The government will dictate exactly what people eat now?

Recommended Posts

I don't think anybody should go hungry in a country is Rich As We Are. That's why I really don't have a problem with making sure kids get two and three hot meals at school. If the parents want to make bad decisions, that's on them. But there should be a floor as to what we accept for our nation's children.

I have no idea what the expense would be but wouldn't have a problem with this. I also think school funding should cease being tied to property tax. It's unfair.

That said, people gaming the system and abusing welfare should not get what amounts to a pay raise every time they pop another kid out. That's bullshit.

I owned a downtown deli back in the early 90's,overheard one of my regular "welfare customer all day coffee drinkers" say in a conversation with others like her that she needed to find a man soon because she needed another kid for that exact reason. Shortly after that I cut her and her loser friends off from hanging out in my place all day saying I needed the table space for food customers.

I'm fine with this. As long as people can get what they need with food stamps; that is the whole point of these programs.

It is always a portion of people that ruin it for the others and that sometimes is life. The portion of food stampers who indulge in foods that just create health problems for their already helpless selves ruined it for the portion that may have went out and got what they needed but enjoyed picking out what they wanted.

I'm fine with helping people out. But just like any situation it gets really annoying when said people start expecting and then in turn get mad like they are entitled to something they cannot provide for themselves.

Three years lifetime maximum on Government Assistance should be the law. How do I get in Trump's ear with my idea?

Your ideas are dumb.

I think this is great, and I generally hate everything Trump, sans kicking out the illegal mexis.

The house next door to me is a rental. The current occupants are your basic white trash family. Their trash always blows into our yard, and a couple times it's been their food stamp receipt. Nothing but soda, chips, hostess and other junk food. I'm all for feeding children, as they're innocent victims; but giving in essence a blank check to people who have already proven to be irresponsible, is the epitome of dumb.

Up crime. Up prisons where we probably pay more per person. Up security.

Yeah good idea. I like the way your simple mind thinks.

You are lucky you passed high school and didn't end up as a cheese slicer.

I see it here all the time with white trash too. They are not food stamps, they are snack stamps.

Or they trade them for drugs, for food stamp pennies on the dollar.

They switched to EBT cards here years ago but when we bought the store they still used the physical "money". We used to have a customer who had 4 or 5 kids and he would send each one in one at a time to buy some cheap piece of candy or whatnot and get the change and out they went. A few minutes later he's come in and buy 40 ouncers with change.

Fock you, dude.

1) When I was younger and lived at home, guess who decided what I ate? My parents. If you choose to be dependent on someone else they get to decide how you use the resources they give you.

2) We already have limits on what you can use food stamps for. For those who think people should be able to decide how to spend their food stamp money, are you ok with them swapping it for drugs or alcohol?

I'm fine with them trading them for whatever they want. Teach them simple bartering.

If they just some how restrict them to chicken, potatoes, vegetables they become worth less. They were meant to be there to survive and feed your family. It shouldn't be hard to limit the items they can choose from and eliminate the junk food.

Treat it like Survivor. Give them 2 chickens and a fish net.

But I don't even live near water...

There's a difference. You are basically property of the gov, not a civ.

I'm not surprised that people in this thread don't mind more government interference since it doesn't affect them. Party of the shellfish.

Many geeks are quite clammy.

Fishtown is near the water. Right next to it as a matter of fact.

Heathy, cheap food. No candy, chips, cookies, cupcakes, beer, pop/soda/coke.

A lot of that is already a requirement of the program.

It's part of what bugs me so much. It's a lot like the Visa / immigrant plan. There is so much ignorance and lack of Education as to what the current process is, yet everybody sure it's crap and they're sure they have a better way.

That's the problem with Trump. Is he is just not a detail guy by his own admission and he's uncurious and uneducated and so he takes internet bullshit like people are buying $400 shoes with their welfare stamps and thinking that's reality when it just isn't.

One politician a while ago tried to educate himself and I give him credit for that. He went through the process of applying for and finding out how much he would receive in food benefits. It was something like less than $2/day.

There's different programs. And I think when some people refer to welfare, theyre probably actually thinking of SSD.

And when people start referring to what percentage of the budget is so-called entitlement programs? They include Social Security. Which is something I and you, not you but most Americans have been paying into damn near their whole lives. It's not a give me. It's a give me back.

Interesting take coming from a guy who pays an organization to control virtually every aspect of his career.

I pay them to bargain my wage and benefit package. I go find my own work. Plus it's a private union.

Also if you are referring to the government property aspect, that's just how it is with the military. If a service member gets hurt doing something stupid, they are in trouble for damaging government property

Seems like a great idea to me. :dunno:

What's the old saying "beggars can't be choosers"

And I'm not trying in the least to disparage poor people as beggars, but when you get gov't funded assistance like food stamps that coming with strings attached is not only fine, it makes sense. I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong here. Seems like a fantastic idea if it saves even one dollar.

It's nothing more than common sense, something this country has very little of anymore.

Just strategically, it's an interesting game the Trump's playing. He was all about how he and he alone was the only GOP candidate that was going to protect so-called entitlement programs.

If he goes after then the way that he's been talking lately, he's going to find a really unfortunate fact.

The states that voted most heavily for him? Are buying large the states that suck up the most entitlement programs per capita as compared to tax revenue paid in.

Will be interesting to see how States like West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama ultimately react to whatever happens.

Agreed, its not a republican - democrat - white - black thing. It's just common sense.

Additionally, for non-gov't assistance food I loved what the Obama Administration did several years ago with requiring restaurants to label their food with the calories - fat - sugar - carbs - etc. You even see it at fast food drive thru menu's. Let the public choose what they want to eat and put in their bodies, but give them INFORMED decisions. Logical.

What does it say about soda, candy, chips, etc...

No, you're right. That's why I posted the link. But also I was talking more conceptually too. The idea that people are living high on the hog on food stamps and whatnot is just not consistent with reality.

Also, the reality is that crap food like Ramen is a shitload cheaper than even trying to go out and buy a sack of apples for example.

The Liberals really gave a , I'd like to see more and more of these weekend yupsterfest farmers markets focus a lot more on getting fresh veggies 2 poor people rather than selling $17 bottles of organic artisanal pickles.

May 4, 2017

Starting May 5, restaurants and food stores across the U.S. were going to be required to include calorie counts on their menus. The Trump administration has delayed calorie labeling until next year, and is considering relaxing the requirements for certain food service establishments, a push that’s been led by the supermarket and pizza lobbies.

I couldn't disagree more with ksb. Michelle Obama came up with a stupid idea of putting calorie counts on every menu. Like somebody's walking into McDonald's and ordering a Double Quarter Pounder with cheese and decides to have a salad because they saw the calorie count.

Not to mention, this created a huge unnecessary cost to small businesses. Its a real Boon for the people who make menus though.

Trump's trying to dial back all kinds of good legislation that occurred under Obama but he's going to let this one go through? Cheesus.

Just proves my point that the wives of presidents should just shut the fuk up. The bush ladies got it right. This isn't England, just because you're fukking the king doesn't make you Queen.
