Maclin to the Chiefs

Recommended Posts

Chris Mortensen is reporting the Chiefs will sign Maclin on Tuesday. I hope he likes running more cross routes and less go routes.

So many moves this year before the actual beginning of free agency.... I guess Crabtree is last up. I see Oakland for him. Which would be ironic since they passed him up for DHB on draft day.

Yep, confirmed by Schefty.

Can't think of a worse place for Maclin to go to. Like you can depend on Alex Smith to throw you the ball beyond 5 yards past the line of scrimmage.

He will be the best wr they have had in years. Still a guy the D has to account for. Maclin has little value in my eyes but I think it does nothing but help Charles. Not that he needs it

as i posted in the shady thread, i'm starting to think that chip wants to be the brightest star in the organization.

He can do that by letting everyone go but Sanchez.

Yeah I've heard of no interest in Crabtree, and as a Raider fan don't want him. The news of note in this is KC won't have any cheese left for Rodney Hudson, and the Raiders ARE very interested in him.

Bowe was a productive WR2/3 not so long ago.

Maybe this season a Wr with KC will catch a touchdown

I think he's playing moneyball... taking money out of easily-replaceable positions like RB & WR and (trying to) re-focus them on positions that correlate more to winning in the NFL.

Not winning in fantasy, of course.

that's one way to look at it. the igs have a very iffy QB situation, and they just dumped their two best skill position guys in the same offseason. unless they plan to be very active in free agency, the only realistic assessment is that chip thinks he can 'system' his way to good offensive production while he rebuilds the talent level.

and that tallies quite nicely with him wanting to be the star of the show.

it's also a questionable move for a team that had performed fairly well over the last 2 years, despite serious difficulties. he's basically stripping a playoff-caliber team--strange situation for a fire sale.

It's not like it's that hard to restock the offensive cupboard.....draft Green-Beckham and either Coleman or Ajayi in the first and second and sign Andre Johnson and Moreno.

Just posted Jason Mitchell's piece on Maclins fantasy outlook for 2015, which might not be as bad as you think.

I like the move for him. Alex smith has had an abismal set of receivers to throw to in KC. Though i dont think Maclin belongs in the top tier of receivers, i think he still a great option for that team. They paid him star receiver money, so obviously their perception is for him to be their star receiver. Swap him and antonio brown; Maclin would put up similar numbers imo.

Said earlier Maclin to the chiefs would actually not be as bad as everyone thinks. Like murf said with Maclin, Kelce, and Charles they have some legit threats.

Fantasy-wise: good for Charles and Kelce. Maclin will draw attention downfield giving them 5 yard passes all day long. Horrific for Maclin. Alex Smith is the WR reaper.

Eagles fan here. I think Maclin is a good but not great receiver. Good hands and route runner and a really high character guy and great teammate. Not really a downfield burner and he has only average size. I will be surprised if he puts up more than 1,000-1,100 yards and 6-8 TDs.

That said letting him go was a big mistake cause the Eagles have nothing much at receiver now.

maclin always struck me as a WR2 on the field. i like the guy, but i don't know that he has the chops to carry the load absent a serious threat on the other side (jackson) or an unusual scheme (chip). $11M for a non-dominant guy is...wow.

Alex Smith is still the QB. He's not going to suddenly start throwing down the field with any regularity

This. But I'm a Maclin owner and pessimist. Tell me again how it's good to go to a team that a QB who can't throw the ball downfield and no WR on the other side to protect him? :dunno:

Dear biased Maclin owners,

Bowe averaged 105 tgts/year the last 3 years.

Maclin had 140 last year.

More targets will go to the guys underneath... Alex Smith is not going to force the ball to an outside WR down the field.

Valid point. OTOH the Chiefs has some of the worst pass protection in the league. Expect an upgrade this year, if only because they are paying attention to it.

I'm not pretending this is an upgrade. It's not. He asked for one good thing. No other WR = bigger share of the pie, which is a good thing.

Yes but you are forgetting to add dwayne bowe sucks. Maclin isnt a superstar, but he is definitely an upgrade from bowe.
