    ESPN Commish Service

While I agree with you that ESPN has had their problems, they mostly only took place in their first year (2003). Like I said before, last season, I didn't have so much as ONE problem with their service and Sunday's live scoring features were very, very rarely slow. No more or less problems than what I've experienced in the past with other leagues that cost money to use...

Are there any sites that show 50+ yd. plays?

I know that Fantasy Football Index (magazine) shows the length of every TD run, pass or throw. I would assume their site does as well, but you need to buy the mag to access the site. www.fantasyfootballindex.com
  4. One of the leagues I'm in has dwindled over the years to only 8 members. Frankly, having only eight teams in the league and running it with a normal setup has gotten a bit stale. I've been thinking of ways to change things up to salvage it. Here's what I came up with... Have two drafts, one with only NFC players, one with only AFC players. The NFC plays their own season, ditto with the AFC. Two completely different leagues. Four teams out of each league make the playoffs (weeks 14 & 15). Week 16 will field the championship between the winners of each respective league (3rd place game would also take place between each league's runner up. Theoretically, if you kick ass in both leagues, you could play yourself in the championship and be guaranteed 1st AND 2nd place! What do you think?

How many leagues is too many?

I truly believe that if you get in more than four or five leagues, you get into a situation where you're playing with and against so many of the same players each week that it becomes pointless. Just my opinion!

Their website is saying the magazine will be in stores on July 8! Looking forward to it!

    Frank Gore

I don't get all of this hesitation to draft Gore that I've seen. First, I would hesitate to say that he's only shown it once. in 2005, he averaged over 5 yds. / carry, but was forced to split time. He went over 100 yds. rushing NINE TIMES last year and had 100 total yards in yet another game! The only reason one could make an argument against him was that he had a couple fumbles inside the 5 early last season which caused Nolan to pull him at the goal line for a while. But by week 7-8, he was back in their goal line formations. If I'm lucky enough to get the #2 pick, then I'll be taking Gore!

    ESPN Commish Service

Was looking around the FF section of ESPN yesterday and noticed that only a free service is available... no sign of the premium "EDGE" service they had last year at a cost of $99. Anyone know what the deal is here? If they're offering everything that was included in last year's premium service for free this season, I'd say it's totally worth a try. I set up a league with them yesterday just to see what came with it, and sure enough, it was totally customizable (scoring, rosters, waivers, etc.), has live "FantasyCast" scoring, let's you have divisions, and allows 2 email addresses per team (a BIG plus in my league). I was in a league that used ESPN's premium service last season and while I didn't have the highest expectations (had a bad experience using them in their inaugural 2003 season), I actually liked it quite a bit. The FantasyCast live scoring feature is the best I've ever seen and the site didn't have any foul-ups all season. I know it sounds like I'm answering my own questions, but I just want to see if they still plan on having their premium service and what else it might offer. Thanks!

    FFIndex

Looking forward to picking my copy up at the bookstore in a couple weeks. As fantasy magazines go, it's the only one worth getting!
  10. Does AOL's service provide Live Scoring? And does it allow two email addresses per team?

    Lottery

I'm thinking of doing the same. My league members are spread all over the place, but I still want everyone to see the lottery to make sure everything's on the up and up. If you go to YouTube and search "fantasy draft" you'll see that a lot of guys are using it for this purpose exactly. Good luck!
  12. With the idea of starting two QBs each week being thrown around, it got me thinking. Wouldn't it make more sense to just keep the one starting QB but bump passing TDs up to 6 pts instead of the usual 4 or 5? That being said, if QBs were awarded 6 pts per pass TD, would that effect your overall rankings enough? Would Peyton become a 1st rounder? Brees and Palmer 2nd rounders?
  13. Looking for comprehensive reviews of all online commissioner sites (Sportsline, Yahoo!, MFL, Fanball, etc.). Don't bother posting "Sportsline sucks... use Fanball instead." comments. We're looking for more in-depth, pro/con reviews of all the providers. Looking forward to your thoughts!

    Shaking up my draft

Here's a good way to blend #1 and #3. Everyone loves a lottery. They're fun, suspenseful and a great way to get everyone excited right before the draft starts. But at the same time, you don't want people tanking at the end of the regular season. So, right before the draft starts, hold a lottery that will determine not where you pick, but where you want to pick, just like in option #3. This option you could do in re-draft leagues, because the stakes won't be as high. Here's how it goes... A real simple way to do a lottery: bring two decks of cards (with jokers) to the draft. In this case, we'll use a 12 team league. Here's the cards each team gets based on the way they finished the season before. Champ - Ace card (1 card) Runner-Up - 2 card (1) 3rd - 3 card (1) 4th - two 4 cards (2) 5th - two 5 cards (2) 6th - two 6 cards (2) 7th - three 7 cards (3) 8th - three 8 cards (3) 9th - three 9 cards (3) 10th - four 10 cards (4) 11th - four Jack cards (4) 12th - four Queen cards (4) Shuffle them up and draw a card to determine who gets first choice of the draft slot they want. As soon as the card is drawn, that team goes up to the draft board and puts their name down on the pick they choose. If that team has more cards in the deck, remove them and draw again until all draft spots are filled. Think of it as the NBA Lottery meets the Kentucky Derby post draw.
