Clipped from our news blurb...

Anderson was reportedly told of his release prior to team meetings this morning. The Broncos have been shopping Anderson and even had a tentative agreement with the Dolphins earlier this off-season before Miami backed out of the deal. Anderson topped 1000 rushing yards for the first time in his career last season, finishing 17th in fantasy points among RBs (standard scoring), and 21st in FPts/G. The Broncos are left with Devontae Booker and De'Angelo Henderson atop their running back depth chart. Adding a rookie RB in the upcoming draft is certainly a possibility.

So are they going to make Booker "the guy", are they going to draft Barkley, or are they going to wait until round 2 or 3 to draft a RB?  If they plan on winning now, I think they take Barkley.

If they plan on winning now or later they should take Nelson IMO.

I don't see them taking a RB in the first couple of rounds but I could see them taking more than one past the 3rd

Could be.  I don't know enough about their OLine.  According to Football Outsiders, the Broncos ranked 9th in run blocking and 29th in pass blocking.  When you look at the QB's, Osweiler ranked 13th in time to throw and Siemian ranked 22nd.  To me, it looked more like a QB issue than an OLine issue.

Why would Barkley be there at 5?  Outside chance he is, real outside.

Who would take an RB that high? Seems like a wasted pick for all these teams with bad olines. I think best case scenario for Denver would be Nelson in the first and Geseki in the second. Of course thats my same scenario best case for Cleveland at 4 then the second round.

Not saying they should take him.  I'm wondering why he is acting like "I think they take Barkley"....as if he will be there for sure.  When in reality it is probably an outside chance.

Maybe he falls, I don't know, nothing I have read says he will.  Elliott went 4th and Barkley is a better prospect.

Always have too put the Patriots on the list.

Dolphins wanted him earlier so he might end up with them.

Also can see the Gmen of they aren't going to draft Barkley.

Eagles is another team with Blount gone

Bears could use a back up too Howard, Cohen isn't the answer for a true back rb.

And of the Seahawks, and that would be my number one vote for ff sake.

Jags could, use a back up for Fournette, who seems to get banged up a lot.

And of all places the Bengals, they lost J Hill so they could use someone behind Mixon no Gio.

One thing I will say for sure.... they will draft a RB in this years draft.

where they draft that RB will ultimately determine what they think of Booker.

If they think he can be an effective starter, they may draft someone in round 2 or 3.    If they dont, they may grab their future starter at 5 or trade down and take him later in round 1.

The O line has looked better than it did the year before, but still not good enough (in my opinion)  problem is... I dont think there are any O linemen they should be considering at 5.

if Chubb or Barkley drop to them they should think long and hard before passing on either of them.

I do think New york Giants will probably take one of them.

Denver may take a QB but it really depends who falls to them.

I drafred Booker for basically nothing in case Anderson went down last year. If Denver picks up Barkley I may just drop him as a keeper. Even if they get someone in the 2nd like Guise I may let him go as the rookie would probably be the first and second down back most likely.

I'm now just hoping they skip drafting RB until later because that could mean they think Booker can carry the load in his 3rd year. He was a player that wasn't very polished coming out of college.

I don't.  I think the most likely scenario is Barkley being there at #5.  I think the odds of favorite is the first 3 picks being QB's and the Browns taking Chubb at #4.  The next most likely scenario, I believe, is that the Browns trade down and the first 4 picks are QB's.  Barkley being there at #5 to me is expected, not an "outside chance".

Yep. There are 2 teams with questions around who they pick that matters in this scenario, Browns and Giants. There's a decent chance he falls to 5. I hope the Browns get Chubb. That would be a fun d-line to watch this year.

It doesn't matter who the better prospect is... it's all about need and impact.  The 3 best prospects in this draft are Chubb, Nelson, and Barkley (you can pick the order), yet no one is expecting them to go 1-2-3.  In fact, no one expects any of them to go in the top 3.  Could one go?  Sure, but the expectation is that none will and the odds of 2 going are slim to none.  Quarterbacks are more valuable, so they're going to go... and most likely, they're going to go 1-2-3.  So, with respect to Elliott, Barkley may or may not be a better prospect, but this years draft have different players available and different teams with different needs than in Elliott's draft.  If there were this many QB's in the 2016 draft, you don't think that San Fran, Jacksonville, and Chicago wouldn't try to jump into the top 5 to get a QB?  You don't think that Dallas would have taken a trade to drop to #6, 7, or 9... and still get Elliott?

