Josh Norman a Free Agent

Not having that front 7 will make things more difficult for him, but I still think he does better than ok in WAS. It was a good move for both sides.

Wow talk about over paying that's unbelievable.

With that said the Redskins now become the team to beat in the NFC east .

It will be backloaded. He'll get a huge bonus. Likely only plays four of the years. I'm happy with it.

The only way he plays four years with the Skins is if they cut him by probably year three and he comes back at a discount. Sportrac doesn't have the deal up on their website yet, I want to see what the signing bonus is... I'm guessing $20 mill prorated over five years, with a low year one salary say $1 mill ($5 mill cap hit). Then $13.5 mill per for the next four years with a 17.5 cap hit, the first two years guaranteed. They'll be running from this deal by year 3. The Daniel rides again!

Roto just reported it's essentially a two year guarantee deal then we can cut him at no cost. I like it.

Well, you'll have dead money I'm sure, depending on what the signing bonus was. But that will pale in comparison to his cap hit. There will be a cost, as all signing bonuses are prorated for the life of the deal. My guess is probably $4 mill per year dead money on the back end. I like the signing for the Skins though, I really do. He'll lock up Dez, OBJ, and Garbage Trashthews just fine. Nice weapon to have, albeit an expensive one.

IMO......NOT!

Watching on a TV screen, I'll certainly admit you just can't get a full appreciation for all that's happening, but I have become pretty adept at keeping my eye on the particular match ups I'm interested in seeing to the extent the camera will allow. I'm usually not just following the ball anyway.

Here is a pretty good article on Norman from Football Outsiders and they saw it the same way I did.

The article goes pretty in depth on Norman's season, usage in Carolina, value to the Pathers etc, and is well worth a read. Specifically on the Beckham - Norman matchup they charted Beckham beating Norman ".......9 out of 10 times in direct coverage. It was one of, if not the most lopsided matchup since this analysis method was created."

Beckham's stat line was 6/76/1, but 40 yds came on 1 catch & run against I believe an LB, so that's 5/35/1 with the TD coming in the final 2 min. Not too shabby. Beckham got him pretty good on the TD catch, though.

Early in the game Beckham roasted him, if I am remembering right he had 2-3 steps on him and a walk into the end zone but flat dropped it. Later in the game he had a step+ but Eli missed him badly. The pass rush probably played a part in the Eli miss too.

Though if the refs would have done their job and thrown Beckham out of the game, the stat line would have been even worse.

If they were doing their jobs properly both of them would have been tossed. I don't blame ODB fom defending himself though. Norman led the game off by body slamming him and nothing was done.

Agreed, but also IMO both coaches should have had those guys on the bench when it hit 2 levels beyond chippy. That's the way it would have gone in the old days, give them a chance to get their head straight and realize they are hurting their teams if they don't get self control. I guess Rivera could have been thinking both gone would be a net positive for the Panthers but who knows.

Considering Beckham went 96/1450/13 on the season yeah, I'd stand by my take. Although my highlight of the year is OBJ high stepping over Norman in the end zone after he caught his TD. I'd take 6/76/1 anyday. My main point is that the hijinx took Beckham out of his game ie. locked him up. Just my opinion, it's hardly ridiculous.

Did you watch the game? He was far from locked up. He should have had a much better day statistically speaking, and this is coming from someone who believes Norman is a shut down type of guy.

They both should have been tossed. Not only was Norman just as much to blame, but that entire Carolina team was trying to intimidate him every play. No one on the Giants stood up for him which is chicken shlt, even if they think Beckham is a little too full of himself. The protrayal of Beckham having a majority of the blame is monkey piss

Holy focking shite just saw Norman's deal on Sportrac. His second year cap hit is $20 million, with a dead cap number of $28 mill. Oh my if he flops next year they are hosed.

They won't have Cap issues. It's why they could do the deal. They have the cap room. Getting DJax was a gift. Getting Norman was a gift.

$50m guaranteed, 5 year deals always have cap implications - however you dress it up... Not only is this (arguably) a ridiculously overpaid player, but this now, does in fact, have the Skins in a bit of a cap straightjacket... Obviously they can rework and restructure existing deals - but as of now, they are projected to be over cap once all rookie draft picks are added and signed.

Nope. Andre Roberts is getting cut and rightfully so. A few other guys who were disappointing are getting cut as well. The cap space is not the issue. It's getting results from the players. The Redskins were in a position to make a move because they've been conservative cap wise for several years. You can't make this move unless you've been smart and have room to take advantage of these crazy opportunities. This isn't the Albert Haynesworth team with awful GM decisions. MCloughan has been really good so far. The Skins will have no cap issues moving forward. Trust me.

Starting in 2017 - you will have a 30 year old corner, whose 1st (and only) Pro Bowl came just last year, on the books for consecutive cap hit years of $20m, $17m, $14.5 and $15.5m.. Call it what you want - that's a gigantic financial commitment to an aged, non track record proven guy. The numbers look pretty and dandy today - we'll see how good they look if/when you realize you've purchased top sirloin at filet mignon price.

The Cap for 2016 is going to increase 7-10 million. It goes up in 2017 as well. This team is building primarily through the draft now. It's a painless move to sign Norman. But go ahead and keep saying it's going to be a big problem. I'm happy for you.

If you want to talk overpaid then I'm happy to talk about Ryan Kerrigan. That was a joke. He's just not worth it. When they cut his ass in a couple years the cap room will be plentiful.

Might want to put the Kerrigan comments in the vault. Have a feeling you can reuse them on Norman later.... And $50m guaranteed contracts are always risky, and often very painful. In fact, most gigantic FA signings for players at (or near) 30 never work.... Don't get me wrong, I'm prolly happier than you that you signed Nnamdi Asomugha - ecstatic in fact.

Kerrigan was drafted though. He's no acquisition. He's just not that great imo. I guarantee we regret it. I also believe in paying guys that play QB or corner or WR because it's not as injury prone. Which makes me also believe we shouldn't resign Jordan Reed.

We got a huge break with Carr this past week. At the time he signed, he was the highest paid CB in the league. I love the guy, but what a joke - he's average at best... Even at $26m guaranteed his deal had crippled us in many ways - glad to see him take a pay cut to stay.

Norman's a terrific corner, but in Carolina he tended to play the opposition's best receiver while that player was on the outside. I didn't see too many instances when he followed someone from the slot. And that tended to be when Julio Jones and Brandin Cooks would hurt the Panthers for big gains.

Hard to see paying a 30-year old CB $20 million in 2017, especially when Cousins will need a new contract. Great signing though.

The bulk of the cap hit in the Norman deal is next yr, something like $20M, when the skins are projected to have $58M in cap space. The cap hit for this yr is around $5M.

Andre Roberts cut this morning. But what do I know.

Cap issues non existent.

I wouldn't have paid Reed though. That was a huge mistake. Cannot count on him. I'd have released or traded him and let someone else pay for him to miss games with leg injuries.

So Washington paid $75m ($50m guaranteed) for a Zone cover guy?

Arguably the best wr in the game is on the field (A. Brown) and your all world corner does his trash talking from the other side of the ball bcoz he's not shadowing Brown? That's good football sense there.

BTW - Brown went for: 8, 126 and 2 tds....
