:shocking: Patriots will receive LA's first round pick (No.23 overall) and a 6th round pick. The Rams will also get a 4th round pick from New England.

I had a feeling they would trade Cooks, I predicted they would trade him and sign Jordy so I was half right.

So, just to recap, the Patriots acquired Cooks in 2017 for the 32nd overall pick. Got a year of production, then traded Cooks to the Rams for the 23rd overall pick in 2018.

The Pats also sent the Saints a 3rd round pick and got back a 4th. Considering NE doesn't have to pay Cooks who will be in the last year of his deal this year, this seems like a good deal for New England.

A 1st round draft pick has been used to aquire Brandin Cooks 3 times and he's only 24 years old.  Nice get for the Rams.

Cooks is a terrific WR, but I dont think this will be good for his FF value.

True the Saints were offered better by the Titans IIRC, but they still got what they wanted, Ryan Ramczyk.

Certainly not if they line him up on the left side every play like with Watkins.

The Rams are making a lot of big moves. Could this mess with their mojo? They were a good team last year. Hope their coaching and team maturity is able to keep up with all of this.

must mean Edelman and Hogan are 100% or close to it

Also the Pats keep on winning

Traded no 32, got back no 23, paid 800k for a year of service and Rams on the hook for the big money

Giants want 2 1's for ODB

what about 23,31, and 1st in 2019?

Very interesting development concerning ff.

Woods Kupp and now Cooks.

Tough too pick any of them higher then a Wr3.

Atleast Cooks is a upgrade over Watkins.

I think it's another very good move for the Hoody and Company.

Got to give Belichick his credit.  Gets Cooks for a 32, uses him for a year, trades for a 23.

Picks leaving the Patriots... #32 & #103 to the Saints and # 136 to the Rams.  Draft value (points by trade chart), 715.5 points

Picks coming to the Patriots... #23 & #198 from the Rams and #118 from the Saints.  Draft value (points by trade chart), 829.8 points

The difference, in draft value is a net of 114.3 points.  So, for a 1-year rental for Cooks, the Patriots gained the equivalent of #96 pick in this years draft.

so what dose the rams WR chart look like now, for me Cooks is WR1 ,was NE highest targets last year , over 1,000 think it was 7 TDs?

and tbh I don't know who to consider 2 and 3

it also means after this year cooks contract is up and will want paid he is more productive and his numbers are far better than Watkins and he just got paid so the rams can short change him.

I feel the rams need to win this year coz for the next 2 years they have contracts coming up so the team will change and big names leave

2018 Team

QB - Brees

RB - Fournette, Kamara, Conner, Yeldon, A.Jones

WR - Hilton, Lockett, Baldwin, Funchess, M. Williams, Robinson

TE  - Kelce

K    - Lutz

D    - Vikings

Watkins is no longer with the Rams, he went to KC.

It's Cooks, Woods, Kupp.

Don't see any of them worthy more then a wr3.

I think Cooks has value, not sure if

1) He will be uderdrafted to last year underperformance

2) He will be overdrafted because of this trade

Agreed.  It'll be interesting to see.

Based on the kind of coach and QB the Rams have and how Cooks performed in New Orleans (not so much New England), I'd see Cooks as a low end WR1/high end WR2... the 10 to 15 range.  So, where do you take the 10th to 15th best WR?  Second round?  Third Round?

To try to piece together what the Rams WR 2018 Stats would look like I think it helps to look at the Redskins stats from 14-16 as Cooks skillset would compare to what DeSean Jackson did in that offense.  Jackson's 2015 season was injury shortened but in the other two season, the average would be about 56 receptions 1075 yards and 7 TD's and he wasn't far off that pace in 2015.

I would expect similar 2018 production from Woods and Kupp as their roles don't really change.  Kupp probably has more room for improvement given that he was a rookie last season, than does Woods.

The question is, will Gurley's receiving numbers (2nd in yards and targets, 1st in receptions) fall off if one of the TE's develops into a player more suited for the Jordan Reed role? Thus, I'd say the likely candidate to see vastly improved production would be Gerald Everett, assuming McVay would want to replicate the balance he had in Washington when the passing game rewards were shared by Reed, Garcon, Jackson, Crowder, and Chris Thompson.

Ultimately this would make Kupp the WR to target in PPR as he's likely to have 15-20 more receptions than Cooks and the TD's are likely to be equal.  Another interesting note is that Watkins, despite his lack of receptions lead the team with 8 TD's.  Cooks isn't going to replicate that TD / Reception rate.  He may get 7-8 for the year, but the only player I see able to win red zone jump balls is Everett.   He's currently the only bigger / physical player they have for red zone passing

The Pats also sent the Saints a 3rd round pick and got back a 4th. Considering NE doesn't have to pay Cooks who will be in the last year of his deal this year, this seems like a good deal for New England.

Pats also sent a 4th round pick to the Rams and the Rams sent a 6th to the pats.   so technically the Pats paid a bit more than a late 1st.  maybe the equivalent to the 25th or 28th overall pick when factoring in other draft picks.   then they sold him for a higher first, (23th overall) but then the other draft picks made this the equivalent to about the 28th pick overall.   I think this is a wash overall for the pats.   They got one year of production out of a WR.

Basically this was a cheap rental.

But two high powered offenses have given up on cooks in 2 years.   this is a bit concerning.    Cooks did okay in New England, but not as well as I would have expected.

the deal is ok for the rams, but I dont know if they really got a guy who is going to put them over the top.

I hope I'm wrong.  I have Goff in one of my keeper leagues.

either way, only time will tell.

3 keeper, 12 team league Standard scoring with QB getting -1 pt for an interception & fumbles 5 points for a defensive safety & 6 points for a defensive TD.

Start 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Kicker, one Def/Sp Tms

Excellent post, thank you.

And I agree.

I think Kupp in ppr is the best target.

Watkins did have 8 tds, but only had 38 rec.

I think it does hurt all three having them all on this team, Gurley is used a lot in the passing game I don't see that going away.

But the TE's and both of whom where rookies last season can even me used more often this next season.

Right now I can't list any of those three WRs better then a wr3.

Thanks for your post.

I agree on this. I wonder what's up with that. I think they should have kept the draft pick and taken the best oline or linebacker they could get in the first. Heck, they probably could have gotten Crabtree over the Ravens. That would have been a better scenario.

Cooks has been successful so I don't see any underlined reason for them too deal him.

Expect they wanted to reposition themselves in the draft.

Nothing more too see there.

Decker to the Pats would make a lot of since.
Godswillbedone Revelation 20:15. And who so ever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
All ways lead to God, everyone one will be judged and then sentence, but there is only one way to Heaven and thats though Jesus Christ Lord and Savior. God Bless

wee:  I've seen in I think a couple of articles, that "Hoodie" doesn't like paying big-$ for WRs.  And in this market, Cooks would be $15M to $17M annually on his second contract.  No way hoodie would pay that.  Plus, Gronk would want similar compensation!

decker to ne?

as long as Eli is in New york you have to consider this a possible destination.

Decker played well for Peyton, and I'm sure Peyton would tell Eli how to utilize him to his best potential.

From what I hear, Decker is a student of the game and good in the dressing room.   This might be something the Giants would do if the price was right.
