mmmmm...beer

Speaking of cell phones... just switched.. $162 cheaper a month.

Recommended Posts

So I've been with Verizon for quite a while. We had 4 lines, Unlimited Text & Data, and the wife and I were paying on two Galaxy S8+ phones. All together with taxes etc.. $248 per month.

So... looked at Sprint and actually had initially signed up with them right before lunch yesterday. I got some hubba jab on the phone about a few things but knew I had 72 hours to ignore or cancel the agreement they emailed me. After lunch saw T-Mobile store and decided to stop in. Talked to them about sprint.. they asked if Sprint told me about their promotional time period on their deals right now. Nope.. got the jibba jab.. also Sprint was shady on my phones payoff. Also with Sprint I would have had to buy new phones.. and they couldn't guaranty my current phone would trade for what we owed left.

So.. smoking deal at T-Mobile.. all plans are quoted with taxes.

1st off they're paying off both our phones S8+ balances $385 each so totalling $770.

T-Mobile One Military plan is getting me Unlimited text and data on all 4 lines. We can use these paid off Galaxy S8+ phones. For $100 a month. The wife and I upsold on the One+ which gives us free texting in gogo flights and 1 hour data on gogo flights, as well as unlimited HD Streaming. So... total $120 a month and that's tax included!

But wait there's more!! Right now we also get bundled a free Netflix account... so that's another $14 a month as we can stop paying Netflix out of pocket.

So.. because we upgraded to the One+ we're at $120/m - $14 Netflix = $106 with paid off phones.

If we didn't do the upgrade One+ we'd have e been $100 - $14 Netflix = $86 a month for 4 lines unlimited data, voice, and text.

Verizon $248 a month vs. T-Mobile $86 a month for the exact same service.

Any Vets check it out.... I also think they have some smoking deals for non-vets too.

I called to talk to Verizon this morning to cancel.. they of course sent me to retention with the nicest girl in history.. but when I told her I switched to T-Mobile last night she said awww yeah.. well we're going to try hopefully to do something about our pricing soon, but I can't even argue with you. That's a huge difference and cancelled it with no questions asked.

$248 Verizon - $86 T-Mobile = -$162 savings a month! :shocking:

Also they have a Buy One Get one Free deal going on right now on Galaxy S9+'s... but although that's a smoking deal.. it would be $30 more a month... we'd get new phones.. but meh.. these 8+'s still work well. Although...

If we did do that... we could trade these S8+'s in... get about $700 total... which is the cost of one of those Galaxy S9+'s.. so really it would be two free S9's if we use the S8's as trade.

Can't bundle them together.. but we could go in today.. a day later and do it.

Do you trust T Mobiles service? I'm always nervous to switch out of ATT to a lesser competitor due to service concerns.

I had T-Mobile before... I had zero problems with them. Just got a better deal on Verizon awhile back.

Customer service wise they were much easier to deal with than Verizon.

Only problem is around where Im T mobile and Sprint have sh1t for coverage. Verizon has a lot better coverage so kinda have to go with them. Major cities have good sprint and t mobile coverage though

Yeah it depends.. if you look at the maps ATT and Tmobile are pretty similar... sprint is worse.. Verizon is by far the best, but we live semi urban and all the interstates are covered just fine.

Yea around here theres a lot of country so not good service in those areas. At home I have WiFi but if Im on the road then I need the coverage. Still, our plan isnt too bad. My parents were grandfathered in their plan cause theyve had them for so long and everything is unlimited for cheap

Been with Sprint for a long time with a great deal on unlimited.

Am shopping for new service though...Sprint has been a pain in the ass since we added my son. First the cost of adding him in the first place Onwas told one thing and charged another...took several months to get it finally worked out after several phone calls and promises. Then when we uograded his phone the same crap. Told one thing...billed another and had to call several months in a row to get them to fix it and refund the difference.

Fock that...Im done with their .

Looking at ATT since Im a Direct customer and have them for internet too.

Ive been with Verizon, ATT, and T mobile. Id say the service was pretty much the same with all and T mobile was the best to deal with.

