Brag on your team a bit.

WR B Cooks, D Baldwin, Hurns, Lockett, B Ellington

I already wrote something up so a lot of this will be the same.

What went right?

I was able to pick up my top rated QB and RB in the draft. I also added a very capable RB2 in Lacy. I thought Lacy was pretty good value for what his potential is. I was able to get a solid top receiver in the second round in Cooks along with good options behind him.

What went wrong?

I wouldn't say that anything went wrong. I am always a believe in an even team unless the value of the player available is just way too good to pass up.

Who did I miss out on?

Jordan Matthews- after all of the negative pub that he has gotten, along with Bradford still being his qb, I thought he would fall to me in the 4th.

Rishard Matthews- In a real draft I probably pick him a little early to make sure I get him. I purposely traded for him in one dynasty league and love his potential ppr upside. He is the best receiver on that team imo.

Any regrets?

I can't think of any. I pretty much got who I wanted. I probably did take Jordan Howard a little early, but I also didn't miss out on anyone by doing so. Getting a guy who could be Chicago's starting RB since the other two on the roster aren't all that good, that was the important thing.

I would have to put my team top 4 if Djohns and Wilson are indeed the top of their positions like I believe.

I'm curious if you guys like my team as is or better if I went Hopkins in round 1 and say Ingram in Round 2 replacing Gurley and Allen.

I think it's possible that I have 5 WRS in the top 36 when all is said and done but I know I'm probably higher than consensus on Torrey and Travis.

What went right? My plan going into this draft was to get a great set of starting WRs if they were available. Each of the first three rounds I found the best player to be a WR and I am very happy with them. I think AJ Green has a great season and he's consistent. Jeffery has some risk but if he's healthy he's a stud and I think he has a big year. I couldn't believe DT slipped to the 3rd round and I thought that was a complete steal. I could possible have 3 top 10 WRs this year. With my WRs locked I wanted to get a bunch of RBs in the middle rounds that will get rushing and receiving yards. Most of the guys I really wanted were available to me. I wanted Duke and Mathews and was very happy with getting Crowell in the 10th. I know defense isn't a make or break position but I was pretty happy to get what I consider to be the top 1/2 defense after a few defenses were already taken.

What went wrong? I don't think anything really went wrong. There were some players I wanted that went before me. I probably could have gotten a better TE but felt after the first 5 they are all the same so I waited.

Who did you miss out on? Rivers has been at the top of my list for a late round QB but he didn't fall far enough for me. I was happy with Eli and Stafford though. That's about it really.

Any regrets? So far no regrets. I drafted the team exactly how I imagined it to be. I may change my mind after the season though.

Wild Cards on team? Sterling Shepard and Kamar Aiken would be my wild cards at WR. I think they are great late round picks. Pretty much all of my RBs are wild cards.

Are you top 4, middle 4, or bottom 4? Going WR heavy and hoping that one of my RBs hits worked for me last year and I expect it to work again. I have a top 4 team here.

Qb's - Aaron Rodgers (4)
- Tyrod Taylor (10)

Rb's - Mark Ingram (5)
- Doug Martin (6)
- Chris Ivory (5)
 - James Starks (4)
- DeAndre Washington (10)

Wr's - Julio Jones (11)
- Larry Fitzgerald (9)
- Michael Crabtree (10)
- Tavon Austin (8)
 - Laquon Treadwell (6)

Te's - Travis Kelce (5)
- Jordan Cameron (8)

K - Graham Gano (7)

Def. - LA Rams

What went right - I'm very happy with the balance on my squad. I have two solid anchors in Julio and Aaron Rodgers, who both should be consistent top 3 scorers in their categories weekly. Ingram is trusted and will be heavily used again this season. He's on an explosive offense that loves using him in the redzone, while Martin trailed only AP in touches last year on an up and coming offense. Kelce is primed for the next step and should weigh heavily in the passing attack especially in the redzone.

What went wrong - I have been successful in drafts this year grabbing Ivory and Yeldon as my #3/4 Rb. It is harder to accomplish in ppr leagues, though I have no doubt Ivory will be the lead back. I was also targeting Walker for round 6 which is earlier than his current adp by just about a round and lost him to the guru. I hope I made the right selection between Kelce and Fleener. I see Fleener with more targets and Kelce with more Td's.

Who did I miss out on - Walker, leading to a Receiver I was very happy to land in the late 6th. (Crabtree) I was sure tracking Sterling too and he exited in the mid 8th. Treadwell in the late 10th eased my pain.

Any regrets - Though getting Rodgers in the late 4th was solid value, I would love a chance to see what I could have put together had I held off on the Qb. early. Often times that messes with your balance and it's hard to recover.

Wild cards on team - Washington, Treadwell, and Cameron. How big of role can/will DeAndre bite off in Oakland. Will Treadwell lead the Vikes in receptions. Can Gase turn things around for Jordon Cameron?

Top 4 - (I don't really expect anyone to say any different though a few might say middle) I have a team that should be easy to manage and has depth to overcome the normal wear and tear the season brings.

