Crystal Ball - Waiver Wire Gem 2016

Recommended Posts

I think after week 1 or 2 last year Devonta Freeman was the ww pick up gem of the year once Tevin Coleman went down.

Who gets it this year? My guess....

Alfred Morris

DeAndre Washington

DeVontae Booker

It will be someone that no one would currently think it will be.

That's how it works.

Yup, pretty much.

I have the #1 ww so I'll probably wait for that first injury or benching of the year and go from there.

Dion Lewis was also a WW gem last year so I'll go back to New England for my pick and say DJ Foster.

He's a complete unknown, 1% owned right now. I think he replaces James White and becomes the new Dion Lewis for the Pats.

Other RB's to consider: Rob Kelley, ALF Morris, rookie backs like Deandre Washington, Kenneth Dixon and Devontae Booker.

At WR I could see Josh Doctson or Breshad Perriman. Some unowned WR from the Niners like Kerley or Patton also possible.

TE: Clive Walford

DeAndre Washington

already drafted in some deeper leagues, but yeah - he's the guy to watch if he's available.

I agree Morris makes sense for someone to own. Surprised he's not handcuffed in my league.

I have #1 too. But Im not cruelly hoping for an injury to a big name. Much.

I totally agree and would never wish that upon any player but unfortunately, injuries do happen. I just need to be wise about my first pick up.

Was Devonta Freeman really a waiver pickup last year? I think he was drafted in all my leagues. #1 backup who took over thanks to injury, no doubt.

Kenjon Barner is a way off the radar player who could be big. Ryan Mathews isn't exactly an ironman, and Barner blew past rookie Wendell Smallwood in preseason.

I know in non PPR leagues, Coleman was drafted ahead of him. I actually drafted Freeman really late in my PPR league, unfortunately I didn't in standard.

Kenjon Barner, nice sleeper!

DJ foster in non ppr an option?

I like Barner. I have him in a few spots.

On rb no one has said a peep about is Benny Cunningham. If Gurley goes down Cunningham is a top 10 back imo. I have him stashed without Gurley in a few spots. I really hope nothing happens to Gurley even though he isn't on any of my teams, but I am prepared in case it does happen

I think Sepphoris started the hype with him, but its a good thought.

He got a lot of 1st team reps with Brady and hauled in a ton of passes.

Fumbled but didn't appear to be in Belichick's dog house over it.

Worth keeping an eye on this guy.

He's one pulled hammy or bruised Labia from being the starter. Drafted him in ALL my leagues.

Even with a stacked box, Gurley has the talent to beat it. The question is can Cunningham do the same. The Rams passing offense has to be close to the bottom with Minnesota and Tennessee

I think Cunningham has enough talent to be top 10. He is a good receiver too which helps. I watched a decent amount of Cunningham this preseason and he looked very good as the starter. Not on the same level as Gurley, but a good back all around.

he was a waiver wire pickup in at least 2 of my leagues last year. in one case he was drafted, but dropped when Coleman looked like he would be the starter. then picked back up again when Coleman got hurt

I'm big on Kenneth Dixon in BAL, their backfield is such a mess and he's good enough to snatch the role and not give much opportunity to share.

I'll throw one more out there...Cameron Artis-Payne. JStew rarely ever makes a complete season (and I say that as a big JStew fan) but CAP could easily put up some good numbers in that offense that has Cam, Benjamin, Funchess, Ginn and Olsen.

While nobody can say with any certainty right now, my guess is when Gurley goes down........... it will be a split between Malcolm Brown and Cunningham with Bennie picking up only a few more carries than he would within Gurley healthy. I am not carrying either RB for that reason though its very much my kind of situation to target, I looked at it hard. I did grab Brown for my taxi in several leagues during the pre-season but decided in most leagues there are just better upside situations because I firmly believe it will be a split. If you are correct that IF Cunningham gets most of the carries plus his locked in 3rd down work he will be a nice piece though.

Might not have been big news but he hasn't been around for awhile

Edit: Plus Brown is a really talented runner, pretty sure he would have passed Tre on early downs regardless

I watched Malcolm Brown first hand in high school and in college. I can say he was extremely misused at UT. The kid is an absolute beast. If Gurley were to go down he is more than capable of stepping in.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a sleeper run on CAP. Firstly, Stewart is 29 going into his ninth year in the league, in a career that's only seen him top 200 carries twice. With a health history like that, a RB can fall off a cliff in a hurry.

Artis-Payne I believe led the SEC in rushing one year at Auburn. He's got nice size, but even better has 4.40ish speed. I can't see Tolbert and Whitaker getting most of the work if Stew goes down. CAP finished last season strong and Cam has praised his work in protection.

Not sold on Zeke. I think Morris could be on this list.

I drafted Morris last night towards the end. Stating to get this feeling Zeke maybe a little immature. He's making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

could be dead wrong here....but ill go with a name a couple have mentioned

and i play in a 10 team and 12 team ppr high stakes leagues....he wasnt drafted in either....but was picked up after the draft in a waiver move....by me of course...so ill tout him

breshad perriman...i could be dead wrong and he could end up never being a serious factor all year...especially with smith, wallace and aiken still around

at the same time...i think its ridiculous that a 6-3, potential beast, former 1st rounder is hanging around....and going mostly undrafted....but guys are investing picks in white and parker(parker i get since he actually saw action last year and had some success)......i could see perriman becoming a factor in a month....and maybe by mid season becoming a startable guy who be a missing piece or injury replacement for some teams

This is a guy I've been debating in my head for the past few weeks. Everyone talks about how huge Mike Wallace will be for Flacco as the deep threat, but it's Perriman who is the better option that is younger, bigger and faster. I watched his snaps in the preseason game vs the Saints and he leaps off the screen and passes the eye test. Right now the situation is just like their backfield, very muddled, with SSS, Aiken, Wallace and Perriman but the latter has just a good of a chance as the others to be the break out #1 option. Good call and great username, Weasel!

Not to mention Flacco loves to throw jump balls and that's something perriman should be a prime target for and excel at...and ya ...he should have a better chance than any of the others to break out ...he's a guy they've invested in hoping to become a cornerstone

I'm glad u saw him against the Saints and could vouch for him...didn't get to see it and only read about it

And always glad when someone knows and appreciates 80s/early 90s wrestling!
