Murray not looking good?

Recommended Posts

Just read this concerning Demarco Murray :

http://www.tulsaworld.com/blogs/sports/fantasyworld/fantasy-world-my-preseason-predictions-starring-tyreek-hill-demarco-murray/article_619c00a8-1a87-5056-9185-8110898c7f8c.html

"Word out of camp is he's a shell of himself."

Can any Titan homers chime in on this? We all know Henry is his biggest threat, but does he not look good at all?

He was dealing with a hammy issue most of preseason.

Doubt you can gauge how a player is looking if he's got an injury and not out there.

You'll know in 5 days.

I agree. Saying he looks like a shell of himself just sounds like it's not injury related and he looks like garbage haha.

He looked stiff to me when I saw him in the third preseason game, but I attribute that to the thing you guys are talking about - I believe he only had a handful of practices (likely somewhat limited) before he played in that game.

Feeling even better about my 50% ownership of Henry in 2 of 4 leagues as a 5th RB with a lot of upside should the old man hit the wall.

Normally I would be concerned but the only league I have Murray in I have Henry on my bench so I should be safe.

I have him too lol but I'm hoping I didn't burn a second round pick on this guy regardless.

I have Murray and Henry in both leagues. They better announce his health situation before kickoff.

That article looks like some guy trying to justify his predictions more than anything

I wouldn't take that too seriously coming from a single, little known source

can we expect Henry to se a larger role this year? would a 60/40 split be unreasonable?

I can't see how they can give Murray another 350+ carries this season.

It needs to be 60/40 if Murray is going to make it through this season.

They rarely speak to health issues other than what's on the injury report.

They do not care if you have him in your fantasy football pool.

entering his 7th season, DM is right near that 1500 career carry mark, with another 250 or so catches... he's in that career workload range where even the greatest RBs break down.

I have no idea how Murray does or doesn't "look" but the odds are pretty good that he can't sustain high a high volume workload and while I think DM is a "good" NFL RB, I don't think he's in a category with the "greats"... point being, the wheels are coming off soon... very soon... it may not be this season... he may defy the odds... but it's not a risk I'd want to take and whenever possible, I stashed Henry

As I researched him he's been surprisingly durable. They also aren't going to re-sign him, so not only is he gonna bust his tail, they are gonna run him a ton. He's disposable to the Titans. Great situation.

This will be the last year I'll be willing to consider Murray as a potential top 15 or 20 pick, and I'm sure that is/will be the case for most folks. Murray has and probably always will be a volume back (looks better as he gets more touches), so I don't put too much into how he looked after a few days of practice against Chicago.

I'm not sure what preseason games some people were watching, but Henry hasn't exactly made a compelling case (33 carries for 89 yards). I think we all think Henry is still a stud, but he also didn't look great. The offensive line struggled in the preseason for both backs, so I'm going to basically stick to my pre-preseason opinions of both players. Mularkey has a solid history of relying heavily on his main back, and he has been unwavering in his commitment to Murray. My personal opinion: Henry sees roughly 40 percent of the carries, about 30 percent of the receptions out from the backfield and the majority of the work on the goal line when the situation allows it. I don't think Henry will necessarily be the GL back, but I think the Titans will use him in that role more often than not as a way to further preserve Murray.

Would like Henry more in a non ppr.

But in PPR Murray is still the one to own this season.

Folks, there is no preserving of Murray this year. He's getting cut after the season and they have a stud behind him if he breaks down.

This is probably the swan song for Murray. Enjoy it.

He's missed a lot of practice. I'm in Nashville and I know Henry has gotten a lot of hype from people watching practices. I'd say the o-line overall hasn't been good which is very concerning I avoided him in drafts, but as a Titans fan I hope I'm just being paranoid.

Well, he has had plenty of time to recover. I'd be surprised if he wasnt ready to go week 1.

his contract ends this year and they have a younger version of him waiting in the wings. Of course he's not gonna start for Tennessee next year.

but this year, I fully expect Tennessee to try to get their money's worth out of him.

Murray faded pretty badly last year after being a top-3 RB during the first half of the season. Only topped 100 total yards once in his last 6 games. I still cautiously like him to get his 15-20 touches every week in what I expect to be a strong offense in Tennessee, but I would not want him as my RB1 without the Henry handcuff (and I paid handsomely to get that handcuff in my auction league).

He had a toe injury and I don't think that got near enough pub.

I've got a bad feeling about Murray. I have him in both of my leagues -- one is a deep keeper where it would have been dumb not to keep him, and the other was IBL where I got him at 3.03 (12-person draft) and felt I couldn't pass on the value.

I hope Doug is right and Mularkey rides Murray as his bell cow. But I won't be surprised if he performs more like a flex. :dunno:

At some point the Derrick Henry era has to begin, right?

yes. I predict next year.

but if the team has a bad year and gets eliminated from playoff contention early, I could see them giving him an early audition as the starter.

I think if the Titans are preserving anyone it is Henry. Keeping him fresh for later in the season makes sense to me.

Murray's wheels are not falling off yet, but the lugnuts are loosening.

Yes, but already gimpy and limited this year and entering his age 29 season, which is right at the dreaded "Running Back Wall"...

I hope it's just one of these veteran "I don't want to work in August" ailments that magically clears up on opening day.

But, again, I feel it's almost mandatory to handcuff Henry if you're heavily invested in Murray.

Is this based on stats because Henry passed the eye test for me in the preseason catching the ball out of the backfield. Sure Murray may be more proven, but Henry isn't LeGarratte Blount.

As has been said before, I'd like to see where this "word" is coming from.

He also says this:

Derrick Henry: Don’t need him until later, when he has a good chance to take that job from the starter.

- It's not that wild an idea to suggest that Murray might wear down or surrender carries to Henry at some point "later". I'm thinking a lot of people are thinking this.

Just grabbed Henry as my 4th in a draft last night. Don't have Murray. Don't care. Pretty happy with the pick.

I did that last year. It's a good move.

This year I got em all.
