Kicking these off today with a look at the top RB in the draft. Doug's planning on about 15 of these between now and NFL Draft time. If you haven't checked these out in the past, Doug puts in a lot time dissecting every player and it shows. Enjoy!

hes going to have to hurry its only a month away

good job as always Doug

Thanks. :D

The pace will pick up. (Or, in the words of Antonio Brown, business should be boomin' soon.) My NCAA Tournament obligations have slowed me down the last few weeks. Ridley and Darnold should be ready by the end of the weekend.

I was so impressed by his pro day, I'm thinking about giving him the nickname Johnny Football. Do you think it will catch on?

just imagine the insanity if Manziel gets another job in the NFL before Kaepernick

the interwebs might explode

Even better. He signs with the 49ers.

What a stupid nickname. Sounds like the type given to a player who flames out in 2 years from too many Vegas trips and drugs.

How about Johnny U (or is that already taken?)

WR Calvin Ridley is posted.

Acquired the 1.3 pick in my rookie draft last summer. I'm struggling with whether I should go with Ridley or take advantage of the RB depth with either Guice or Michel.

Good thing the draft will/should make this choice easier. So glad I do these, even if they are a ton of work :D

RB's are do deep, there really is no difference to me between no 2 and no 13. However I don't think Ridley is a legit no 1 WR, hes only a 1st rounder this year, cause quite frankly there are no other WR's around. Its a weird draft year, I can see 13 legitimate RB's that can become starters (I am sure not all will), but not a single even projected no 1 WR type

your comparison's are good, Sanders/Lee type WR's. Not what I am looking for with a 1.3 type dynasty pick, also if you are in position to win next year is something to consider

something like Penny to the Lions would be better than say Guice to the Cardinals

Maybe it was the jersey, but Ridley reminded me of Cooper. Clearly better than everyone he was playing against, but I'm not sure he has any special ability that will allow him to be elite.

Penny meh. Big dude who can run ok but goes down at first contact. And I hear he is stupid as hell and will have a hard time picking up NFL offenses.

I agree with your premise here. At 1.3 I probably take a RB. But I think you are going a bit wild with 13 good RBs. It is a good class but 13 is a bit much.

I think he could really be a PPR machine in the right offense. He runs great routes and is fairly quick. If a team with a QB sticks him in thr slot he could catch a ton of balls. But his upside as a #1 catch balls yards and TDs is probably not super high.

My Penny profile will be the next one up. I read the same thing about his intelligence, but I obviously cannot include that in my evaluation of him since I don't get to talk to him or his coaches... outside of the fact he looks lost as a blocker.

Same was said of Frank Gore when he was a prospect. In fact he was in special ed classes and had a severe case of dyslexia.

Later in his career I vaguely remember multiple quotes from coaches about him being the smartest football player on the field.

I think its still mostly about "want to" at the RB position and working your tail off.............where there is a will there is a way.

You work around deficiencies if the "want to" is there.

Unfortunately there isn't a combine score that portends future work ethic.

I don't know its not easy to just go over 2k in college. Hes also a great return guy. He's a perfect combo guy imo, having watched all his games, you pair him with a 1B and its a stellar combo

Good point on the learning level. But I have also read he doesn't exactly have a good work ethic. More than once I have read that he has poor work ethic. I can maybe work with 1. But not both.

And I got mixed up on Penny and someone else, he doesn't go down on 1st contact. In fact he led in YPC after first contact at or behind the line of scrimmage. Not sure who I was thinking of there.

Yeah, he has value athletically. Not sure what round he goes. 2nd or 3rd is sort of too early to just expect a part time RB. He certainly has the skills. But when both poor IQ and work ethic gets thrown around, then I just don't want you on my team, well not at least if I have the opportunity to draft a guy similar in ability yet much more than him upstairs.

The fact he has real good return ability puts some value back into his stock.

He may be as good as Rashaad Salaam or Ron Dayne were in the pros.

Hey Doug, excellent job once again this year. I was just wondering if you were going to have time at the end of your writeups to give us a dynasty mock draft also. Nothing to deep, maybe 2 rounds?

Keep up the good work.

I plan on releasing updated dynasty rankings roughly a week after the draft. I may be able to do something like what you are suggesting the night after the draft is over.
