Mount Rushmore Of TV

Recommended Posts

But as far as actual television Pioneers go, You really can't beat Norman Lear. Maybe throw in Steven Bochco. Lucy Ball was impactful on both sides of the camera as well.

Maybe Mark Burnette - his name seems to be on every "reality" show.

Pretty open ended topic really - but whatever direction you go, I'm leaning towards the people that were "pioneers" or started it, or set the style/standard more than selecting people that improved upon or perfected something.

Interesting call on Shatner, who was able to generate two premier roles (Kirk and Hooker). .

DENNY KRANE YOU STUPID FOTHERMOCKER!

  • To TDRYAN and others who bring up Conkrite:

I'd say you'd want to go with Edward R Murrow instead.

Pretty sure Conkrite would say the same thing.

David Boreanaz should be on some list for this.

Dude has been on TV for like 25 years straight.

He has three different shows in syndication, one of which is still going strong with new episodes.

That's not very long, relatively speaking.

I mean, Angel had been around since the 18th century.

No Bob Barker?

Bob Barker reminds me of that scene in Fletch where Fletch is is in the chiefs office about to be arrested. Fletch looks at a picture of the Chief and Tommy Lasorda on the wall. Fletch: Hey, that's you and Tommy Lasorda! I hate Tommy Lasorda......(and punches the picture).

I hate Bob Barker. Spay a nuter this you fawking b!tch!!!

Chicks = Lucille O'Ball ~ Mary Tyler Moore ~ Carol Burnett ~ Jennifer Anniston

Late Night = Steve Allen ~ Johnny Carson ~ David Letterman ~ Jay Leno

Talk Show = Phil Donahue ~ ###### Cavett ~ Oprah Winfrey ~ Jerry Springer

Game Show = Alex Trebec ~ Art Linkletter ~ Bob Barker ( kutulu ) ~ Chuck Woolery

It's just Lucille Ball, no O. I'd put Julia Louis Dreyfus over Aniston. Veep is good too, Jen was one hit wonder, Julia was iconic.

Talk show with no maury? He's the man.

Game show what about that guy from running man who kissed chicks. Richard Dawson something?

Okay kids, time for the grown up in the room (he said condescendingly)

Late night - Jack Parr.

I know you've never heard of him. He started the Gawddamn thing. All the guys you mentioned - would name him too.

Game shows? Shouldn't even be a category.

But if it is? Bob Eubanks biotches!

Small bit of trivia: Lucy Ball (or apparently O'ball) ? If it weren't for her and Desilu? Star Trek would not have ever existed.

Wild huh?

And, nobody here throws out Steven J Cannell? Maybe he wasn't the purveyor of the BEST shows, but pretty much shaped a couple of decades worth of TV - and most of those actors went on to still be relevant in today's shows.

Still, you can't go Rushmore with all the actors/personalities. I still maintain that you have to go with the true pioneers who made that possible. - The people behind the camera.

It should be pioneers that most people know... sure, they have to be impactful, but if the majority of ordinary TV watchers don't know who they are? DQ'd.