The Bill may trade up to #4.  The Broncos may decide to take a QB at #5.  The Colts could be sitting there with Chubb, Barkley, AND Nelson and still take Nelson.  Barkley may be there for Tampa.  If the first 5 picks are QB's with Nelson going 6... if that happens, Tampa is going to take Chubb, which means Barkley drops to #8.  The Bears have Howard and Cohen.  They're not taking Barkley.  Now Barkley drops to #9 to the 49ers.  That is a real possibility... and it doesn't matter how good of a prospect Barkley is or if he is or isn't better than Elliott.

No one really knows how these teams rank this QB class.  It's possible that all 3 of the teams picking in the top 3 can get their #1 choice.  It's possible that at #4, the Bills may see their #1 choice and trade up.  It's possible that, against all odds, the Broncos' #1 choice of QB is still sitting there at #5.

Agreed.  I could see Barkley going at #2 or #4, but I think the odds favor that he doesn't.  I literally have no idea what those two are going to do.

I think with the Browns giving Hyde all that guaranteed money, plus having Duke, Barkley makes no sense.  The addition of Chubb being added to that DLine could literally put Cleveland into the playoffs this year.

I think people don't realize that Hyde is a pretty good back. And Duke is a catch machine. It would be mind-blowing to me if Cleveland drafts Barkley over a QB, Chubb, or Nelson. They are guaranteed 2 of the 3. I wouldn't even trade down if I were them.

Hell, the Browns could go get Soni Michel later if they really want to and he may be better than Barkley in the long run.

I think with the Browns giving Hyde all that guaranteed money, plus having Duke, Barkley makes no sense.  The addition of Chubb being added to that DLine could literally put Cleveland into the playoffs this year.

For this reason, I think that the Giants are the only team that potentially drafts Barkley ahead of Denver at 5.  Before they signed Hyde Cleveland knew they could have picked Barkley at #1 and still picked one of the top 3 QB's at 4.  Given that logic, that leaves them on 1 of 2 paths.

1 - They feel so strongly about 1 of the 3 QB's that they are willing to pass on a chance at drafting Barkley despite wanting to draft him if he falls to 4.

2 - They don't value the RB position enough to use one of the first 4 picks on him.

If it's the first scenario, they could go Barkley at 4 and waste the Hyde signing.  You don't pick an RB at 4 overall to run them in a timeshare.  However I think that it's more likely that they are set on one of the three QB's, okay with Hyde and Duke at RB, and they would prefer to use the pick on Chubb to bolster the defense.

As for the giants, I really don't know what they will do.  It makes sense for them to draft a QB with Manning being 37, assuming they like one of the top 2 long term.  It also makes sense for them to trade back and address the multiple needs they have (RB, OL, DL).  It could make sense to take Barkley but that may be shortsighted.  This years RB class is deeper than last years.  In order for them to take Barkley, you'd have to assume the Giants are only one piece away from being a playoff team in the next 2 years.  If they feel they are in a win now mode, then Barkley is likely the pick.  But with a new GM they may not feel the pressure to address near term problems.  I do think the Giants will hold on to that #2 pick until draft day, then see what their options are after Cleveland makes their pick.  They'll have 2-3 potential trading partners.  Denver (If they are set on a QB), Buffalo, and Zona could all potentially move up, with Zona and Buffalo more willing to do so.

Obviously if the Giants trade the pick to Zona or Buffalo, Barkley is going to be there at 5 and maybe even make it as far back as 7.  Indy is another team that has so many holes to fill they could trade back to a team that may want to get ahead of Tampa to get Barkley.

Yeah...... no. Bengals won't touch a skill position player until Rd.3 at best. First rd will be OL then I would guess LB or OL again depending on who is there.

the teams most likely not to draft a QB would be the Giants.

with Eli there, they may elect to go a different direction and both Chubb and Barkley fill huge needs on that team.

also, the Giants line is terrible.  Do you really want to throw a rookie in behind that line?

That is the main reason I dont think the Giants will draft a QB.

They need a run game and a run game is very helpful if you are gonna groom a young QB.

so If I were the GM I'd draft Barkley in round 1 and I'd draft someone for the O line in round 2 or trade up to get back into the bottom of round 1 to grab someone for the O line there.

this way with their new Tackle (Nate Solder) and a new guard selected late in round 1, you have basically rebuilt one side of the O line.

this is also a very good year for Centers, so if they need one, they can get one in round 3.  Even if he has to red shirt for a year, that line will be solid in the coming years and they will have a top RB.

