    Players you once drafted.....fantasy nostalgia

1986 was my first year...joined the league with college buddies. It was started in 1982 when the commish was in 9th grade. Had to wait till Monday's USA Today...and again on Tuesday...sometimes Wednesday if MNF brought a late box score, to declare the winners. Anyway....recall my first team consisted of.... James Brooks Joe Morris Al Toon Ken O'Brien Not sure who else. Was kicking tail for the first 11 weeks as the Jets raced out to a 10-1 record, then they tanked with five straight losses to end the season...taking down the O'Brien/Toon tandem along with my FF team.

    All Aboard...the Montell Owens train

Two positives to look at... 1. He has virtually no competition for touches in that thing they call a backfield down in JAX. 2. I can run through the Jets defense and "I'm a MAN. I'm forty" I'm starting him because it beats starting someone who will be in street clothes or riding the pine. Have faith and we'll all be singing "This is how we do it" come Sunday.

    Julio Jones Tonight

"Seein' me and Julio down by the end zone..." CornJulio...I need TD for my roto-team.

    Lance Long

Like I said with 2 guys on a bye and deep benches in a 12 teamer, there aren't that many options. I have Schilens, but what do you have numbers-wise to convince me that he'll even see the field, let alone catch a pass from one of the worst QBs this decade. Sure they are playing the Chiefs, but I'll believe that Chaz is the answer to all that ails the Raiders when I see it with my own eyes. I saw what Long is capable of in Haley's offense and know that if and when they get into the red zone that he has the sneaky quicks to find a seam and score a TD. And if not, 7 catches for 70 yards is still decent production for a WR3 in a non-PPR league. For most owners in our league, they'd take 3 receptions for 70 yards from their WR3 on most weeks. Same points. And no, I'm not just playing out the season at this point. I'm top 3 in both record and points and pride myself on finding those diamonds in the rough every week, especially when byes throw me a curve. This week, I just have a feeing for Long. (Actually I do like Schilens to flash his stuff as well, just don't have the confidence with Russell at QB). Of course we could see another offensively anemic 13-10 game like the first meeting between these two teams, but I'm willing to take my chances with a team that is looking to throw the ball early and often. I'll be back after Sunday to answer to my opinions, good or bad.

    Lance Long

I am and with confidence. We start 3 WR/TE's and I have a couple guys on byes. Deep benches in my 12 team league and the fact that there aren't as many consistent players at WR this year, have me intrigued with Long. I feel he's at least worth a start this week (the last of the bye weeks) against a team that throttles the #1 WR. Chambers on the other side doesn't thrill me. And Oakland is softer in the middle, so Long should be able to operate. By the way, I'm not in a PPR league, but if I was I'd feel even more confident starting him this week.

I am boycotting the movie..."The Blind Side"

Ditto. I know most of you are against reading anything longer than a thread on a website, but I highly recommend this book to any and all folks who call themselves football fans. A terrific read all around. As for the movie, I'll wait for it to hit my big screen.

    Ray Rice.........

That's OK...I prefer to go with a play on a rice product... Ray Rice-A-Runi
  8. IMHipp

    Ray Rice.........

How about Brady, Deangelo, Rice, TJones (flex)...oh and throw in Colston and Nicks to boot. Not a bad day, eh?
  9. IMHipp

    Ray Rice.........

Exactly...who better are you going to get for him? Did you see the way he shredded through the "tough run defense" of Minnesota. And PPR or not, 117 yards receiving is 117 yards receiving, no matter how you slice it. McGahee...7 carries, 3 yards...um...

    Chaz Schilens is back!

Would you rather have the #4 or #5 WR on a really good team or a #1 on possibly the crappiest team of the decade. In other words, is Schilens, now that he's back at practice, worth a taking a flyer on?

    Steven Jackson's Handcuff

SJax is handcuffed by the rest of the St Louis offense. I'm in a very deep league with larger than normal benches and not once has anyone even tried to think about guessing on a handcuff for Jackson, including the Jackson owner himself. bluesrams2 hits the nail on the head on this one.

    Benching Brady

Thanks guys... I think you are correct. I didn't plan on drafting McNabb after nabbing Brady in the 2nd round, but he fell way too far and I was able to get him before 3 other teams had QB's, leaving them scrambling for the Matt's of the world. At the time it was a "trade bait" move, but then McNabb went down with an injury. I'm hoping they both shine this week and I'll be able to get something big for Brady, then pick up Kolb (now that the Eagles have had their bye). Of course there's a certain dog lover to concern myself with if I go this route. Still though, I'm firmly entrenched in my decision to go with McNabb over Brady this week.

    Benching Brady

"NEVER BENCH YOUR STUDS", I know. But is Brady truly a stud this week going against as stingy a pass defense as there is in Denver. Whereas McNabb, granted coming back from an injury, faces Tampa Bay. Am I stupid, an idiot, messed in the head...or will I be doing this and this and this and of course this come Sunday. And I also know that this sort of belongs on the Help board, but I don't need help (maybe some of the psychiatric kind after Sunday) in making this decision. This is more of a topic of when do you bench your studs. This I feel could be a classic example of when to do just that.

Worst Fantasy Football Year by far!

While injuries do play a part - in players like Sims-Walker's and Garcon's case at least - I think teams realize the season is a long haul and to keep their studs fresh for the back end of the season and playoffs they need to use everyone on their roster. This really speaks to the RBBC phenomenon that's taken over almost the entire league this season. Save for maybe a handful of teams, most teams are using two and sometimes three RB's, so numbers will be spread amongst the masses, rather than upon one stud player. I do remember a few years back that by this time of the year most WR2's were out-pointing their WR1 teammates (Housh over 85, Walter over AJ and the like) on a number of teams, but by the 2nd half of the season the WR1's kicked it into high gear. So, no panic as the better talent usually rises as the season progresses.

anyone have the stones to bench Colston?

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/features/...=33801&pg=3 The one difference with the Moss/AJ comparison is that Moss and AJ were the only threats...there was no Welker and no Walter. With the Saints flying down the field with both Henderson and Meachum, Revis might need to keep tabs on them instead of sticking to Colston like glue all day. I'm playing Colston with confidence. Not expecting the world, just some solid numbers.