It was a fun draft!

Tough question. Hopkins showed what he could do with any QB last year, but Allen is also a target ###### in San Diego. Gurley is a beast, and it will be interesting to see how his points stack up to ingram who will likely trail heavily in rushing yards while getting 15+ more receptions. It looks pretty even to me between your two options.

I like Manning over Rivers, especially this season with Shepard on board.

What went right? I was able to nab a top RB option and still fill out 3 PPR WRs that I am very happy with starting weekly.
What went wrong? I probably missed out on a stronger QB 1 option that I would have liked.
Who did you miss out on? No one specific. I may have nabbed Carr or Winston instead of going for WR-RB depth but all in all I like Tanny-Fitz(if he signs) nearly just as much.
Any regrets?
Wild Cards on team?? I think my WR 4-5 in Torrey Smith and Travis Benji have a chance to perform as every week WR 3s.
Are you top 4, middle 4, or bottom 4? I'd say right off the bat I'd put myself in the middle 4. I think I have strong depth at RB-WR and the potential for more if things break right.

What went right?

Getting Bell and Amari Cooper, but not much else, good drafting prevented value from falling to me, speaks to the quality of the people participating.

What went wrong?

I did not snatch falling value, which is my normal tact. I wait for mistakes and then I pounce on the results. In this draft there were very few mistakes, and where they did happen I could not derive any meaningful value.

Who did you miss out on?

Jordan Reed hurt alot, then also Golden Tate made me wince. Missing out on those two really changed my draft. Typically I use a living model to evolve my draft as it unfolds and missing out on them decreased my predicted draft value by 13%, ouch....

Any regrets?

Not really, though I did find that I could have bumped by value % by a few points had I waited on selecting QB #1

Wild Cards on team??

Oh yes, everybody past round 3, lol, I do tend to not be risk averse and will make moves that others would perhaps avoid, but in this draft none of my later picks that hopefully would become difference makers will likely make a difference, aside from maybe Steve Smith who should outperform his spot by at least two rounds.

Are you top 4, middle 4, or bottom 4?

I would assess myself lower middle, with perhaps a decent change to rise to upper middle.

QB - Luck, Ryan

RB - Forte, Bernard, Stewart, Vereen

WR - Dez, Arob, Maclin, Wheaton, R. Matthews

TE - Ertz, Clay

K - McManus

Def - Pathers, Bengals

What went right? I think I landed a very solid QB duo and a very solid trio of starting WR's, also paired them with a capable group of RB's maybe not a top tier set but suitable to do well with this draft.

What went wrong? I don't think much went wrong in this draft, when your drafting with people who know how to draft and build a team I don't expect to much to go wrong. Drafting from the 12 spot just made me more aware of what to grab since there are so many picks in between

Who did you miss out on? Antonio Brown and Julio Jones I really expected them to make it to me at the 12 and 13 spot!! lol

Any regrets? Dunno why I took a back up Def should have gone with a 5th RB oh well

Wild Cards on team?? Wheaton and Matthews could be very helpful players throughout the season.

Are you top 4, middle 4, or bottom 4? Based on my draft board 3rd. Looking at the totals the two teams above me I have them scoring the same amount of pts based off of projections. But this is a tight league so in the end we shall see what happens. Love doing these drafts always fun and great primer for the season

I like your team. You need to hit on Forte for sure. And yes I don't know why you would take a backup D.

QB: Tony Romo, Kirk Cousins

RB: Jamaal Charles, Thomas Rawls, Frank Gore, Rashad Jennings, Charcandrick West

WR: Antonio Brown, Brandon Marshall, John Brown, Willie Snead, Muhamad Sanu

TE: Greg Olsen, Clive Walford

K: Steven Hauschka

D: Seattle Seahawks

What went right?

Considering who I was drafting against, I think being able to build a balanced team that I would be comfortable fielding week in and week out was a victory. I normally don't take as many risky players as I did, but going in I wanted to open myself to that and I may have over done it (which, I guess, means it may have gone too right). On an individual player basis, I was happy to get Greg Olsen at the end of the fourth and I thought John Brown provided good value at the end of the sixth.

What went wrong?

I don't think anything went "wrong" necessarily, although I did miss out on a couple of players that I was hoping for (see below).

Who did you miss out on?

I was really excited about landing Ingram at the end of the second and got sniped by one pick. Similarly, I would have preferred Jarvis Landry (who went two picks before me) over Brandon Marshall. Also, at the end of the eighth, Remote sniped me again when he took Ivory. In a draft like this, though, I consider myself fortunate that I really only lost out on three targets.

Any regrets?

Aside from missing out on those three, none that are readily apparent right now. Part of me wishes I would have gone QB a little earlier, but I would have missed out on what I did get and I'm comfortable with Cousins and Romo.

Wild Cards on team?

In the traditional sense, I suppose Snead, Sanu and Walford are all wild cards. Depending on Fitzgerald, Marshall could be a wild card. But, technically, I think this year all my backs may qualify. Charles' health is up in the air, Rawls isn't officially the starter yet, Gore and Jennings' hold on their starting jobs may be tenuous and West may not be the primary back up.

