1. The girls are (generally) better skaters than the boys at younger ages

 

2. The girls still aren't as good at "hockey" as the boys despite the skating skill gap

 

3. Once kids get to squirts, parents are convinced their kid is getting a scholarship

 

4. Hockey parents are focking crazy.

 

5. The belief that scholarships/money will be there makes them even crazier

 

6. There's more scholarships/money available for girls than you can imagine

 

8. Therefore, the girls parents are some of the craziest.

My nephew got drafted into the OHL. A big strong roughouse kid, a defensive defenseman, named team co-captain. I thought things were looking good for him. It was about this time last year that he got his head scrambled with a serious concussion and he hasn't played since.

Hockey looks like it would be incredibly fun to play, especially if you got comfortable with it as a kid. I've never been to an NHL game (need to change that) but I had a blast just watching a friend play a spirited game of roller hockey.

 

It is one of the manlier looking sports. I definitely wouldn't join a coed roller hockey team.
