What color is this dress

Recommended Posts

I saw it as white and gold on a FB post. There appeared to be absolutely no black and blue.

Looked at a couple different pics, different sites, and came back to the FB post...definitely see black and an unmistakable blue. In every pic of it now. Don't see anything close to the white and gold/tan I saw before. The black looks faded because the lighting is poor but still definitely black.

Ruled out a slowly changing image because my sister-in-law saw it one way while I was seeing it the other, and other people are saying similar about multiple people viewing it at once.

Another pic

I initially thought it was white and gold.

But if you block out the background and just look at some of the dress, you can make yourself see where it's black and blue, kinda.

I spent way more time on this then I would like to admit.

First two pics I saw of it were white and gold. The pic Naomi first posted is just as obviously black and blue.

It's white and gold and we white-golders are going to jihad the shiot out of you blue-blackers.

My daughter showed me it yesterday; looking at the same picture she saw black and blue. Driving this morning the Mad Dog sports morning show was talking about it the whole way. Apparently Today, GMA, and "news" outlets were as well.

Seriously, it is an interesting sociological experiment at how seriously some people are arguing about this. The scientific answer seems to involve the way different brains filter out ambient light to decide on a "true" color, based in part on the rods/cones mentioned earlier.

The science behind why people are seeing different colors. It is confirmed to be blue and black. Even when they bleach out the picture so the blue appears more white, it is still pretty obvious there is a blue tint to it. Not sure how you can say that dress is pure white.

Earlier when I glanced a yahoo thumbnail it was absolutely white/gold and it (I) fairly quickly 'adjusted' to the blue/black when I looked back. It's weird experiencing that because there's a sense something is happening with the pic but it's just your own processing. This is the depth of the blue/black most people are seeing for those of you who haven't seen anything but white/gold. A minority of people see a lighter (powder) blue with the gold apparently and still no black. Some people (especially in scrolling contexts) can switch between them at will. I can't do that although I haven't tried to much...already spent enough time on this.

The good: Works equally well as formal or business casual attire.

The bad: Carves a crooked path through perceptual reality and leaves behind it a wake of confusion and existential crises. Also unforgiving on the hips.

I don't get the joke.

It's black and blue.

Also the grass is green, sky is blue, and Peyton > Tom.

The issue is you are wrong. It's white and gold based on the pic everyone is talking about.

And if I hadn't actually seen other photos that prove me incorrect, I would fight you to the death on this.

Also, for what it's worth, buzzfeed (I think) did a poll with over 100,000 votes, and 75% of people said it was white and gold.

You're nuts. I didn't realize that 75% of America is color blind.

The corner of 5th and Main. 6:00pm. I'll be there.