Are you top 4, middle 4, or bottom 4?

I think that all depends on how my RB's play out. If I missed on all of them, I'm clearly bottom four. If I can get decent production I'm easily middle four and I think solid production from them puts me in the top four.

QB: Brady, Rivers

RB: Lamar Miller, Elliott, Charles Sims, DeAngelo Williams, Kenneth Dixon

WR: Cobb, Decker, Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Thomas, Sammie Coates

TE: Delanie Walker, Martellus Bennett

K: Dan Bailey

DT: Jets

What went right? The WR craze this year may allow owners picking at the end of the first round to build a strong old-school RB-centric team, something that has been virtually impossible to do in recent years. Although Dez Bryant was my target on the back end of the 1-2 turn, I couldn't believe nicdolas went WR-WR with Zeke on the board, which halted any idea of building around at least one stud WR capable of 90-plus catches AND 10-plus touchdowns. As a result, I believe I landed two clear RB1s early. I think a case can be made that I have two top-10 QBs, the best 1-2 punch at RB in the league and the best pair of TEs after jscott. Considering I took the RB-RB approach I did, I was pleased to come away with three wideouts I consider to be WR2s at worst. Getting Rivers to fill in for Brady during his suspension was a coup as well.

What went wrong? No complaints.

Who did you miss out on? When knowledgeable and skilled owners get together for a draft like this, targeted players are going to get taken a couple of picks before your selection on a fairly regular basis. It's the nature of the beast. As such, players such as Demaryius Thomas and Jeremy Maclin went just ahead of my picks, and it would have been nice to go DT-Cobb or Cobb-Maclin at the 3-4 turn. With that said, it was a minor setback. I was also hoping DeVante Parker and Kevin White would slip a little later than they did, although it going to be a lot to ask to get either one of those players as a WR4 this year.

Any regrets? It'd be nice to have a clear WR1 (I think Cobb will be that guy, however), but that's a big ask for one to hang around until the third round, especially when you feel like you have two top-six RBs on the roster and you're picking at the end of the first.

Wild Cards on team? Coates and Dixon. If Coates blossoms into the next Martavis Bryant, I'm going to have a real deep group of WRs. If Dixon takes the starting job in Baltimore like I think he will at some point, I should have rare top-end production at RB just about every week, including bye weeks.

Are you top 4, middle 4, or bottom 4? Top four. With two RB1s, I really only need good health (who doesn't?) and my starting WRs to play up to their usual standards to field a strong team. Of course, it is a lot to ask nowadays to keep both stud RBs healthy for a full season. The good thing is neither Miller nor Zeke are in any danger of losing their jobs. Proven depth at WR is my only concern.

QB - Palmer, Bortles

RB - Peterson; Ajayi; Gordon,SD; Foster,Miami; CAP

WR - Nelson, K. Benjamin, Watkins, Parker, Gordon

TE - Barnadge, Ebron

K - Cantazaro

Def - Arizona Cardinals

What went right? Getting the WR corps I wanted at the top of the draft. I went into this draft wanting to get my WRs early given this is a PPR draft, and I succeed. Watkins will be healthy and a wonderful WR3 on this team. Also, I purposely wanted to wait on drafting QBs and see how it went and I ended up with 2 very good ones IMO. Bortles in 10.03 was a steal I thought.

What went wrong? I really wanted Winston, and would have taken him in the 12th, but he went right before me. I would love to see how this would work with 3 QBs, but after Winston went I abandoned this strategy.

Who did you miss out on? D. Allen, TE, Winston, Diggs, Brady

Any regrets? Not really. Some picks you don't get because this is a group of "sharks" and you can't get every player you are counting on the round before.

Wild Cards on team?? Obviously, as in the June Mock I took chances on Foster and Gordon. If Gordon comes back, even after week 3/4 then I have 5 receivers who I believe can compete with any team out there! Gordon, SD at running back is a mystery, but he could shine or he could be like his 2015 self.

Are you top 4, middle 4, or bottom 4? Top 4. I am not one to ever "talk up my team" but I really like this one and I would take it 10 out of 10 times in my money leagues. I went in thinking I am sandwiched between the Guru and JScott and I will get snipped constantly, but I wouldn't have wanted Graham, Newton or Gronk so I came away very pleased with my team. Go Cardinals!!

..... and THANK YOU all for your insight and comments during the draft. I changed my listings about every other day based on who you all drafted and the reasoning behind your selections. That is the true joy behind the July PPR Mock Draft.

Have a wonderful weekend.

And importantly....... THANK YOU Mike for your willingness to allow this mock and for all your effort in setting it up and managing it. Doug helps also, so thanks Doug.

Guys,

I just posted Jason Katz's piece, analyzing the mock. The goal wasn't to review good picks, bad picks, etc although there is some of that (sorry JScott :)), but it was speaking more general draft strategy observations and drafting themes.
