Whiskey Glass Recommendation

Recommended Posts

My go to drink at home is whiskey and water, on the rocks.

Unfortunately my glass has cracked and I need recommendations for a good quality replacement. Heavy base, can be a plain design or can have cut glass sides. Preferably 10 oz. Willing to spend a little $$. I like a good whiskey / scotch glass.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Set of 4 for $33? I dunno....Seems like cheap stuff to me--but the reviews are good

Admittedly, I don't know anything about this topic, but what justifies the price of a good glass? Is it supposed to impact the taste of the whiskey?

The size/shape of glass can allow for better ability for smell the whiskey, affects taste.

Stop treating whiskey like just another spirit and start respecting the quality with these whiskey glasses. Not only do they look dapper, they’re scientifically engineered to cut the sharp nose sting and lift the sweetest aromas to the front

So do you think a whiskey connoisseur could distinguish the smell/taste from the $170 set vs. the 4 for $33? Or after a certain price, is it mostly a status thing?

I doubt it. I read something recently about how all these wine connoisseurs couldn't really distinguish expensive from cheap wine, so I really doubt that a whiskey guy is really going to notice a taste difference because of the glass...but whatever makes you happy. My recommendation was 100% based on that is the whiskey glass used by Harrison Ford in Blade Runner, my favorite movie.

To a small degree yes, but that's not why you get them. Like anything in life having quality makes the experience "feel" better. You spend a good bit on a bottle and drink it on 'special' occasions it's nice to have a comparable receptacle to enjoy that occasion with, its more about how it makes you feel than a status thing, IMHO, it's not like there are a ton of people around when I sit on the back patio with a nice pour of Blantons or ER17 and enjoy a fire and a nice cigar, it's about how I feel, I like nice things, I work hard, I want to enjoy some things, this is one of them. I spent close to $100 for these,is the ice colder? Nope, they just enhance my personal experience

There was a bar at Treasure Island that had the best damn rocks glass I've ever drank from. I swear I wouldn't let it go.

I get that, but was curious how the quality was evident, aside from the price. Sounds like there are a few factors - smell, taste of the whiskey, and the feel of the glass. Even if you're alone, your experience may be enriched by the status aspect as well - maybe when you purchased the glass, or the feeling you get knowing you can afford and enjoy life's "finer" things.

Nope, its not about 'status'.

Maybe not for you. But some may like the feeling they get purchasing something exclusive and refined, even if they can't spell out objective differences between a cheaper and more expensive glass.

To be clear, I don't care how you spend your money, and hope you enjoy the finest whiskey with the nicest ice spheres in the best receptacle. I was just surprised how pricey the glasses are, and how quickly supermike dismissed the cheaper ones, as I don't consider these things when I drink.

Part of the whole thing is the ceremony if you will. The right glassware has a lot to do with that. I get it.

Dammit. I made the comment that the reviews were good. So I didnt immediately dismiss it.

But you were skeptical of the quality, as if the glass must cost x dollars to even consider.

Theres a term for items that demand increases with increasing cost, despite being contrary to fundamental laws of supply and demand. Theyre called Veblen goods, and maybe shot glasses qualify.

I should change the name of the store to Veblan Goods and raise the price of everything 5000%. I'd be so rich.
