, but here are some highlights in a nutshell: 1) Points only (no divisions or head-to-head). Weekly prizes, overall prizes, and even a small Play-Off pool. 2) Fairly standard scoring except TE's get 1 pt for every 7 yards. The 3rd WR slot is really a flex WR/TE... 3) All money (minus the $70 fee for MyFantasyLeague) is paid back out as prize money. I don't make anything for running this league. 4) 10 man league (9 at the moment), but I'd consider inviting 3 more for a total of 12 owners if I get enough interest. 5) Never - in more than 20 years - have I ever had issues with collusion or dishonest owners... 6) Because we pull aside a small pool of cash (~$250) and run the league all the way through the real NFL Play-Offs, you'll want to draft accordingly. For example, if I had to choose between 2 RBs of similar talent, I might pick the RB on the Packers or Eagles (who are likely to make the Play-Offs) over a RB on the Panthers or Browns (who are likely to suck this year). 7) Because of this Play-Off pool, all rosters lock upon kick-off of the first Thanksgiving Day game. A single Add/Drop per owner is allowed after this lock to allow for injuries. This rule basically prevents owners from stocking up on Play-Off bound guys the last week of the regular season... If interested, read the rules below and then send an email to my work email address - stuart.mccowan@tigerdirect.com and I'll respond with a call or email and we'll talk. Thanks for taking the time to check this out! Stuart Here are the rules and payouts: Fantasy Football Rules – Darryl’s Dummies 1) HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE This league is one of the oldest, continuous fantasy football leagues in the country, going on nearly 20 years now. Founded (I think) around 1990 by Darryl Richardson and some of his drunken friends, it was run in the early days by hand – no computers or fancy internet scoring back then. Darryl tallied the scores from the weekend manually, and faxed over the results to all the owners every week. For his early work running the league, he has our gratitude. As times changed, Darryl took on help running the league. At one time or another, Steve Kmiec and myself have acted as co-commissioners along with Darryl. At the present, I run the league as acting commissioner, with Darryl as a behind-the-scenes organizer and advisor. This year – 2011 – sees the following owners again stepping up to the plate: Stuart McCowan (Highlanders) (Commissioner) Darryl Richardson & Danielle Deck (Queenzilla) Lou Holland & Byron White (Badger Boys) Don Andes & Hamilton Rice (Puddle of Mud) Steve Kmiec (Primetime Playas) Steve Connor and Rob Reynolds (Momma’s Boys) Jason Mogyorody (100% Texans) Mike Feinberg (Sterling Sharpies) Mark Bichler (One Hit Wonders) Room for 1 to 3 more owners… 2) DRAFT DATES & TIMES We’ll run the draft this year via MyFantasyLeague and a conference call on Tuesday night, September the 6th. Regular season starts Thursday the 8th. Standard snake draft with order being determined the night of the draft (cards are picked from a hat). Draft generally goes from around 7:00 pm CST to 10 pm CST (depending on how long Darryl takes...). Two minutes max per pick (pfft…). Draft ends after 15 rounds. 3) BUY-IN AND PAYOUTS A flat fee of $300 is due before the draft (if you’re a remote owner) or cash for those at the actual draft. If you’re a remote owner, you need to pay me via PayPal before the draft. Just make sure to add $9 (for a total of $309), as PayPal charges me a 3% transaction fee. I will provide you with my email address for the PayPal transaction once we talk and I approve your entry into the league. Additional fees are levied as follows: $1 for every waiver move (Dropping/Adding a player) $2 for every player traded (trades subject to commissioner approval) (These additional fees average around $20 per year per team...) Pay-outs are as follows (assuming a 10-team league): $1200 First Place (regular season - highest total points after Week 17 is done) $450 Second Place (regular season – 2nd highest total points) $150 Third Place (regular season – 3rd highest total points) $30 Forth Place (regular season – 4th highest total points) In addition, to keep the playoffs interesting, there is a small pool for highest points after the real Super Bowl. All playoff points are tallied and the winner gets $200, with 2nd place getting $50. So draft accordingly. Any player you have on your team that gets to the actual play-offs is eligible to be played at that time. Again, these pay-outs are: $200 First Place (the real playoffs - highest total points after the Super Bowl) $50 Second Place (the real playoffs - 2nd highest points after the Super Bowl) Weekly Pay-outs are as follows: $40 High Score for the week $10 Second Highest Score for the week This gives us $2,930 in payouts. Add in $70 for the cost of MyFantasyLeague.com and we’re square at $3,000 total. For the approximately $150-200 that is normally generated in transaction fees, I will be awarding this small pool of cash as follows: 50% to the owner with the highest weekly score during the regular season 10% for the biggest monster week from a quarterback 10% for the biggest monster week from a running back 10% for the biggest monster week from a receiver 10% for the biggest monster week from a kicker 10% for the biggest monster week from a defense 4) BASIC RULES Again, this is a points-only league (no head-to-head). If you choose wisely, and your guys score the most points for that week and over the course of the season, you will win money. If not, you just suck. Each week, you play the following: 1 Quarterback 2 Running Backs 2 Wide Receivers 1 WR/TE flex 1 Kicker 1 Defense Note: you may elect to play nobody at a position for that week if you so choose. Sometimes folks due this with shitty defensive match-ups - see scoring below... Scoring is pretty standard (except for the Tight Ends - see below): 4 points for passing TDs 1 point for every 25 yards passing -2 for every interception thrown 6 points for rushing TDs 1 point for every 10 yards rushing 6 points for receiving TDs 1 point for every 10 yards receiving (1 for every 7 for TEs) 2 points for 2-point conversions 1 point for extra points 3 points for field goals less than 49 yds 6 points for field goals from 50-59 yds 12 points for field goals of 60 yards or more Defenses get 6 points for defensive TDs (of any sort), 2 points for safeties, 1 point for each fumble recovery, 1 point per sack, and up to 10 points for shut-outs (scaling down to zero once 10 offensive points have been scored against said Defense). And yes, extra points count as offensive points against your Defense. Quit whining ya bitches... Also, if your Defense gives up more than 30 offensive points, they will start to lose points (so negative 1 for 31 points against and negative 13 for 43 points against - you get the picture). No points per reception, rushing attempt or passing attempt - that's their jobs... Trades are allowed and encouraged - subject to commissioner approval. If you end up with more than 15 players, you'll have to drop a scrub or two to get back to the 15-man roster size. The same thing applies if you find yourself under 15 players after a trade - simply grab someone off the waiver wire. You must maintain a 15-man roster. ADD/DROP Rules: After Waivers are processed at 11 pm CST (Midnight EST) every Tuesday evening until kick-off, you may Add/Drop any player you want from your roster. It's First-Come-First-Serve after waivers. Also, remember that all rosters are locked for the remainder of the year upon kick-off of the first Thanksgiving Day game except for a single ADD/DROP per owner (for any reason). This prevents owners from stocking up on playoff-bound guys obviously. Waiver Rules: We will continue to use the Waiver Wire feature on the MyFantasyLeague site - simply submit whom you want to drop and pick-up for each round of waivers, and it’s processed automatically depending on where you fall in the waiver order. Order on the Waiver Wire is last place owner (using overall points) gets first shot at claims. If you win that player he’ll be added to your roster. If you want 2 players, decide who you want the most and put that player as your selection for the first round of waivers. Put the other player you want at the top of your claims in the 2nd round – if he’s still available, you’ll get him too. It’s pretty simple and I’ll walk anyone that doesn’t understand it through the process. If you don't use the Waiver Wire feature and somebody else does - and you both want the same player - then the owner that followed the rules and used the Waiver Wire will get the player (despite where the owners fall in their waiver wire order). So the lesson here is - USE THE WAIVER WIRE FEATURE!!! So easy...

