The Todd Gurley Category 5 Defcon 1 truly nightmare scenario

Recommended Posts

For those of us lucky enough to draft Todd Gurley, this is the week we'd love to have him at his very best. Unfortunately, this tsunami problem is developing that will shake the fantasy championship landscape with the magnatude of a 8.0 ritcher scale earthquake. Gurley is dealing with a knee inflamation. His status for Sunday's game is up in the air. The general feeling is that he will play, but be limited. However, one can't be sure until the Inactives are released 90 minutes prior to kickoff. The Rams are at the Arizona Cardinals, meaning they have a late game. For those of us with no roster moves, this is truly a swirling vortex of a tornato. There are 11 games between Saturday and the early Sunday games. Unless we have a RB on a team that plays a late game (or Monday), without definitive knowledge, those of us who have Gurley may have to make a leap of faith that he plays, and pray to Santa that he delivers us a early Christmas present.

I have Gurley and I'm in the championship game. So frustrating. I can plug in Tevin Coleman if needed... Honestly, If I was the Rams, I would not play him at all. They don't need him to beat the Cards. This is a dream matchup vs. the Cardinals too......... We will see what happens....

I'm sure that Rams want to secure at least the #2 seed, so winning this game is important. On the plus side, the Bears (who could catch the Rams for the #2 seed) play at the same time. If they had an early game or played on Saturday and lost, it might impact the Rams decision. As it stands now, I think he'll play, as the Rams won't want to take any chances about getting a bye.

He'll get a full share... the Rams need to win. They currently have the #2 seed, but they're only 1 game ahead of the Bears and the Bears own the tie-breaker. The Bears play at 4 pm also so it's not like the Rams will know the outcome of the Bears game before their own game starts. Add that to the fact that the Bears are playing the Niners, so a win should be assumed. The Rams need to win. They'll play Gurley and keep him involved until the game is wrapped up.

Do the Rams need him to beat the Cardinals though? I don't think they do. Why risk him this close to the playoffs when this is a game you should be able to win without him. With Suh, Donald and Brockers rushing towards Rosen all day, I can't imagine they think they "need" Gurley this weekend. The Rams get gashed by the run quite a bit, but the Cardinals offensive line shouldn't be a match for the Rams defensive front. At all. If I'm the head coach, I'm not putting my injured star into a game against the Cardinals unless he's truly needed. If he is truly needed, then maybe I'm rethinking how good my team really is..... It's the Cardinals.....

They don't need him most likely, but we saw what happened when Minnesota looked past Buffalo. Any team can beat any team. The Rams cannot afford to lose one more game. A bye is crucial.

McVay on Gurley: "It's going to predicated on what he says, what the doctors are saying. If theres a chance that hes going to do something thats going to set him back for when you get into the playoffs, different things like that, thats where we have to make smart decisions.

The rams definitely want that bye but ask yourself, what is more important? That first round bye or having your best player on offense healthy for playoffs?

Id choose the latter. They should be resting Gurley.

If they lose to the cardinals it wont be because they were missing Gurley. Cardinals are really bad.

As long as you have Kelly you should be fine.

Worst case scenario they put Gurley on a pitch count and that crushes the value of all of the RBs.

Even if he playes it won’t be his normal pitch count

Man I'd love to start John Kelly instead of Miller/Blue....but there aren't many backup plans for afternoon game running backs in case they drag this out with Gurley being active or not

With the signing of cj this backfield just became a huge question mark.

Were I the rams I'd sit Gurley and run cja all day. It's the cardinals.

This is a concern. However, one would think that they would like to see what they actually have in their drafted player, Kelly.

The fact he isn't practicing doesn't bother me. Dude is smart, knows practicing will just aggravate the knee. He did say if they had a Thursday game he may not have made it. The thing I like about Gurley is he's tough.

As for resting him for the playoffs... the absolute MUST here is getting a first round bye. Not just to rest Gurley's knee but the fact most teams that get those byes advance.

The Rams need this game, and would hardly take chances with an untested rookie RB if Gurley had any shot of going. He held up last week, has had a week of rest, I think it's a positive situation.

Like we have a choice anyway.

I don't think the Rams feel the same way. Every statement they have made is that they will proceed with caution.

What do you expect them to say though? Of course they are going to proceed with caution....wouldn't holding him out of practice all week fall under that umbrella?

I don't expect them to come out and say "hey ya we need this game...we will run our franchise back 30x intonthe ground if we have to"

Something along the lines of "it's just inflammation he should be fine for Sunday. No one is a 100% right now." If they weren't playing the worst team in the league, maybe they'd push him a bit. I expect him to play and get pulled after they establish a 2-3 possession lead in the first quarter. If you haven't watched the Cardinals this month, they are truly awful in every aspect of this sport.

Have you watched the Rams the last couple of times out? Lol

I hear u...but I think they are being cautious and warning u that if he doesnt feel good Sunday when he goes out for early warmups they will probably hold him out....I think they are being a bit up front about that....I think u have to cross your fingers and hope he feels fine and the game is somewhat close...at any point he could go and then feel discomfort too.....which is what I also think they are telling u....it sucks for us gurley guys in position to win...but it's gonna be a dice roll and I'm not even sure if I want to roll with him at this point....I also have chubb and mixon and can pull gurley for a Josh Reynolds or something
