No way would I call it overrated. Dochenozzle. NOW I remember why I have you on ignore - but do not whay I chose "To Read it anyway" My Bad. Yes OVERPLAYED making it HIGHLY over rated. And seriously it's not THAT great of a tune, it's got a decent riff or 2, and a beautifully peaceful out tune, but both parts are unbelievable REPETITIOUS and obnoxious to hear more than a handful of times in a life. "Layla....you got me on my knees Layla" X 2000
Little Rusty 17 Posted August 21, 2012 Yeah the Eagles were terrible and Hotel California sucked so bad NOW I remember why I have you on ignore....... My Bad, Don Henley being an exception, but only because he can sing. You and all of us with common sense must have some idea of the degrees of quality in all of life. It's absolutely TRUE that some things are better than others, take for instance vocalists. Somebody like Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant or Steve Perry are vastly BETTER than a redneck drummer named Levon Helm ever was. (RIP) I'm sure he's a nice guy, good musician and all, but really NOT a good vocalist in the scheme of things. HTH

Hotel California is one of my 50 favorite songs of all time. And Phil Collins was a pretty good drummer/lead singer combo too.
Little Rusty 17 Posted August 21, 2012 Hotel California is one of my 50 favorite songs of all time. And Phil Collins was a pretty good drummer/lead singer combo too. I agree on both points, BUT if singing drummers were a good idea he would have stayed on his kit. I'm just saying for the most part, drummers that sing are usually almost always pretty average vocalists.

I would say it is not optimal for the drummer to be the singer, but obviously, it can be done, and done well.