If they wanna draft a QB to replace Eli, they can do it next year and let the kid sit a year (or a half year) and then the kid will be behind a fairly decent O line.

that being said, with the departure of JPP, Chubb may actually be the guy they Giants want to replace him with.  this is the second scenario for New York.

I do think it is possible that Cleveland does not draft a QB.   if they do draft Chubb at #1 II think the odds are better that the Giants take a QB.

in that scenario I think there is a good chance the Giants pass on Barkley I could see the Browns taking him at #4.

that Cleveland defense would be something to fear if they grab Chubb so it is a very tempting place to be if you are in Cleveland.

but I am reasonably sure that the Jets take a QB at 3.  This much I will bet on.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Browns don't draft a QB either.

Pending on what the outcome is of those 2 picks and what they do with their other picks... and Taylor, I wouldn't say it would be ridiculous.

So they havent had a real QB since they returned to the league in 1999. Have went 1-31 over last 2 years. Traded out of the 2 spot where Webtz was then picked. Had 1st pick last year and took Garrett.

Then you say having a pick at 1 and 4 in a strong QB class....and it WOULDNT BE RIDICULOUS if they passed on a QB yet again?

You have to be joking.

And I'm sure some or even a lot of Browns fans would agree.

This is a "deep" QB class, not a "strong" QB class. I actually expect 4 or more, of the top 6 to be busts.

Also, how do you know that the QB they take isn't a bust?  You don't.  Any QB they take may not be on the team after 3 years.  Heck, he may not even be in the NFL in 3 years.  The thing is, they traded for a QB who led his team to the playoffs.  They currently have a QB on their roster, who is only 28 years old, who could be their guy for the next 5 years.

Let's say they take Darnold (for example), at #1.  They play this season and win 10 game and make the playoffs.  What happens next year?  Do you tag Taylor and pay him $27M, or do you say "thanks, time for Darnold"?  Let's say they move on to Darnold the next season, you miss the playoffs.  Does Jackson get fired?  No, you give him another year.  "He had a rookie QB", will be the reason.  The following year, they win 5 games.  You fire Jackson now, right?  Right.  So now, you're young QB who's struggling has a new HC, a new OC, and a new system.  How many years do you give him, 1, 2, 3?  Let's say the new coach comes in and says, I can't win with him.  Then what?

It's a rabbit hole of monumental proportions.  It would have been so much easier if they had just extended Taylor, who is a proven NFL QB, drafted Chubb at #1, Fitzpatrick at #4, and developed a QB.

Taylor sucks I live close to Buffalo. If he is so decent why is thr Bills pass offense always one of the worst. They brought him in to be exactly what he is....a stop gap QB who is servicable.

This IS a strong class. Doesnt matter who you think will bust. The fact is 4 QBs probably go top 12. 5 in the 1st. That doesnt happen often.

The Browns have sucked forever just like the Bills because they dont ever have a QB.

You are delusional.

Taylor is a perfectly acceptable QB.  If I recall, didn't they almost blow their playoff chances because they benched him?  Not so sure that the current Bills management is very good at talent evaluation.  The Browns actually have more talent than the Bills.

According to Football outsiders, the Browns DLine ranked 2nd against the run and 17th against the pass, where as the Bills ranked 21st and 28th respectively.  So, Cleveland's DLine was better.  Offensively, the Browns OLine ranked 14th in run blocking and 22nd in pass blocking where as the Bills ranked 27th and 31st.  Hence, Cleveland's OLine is better.

I think we can all agree that Cleveland's WR's are better than Buffalo's.  I think we can all agree that while McCoy is better than any RB Cleveland has, the overall backfield in Buffalo is only marginally better.

Last year, Buffalo ranked 26th in defense, in respect to yards... the Browns ranked 14th.

The biggest difference between the two teams last year was significant.  It was Tyrod Taylor vs QB'd du crap in Cleveland.  With the talent Cleveland has, and what we knew from Buffalo last year, the Browns can be a 10-win team this coming season with Tyrod Taylor.  You can poo poo him all you want, but he's the reason the Bills have even been competitive the last few years and it's their talent evaluation and coaching why they haven't been better.

I agree Taylor is not the long term answer, and I agree that the Browns should draft a QB, but if they don't it wouldn't be a surprise.

Good post thank you.