    TURNER OR FRED JACKSON?

Turner is going to shred Carolina - it's a no brainer. Turner + Gore

    Need some WR Help!

Starting Randy Moss and Anthony Gonzalez, but need help on my 3rd spot. It's WR/TE flex spot, and I get 1 pt for every 7 yards receiving for Tight Ends. So, I'm looking at: Chris Chambers away vs Oakland Antonio Bryant at home vs Dallas Dominic Hixon at home vs Washington Greg Olsen away vs Green Bay Leaning Chris Chambers or Antonio Bryant, but it's a friggin' toss-up. Any thoughts??? Stuart McCowan (Highlanders)

This is a points-only league (no head-to-head), meaning whomever has the most points at the end of Week 17 wins. No getting lucky on head-to-head match-ups – the best team statistically over the course of the year takes the grand prize. Pay-outs are as follows (assuming a 12-team league): $1800 First Place (regular season - highest total points after Week 17 is done) $450 Second Place (regular season - 2nd highest total points) $150 Third Place (regular season - 3rd highest total points) In addition, to keep the playoffs interesting, there is a small pool for highest points after the real Super Bowl. Draft generally goes from around 7:30 pm CST to 10 pm CST (depending on how long Darryl takes...). Draft ends after 15 rounds. Add/Drop Rules: After 11 pm CST (Midnight EST), you may Add/Drop any player you want from your roster. Keep in mind, if you Add a player that was claimed by another owner via the Waiver Wire, I may reverse the move... Waiver Rules: We will continue to use the Waiver wire feature on the Fanball site - simply submit whom you want to drop and pick-up and I will process these claims after Tuesday night at 11 CST, Midnight EST. Order on the Waiver Wire is last place owner gets first shot at any contested player. Then they drop to the bottom of the list for the week to be cycled back up. The waiver wire order is reset every week after the Monday night game. Again - the only time I break out the order is if a player is contested (more than one person wants). This is the way we've always done it and I'm going to keep it that way. If you don't use the Waiver wire feature and somebody else does - and you both want the same player - then the owner that followed the rules and used the Waiver Wire will get the player (despite where the owners fall in their waiver wire order). So the lesson here is - USE THE WAIVER WIRE FEATURE IN FANBALL!!! So easy... Once a player is dropped, they're put on hold for 24-hours so everyone has a chance to see the player is available. Again, if you want to Add the player that was dropped, you can submit a Claim for him using the Fanball site. If there's more than one owner that wants the player, I'll whip out the waiver wire order for the week. Again - use this feature in Fanball.

    Established league needs more owners!

bump - still have a couple spots left...
  8. Established (15+ years) league in West-Northwest suburbs of Chicago needs 3 to 5 more owners to join the 5 original members. Draft is scheduled for Tuesday night, but remote owners are welcome - in addition to the live draft party we'll have a conference call line set-up for remote callers. Of course, if you live in the Chicago area, you're free to join us in person! NOTE: This is not a keeper league - we redraft every year so everyone gets a fresh start (keeper leagues are for suckers...). This is also a points-only league: there's a prize for 1st/2nd/3rd for the regular season AND a small pot for the real playoffs as well (keeps it interesting all the way to the Super Bowl). That is why we play this game right...? Buy-in is $300 and all money is paid out to the winners (except for $40 some odd dollars to buy beer and pizza for the draft party every year...). For consideration, post here with your contact info, or contact me (Stuart McCowan) at either my email address (stuart_mccowan@sbcglobal.net) or my cell phone (847-533-7147) and I'll fill you in on the details of the league. We've been using Fanball Commissioner for the week-to-week management of the league and it's worked well. Time is running short, so let me know asap - we're shooting for an 8 or 10 man league. Thanks! Stuart
