McCaffrey & Cook

Recommended Posts

Trying not to by into the rookie RB hype, but the two guys I listed looked pretty viable in their limited preseason. Cook looks like a better receiving back than I initially thought, and McCaffrey looks like a better rusher than some give him credit for. I moved them up my rankings a bit but am I falling victim to the post Zeke rookie hype? Or do they actually warrant a mid teen RB draft ranking in ppr or even in standard?

I'm all over Dalvin, not so much for Mccaffrey. Cook is a 3 down guy who can catch and will probably start. Mcaffrey is just some white 3rd down guy. Poor mans woodhead.

If he's bigger and faster than Woodhead wouldn't that make Woodhead a poor man's Mccaffrey? lol

I think the Panthers are going to give Mccaffrey every opportunity to be a 3-down back but if he can't handle the hits i think AT WORST he's Danny Woodhead, which still wouldn't be too bad for PPR. All depends if you're willing to take that risk.

As for Cook, I think he's going to struggle with that leaky O-line. All early reports sound really bad and even if he's starting week 1 right out of the gate, Murray and possibly Mckinnon might push him for touches.

Standard i'd say Cook > Mccaffrey (but its really close)

PPR Mccaffrey > Cook (by large margin)

Good white skill position players are like the sith, there can only really be two. Jordy and Woodhead. Maybe Edelman as well but he falls off with Cooks in town maybe. The point is, I just don't see another white guy making a big impact. I mean, he's cool, maybe I'd take him as a dart throw rb4 or hopeful flex, but that's it.

Can we add Gronk to that list? Oh and btw, that's racist lol

Oh I should say it only applies to wr/rb, TE is a different case.

can only be racist if talking about black or blackish QB's

I have always laughed at the term "reverse racism", as if racism can only mean whites against anyone not white.

Anyway, only reason I dont like McCaffrey is because the team that drafted him. Fournette would have been great there. I do like Cook though. But I have 2 other guys Im buying in on rather than them.

Cook is talented...with a better O Line (as a Vikes homer).

McCaffrey is fast and quick, but he's small and can't be a 3 down back. He's a more talented Woodhead.

Fournette is an absolute STUD playing for a crap team with a crap OLine and crap QB.

Joe Mixon is the rookie RB to own this year. He's the real deal with 3 down capability. OLine ain't the best, but they have a good passing game which is more than the Jags or Vikes can say.

Mixon is too talented to keep off the field all year.

Agreed on Mixon. With Fournette, I think he'll be good enough to shine even on that team. But I could be wrong

JStew is hurt all the time. MCcafrry is legit and will benefit from JStew missing games. Plus, Cam is gonna check down with that bad shoulder a ton. . Woodhead is old, frail, tiny and mediocre. Can't compare the two.

It is amazing how many people run with a narrative and stick with it. His sophomore year (2015, I swore McCaffrey was 220 pounds with the way he ran over some defenders.

When I said in my draft profiles he has no major weaknesses (only things to tighten up), I wasn't kidding. In the right offense, I could see him being this generation's Marshall Faulk or Brian Westbrook. Folks don't want to take my word for it? Former Panthers GM Dave Gettleman said he was comparable to C-Mart as an inside runner. If J-Stew was out of the picture, I might be willing to draft McCaffrey in the first round of fantasy drafts.

Absolutely. While I don't foresee a Zeke type year from any of the rookies this year, Cook is my bet to finish at the head of the pack. Of the "big name"(rookie) RBs, I'd rank them:

Cook

Fournette

Mixon (I might move him to #2 depending on preseason)

McCaffrey

So would you go as far to just say you will draft the black guy but wont draft the white guy? :argue:

I miss out on all the known rookies. So I will have to draft a guy not on anyones radar like I did with David Johnson and hope he turns into the same.

I wish I had more to choose from like in DJ's rookie year

Funny you mentioned that. I've always called McCaffrey a better, more athletic Woodhead.

How far out did you miss? This is a pretty deep draft class.

Keep an eye on Seattle's Chris Carson. The kid looks really good.

Lacey and Rawls are free agents next year. Prosise is really only a 3rd down guy. Alex Collins doesn't look like anything (I hate saying that, I liked him coming out of college). And Mike Davis hasn't looked good since his sophmore year at SC

In a re-draft league, they'll both go way too early for me. They're both going to be a part of some sort of committee resulting in very inconsistent results. I'd take them in the 6th or 7th rounds as my RB3, but not in the 3rd or 4th as my RB2.

At RB and WR not counting Jordy or patriots, yes absolutely.

and you held him the whole year even though he only got the starting job in Week 13?

even with him peppering in a few big plays here and there, he was still #3 on their depth chart most of the year, so impressive if you did hold him all year.

I've been able to get Cook & Crowell (after going WR-WR) in a lot of mocks drafting from 9 or 10 (in 10 team PPR). I'd take that no prob

Was super lucky and scored Cook in round 4. Pick 43

I was able to get him there as well. Got him at 4.03 in a 10 team league. Everyone gave me crap saying it was too early.

These guys are going early round one of our 4 player keeper draft as we all know. I can move up to 1.2 if I give up 1.8 and 2.11 so I get Cook or McCaffery. Its tempting especially when I have a great team already with OBJ David Johnson, Brady & Cooks.

Would you spend that much to move up and for who?

Cook is gonna suck. People are now elated to have him? The Vikes can't run the ball.

Are you saying that the Vikings have proven they have an O-line.

Cause as a Vikings fan, I don't see that.

This is the weakness of this franchise.

Quite simply put, if one needs a reason to remove a GM. It is for a lack of assembling and maintaining an Oline

I am still not convinced the Oline coach they have is worth a dime.

I'd exercise caution

I'll disagree that he is gonna suck.

But I am also not convinced they can conventionally run the ball.

Which Cook has promise of fitting and benefiting from this.

Not most of the time that is. Will take some smoke and mirrors.

I'd exercise caution, in general, of the Vikings offense. Much promise, but a questionable offensive line....(you can conclude my thoughts on that)

ooh yes I did. I got OBJ buy drafting him late to cuz he was hurt. I am like one player away this year so I would move up in draft if I can get it right. Who do you reach for?

Any of the top 4 rookie rbs are worth more imo.

I'd make that trade right away.

I am trying to justify it. I think that is still a lot to give up. Especially when there are other guys out there that could outperform. This is why I brought up this question, hearing everyones response helps me get closer to the right pick. Now who could I get at 1.8 & 2.11? Well maybe Bryant and Kelley or Powell and Crowder.

You bring up a good point. Redraft league versus keeper league is an important distinction.

Real talk, am I crazy for thinking of Cook in the middle of rnd 2? 12tm ppr. Assume I took a wr in rnd 1.

I dont see the problem with it personally, I wouldnt do it, but since the likes of Marshawn, Hyde, L.Miller are in that range, I see no problem with it, maybe if I was at the flip around 24

I personally have to have Mccaffrey, and I will pay with a 3rd, but cant go much higher

Who fits int the mold of OBJ a couple of years ago. A star that is injured or suspended> Obviously Elliot. Anyone else?