All the American cell phone carriers are a focking scam though. Everywhere else I go in the world, I just buy a SIM card in the airport or on the street for next to nothing, reload as necessary.

been with verizon forever. I have a 'family plan' with my brother, mother and grandmother (basic phone for emergencies) all under mine. Somewhere along the lines we lost the grandfathered unlimited data and ended up with 6GB shared (basically among 3 lines) and as soon as they announced their new unlimited plans, we conveniently started going over every month when previously that happened very rarely. I called them up and called BS as everytime we went over I got a convenient text and e-mail reminder about their new unlimited plans. Magically after complaining to report fraud, the overages stopped.

then I had some issues setting my mother up with international on a trip to Ireland. I knew there are apps to make this easier but for her it was supposed to be simpler to just pay a flat fee for a week of international calling, no data.

that turned into a headache

so i've been looking to switch and honestly if T-Mobile can save money on our current bill (roughly 175-180/month including an employer discount) i'm ready to do it. Can't imagine the service could be that much worse. Service is about the only thing I can say i've never had an issue with in regards to verizon. Call service that is.

Verizon probably has the best call service of them all. But they are up there with Comcast for sh!t customer service.

oh, absolutely.

right now i believe 3/4 lines are free and out of contract while the iphone i bought my mother is probably still being "financed".

i'll have to chat with someone at T-Mobile and see what a 4 line plan would run me and if they will "buy out" the remainder on that last phone.

I switched from Tmobile prepaid to Verizon contract a year ago and couldn't be happier. Paying $140 vs $50 a month is whatever. I can use my phone in any county in America. On any interstate in America. And can stream high speed with no throttles, unlimited. The only restriction is that hot spot streaming gets throttled after something like 20GB in a month. If I pay off the $200-ish balance on my phone now the bill would drop another $20-$25.

For a family plan though I would definitely go with Tmobile or a prepaid service with one of the carriers or MVNOs.

Spending close to $300/mo for a family plan so kids can snap each other and post duck faces and booty pics to IG is absurd.

My friend just went to this as well. We had just upgraded a month before on Verizon as our phones were paid off and both starting to crap out. Battery life was down to about 6-8hrs, even almost non usage. Frustrating. So we are only about 2months in on new Galaxy 9 and a 9+. Not sure the T-Mobile buy out would cover enough to make it worth our while but I am going to look into it. The savings per month will certainly be there. Will it be enough to buy out our new / old phones after what T-Mobile will cover for the Military One Plan? And will it be worth keeping our son (in Hawaii) on our plan or having him open his own to build credit? Questions we're working on.

My kid is almost 5 and went to stay with my dad for the weekend. for the 1st time.

I installed an app on my old iphone 6 that lets you receive and make calls for free. Naturally, you have to be on wifi

In case my dad croaked, I wanted him to be able to call me

Did the same thing 18 months ago. Dropped Sprint at $250 for 3 lines, to MetroPCS at $100 for 4 lines, unlimited everything. Why did i wait so long? Also, I casually mentioned the switch to 2 buddies, and they switched the next day. No brainer.

They pay $650 a phone.. and you can use your verizon phone on T-Mobile.

So.. there's a $1300 incentive right there! Hah... but I'd make sure the S9's are covered first... our S8+'s were. Go chat them up. I'm pretty happy with the no bu11shit pricing.. thats it.. taxes are included etc.

You've never had to worry about me paying sucka!

Nope. There isn't a person on this board, that I have personally had money dealings with, whether it be DNDL, or Edex or whatever, that hasn't paid immediately and or received their money immediately.

I'm on hold with AT&T right now. I have been trying to buy a phone and add it to my plan for a week. The website would not recognize that I was adding it to my plan, it kept treating it as a new plan. I gave up after four or five hours over two days. I got someone on the phone and placed the order. Six days later, the phone still hasn't shipped. They tell me they are waiting until the number can be transferred from the old carrier. I don't know why they can't just send me the phone. I had to give them a password for the old phone, but I didn't know they were waiting for that. I gave them the password, he said it worked, then I immediately got an email saying the password was wrong. I keep getting transferred and starting over. I have been online, on chat, or on the phone for about six hours total. I'm just trying to buy a phone and add it to my account.
