When I was a teenager on the highway to the beach and saw another car with surf-racks going the opposite direction, it was tradition for whichever car coming from the beach to give a thumbs or thumbs down regarding surfing conditions. I doubt kids still do that today.

Meh, I live out in the suburbs. There's 17 miles of two lane country road between here and the highway. We locals like to help each other out. We aren't pretentious dooshbags though.
