Guardians of the Galaxy

Damn I hope this film lives up the the hype as I haven't heard of a sci fi (let alone a Marvel sci fi flick) getting these kind of great reviews. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes is almost unheard of for a action flick. I admit this is the only "summer" flick I really wanted to see but I never thought it would get this kind of hype. If it's this good why wait until aug 1st to release it in the weakest summer movie season in a long time? Anyway seeing it next weekend with my son I hope it lives up to the hype so far.

Any movie with Zoe Saldana as a green alien....and Bradley Cooper as a badass raccoon...just has to be good.

Just don't get the Aug 1st release date this should of been at least a July 4th release as the Jul 4th releases sucked ass this year. I realize it didn't have the build up for the coveted May release but getting kicked to august is a little odd.

The Film Industry in general is gravitating towards releasing major titles on dates that are normally not considered. March has become a solid contributor (300, Divergent, Noah). February is picking up steam after success stories like The Lego Movie. In most places, school is still out in early August. It's about time that someone tried to shove a major release in there, cause I think the historical bad business comes from lack of content - not demand.

For what it's worth, Guardians of the Galaxy was originally slated for May 16th. We got Godzilla instead with XMen: DOFP a week later. Amazing Spiderman 2 was just two weeks before. Competition is a major factor in the shuffling of release dates. It was probably a spacing thing for Marvel as well...Captain America 2 was an April release. There's also "title's" to consider. It may say "August", but "Biggest August Opening of All Time" sure sounds nice.

Guardian projections are at $66 Million, but I've scheduled for a massive weekend, so hopefully it delivers! I'm banking on $90+ Million.

July sucked hard. Mostly due to Fast 7 vacating I suppose. This summer was also missing a Pixar movie which was disappointing. Last year, July 4th had Despicable Me 2 going for it. Earth to Echo just couldn't compare.

you know you are a focking geek when you think about (or care about) release dates. Never ever ever been on my radar.

And I've never even heard of Guardians of the Galaxy.

So I don't even see the hype

That's a typical misconception.

I love my job. Watching free movies in advance with infinite popcorn and soda is a nice perk. It's a stable industry and my salary is more than enough to satiate my material desires. I've got good insurance and a growing nest egg. Hundreds of hot chicks walk in my doors every day and I only see my boss once a month. I get three weeks paid vacation every year and I make my own schedule. Not too shabby. :music_guitarred:

Hah, I'm a General Manager at a Movie Theatre! Not something that one really aspires to, but I'm only 28. My theatre is relatively average, but GMs at busier locations make six figures. If I'm going to stick with this path, I'm avoiding that, though. I'd aim for a Corporate Job most likely. The Film Buyer position always intrigued me. They negotiate with distributors and assign film prints to individual theatres. The attend private advance screenings so that they can properly place them in favorable markets.

Wow. Just wow. Loved this movie. The best Marvel movie yet. Hands down. Laughed my arse off and the 3D is worth it.

The final credit scene killed me. It's humor, not plot but a certain Marvel character makes an appearance.

looks dumb as fock

Oh good, yet another super hero movie

Don't let my personal opinion or critic scores change your old-man disposition against all things fun. ^_^

This movie is basically Star Wars with 70s & 80s music.

I didn't check out what other actors were in it besides the main characters and was blown a way when focking Michael Rooker (Merle - Walking Dead) has a significant role.

Pretty diverse cast I must say:

Chris Pratt

Zoe Saldana

Vin Diesel

Bradley Cooper

Dave Bautista

Michael Rooker

Merle Streep

John C. Reily

Djimon Hounsou

Benicio Del Toro

Lee Pace (Hobbit)

Karen Gillan (Doctor Who)

She did a pretty nice photo shoot recently...probably NSFW.

She could be vomit yellow for all I care

Was looking further into this and it's directed by the same guy who did Super and Movie 43. Super was pretty damned disturbing, and not necessarily in a good way. Haven't seen Movie 43 but I've heard it is just awful.

So I'm now back on the fence

Well Rotten tomatoes had it at 100% now its a 90% with 99% approval from audience.

Everything I have heard it blows avengers away as the best Marvel movie ever. In a summer where every big movie has either sucked or been meh. GOTG seems to be a lock for blockbuster of the year before it even comes out officially.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was REALLY good. But, I think this will be the best movie this summer.

Really excited for what this franchise reboot is becoming. Extremely well done so far.

Wonder how many they will do...everything I can find only says that "another sequel" is planned. Has to be more than a trilogy, right? :dunno:

I think it could go like 5 or 6 legitimately. Certainly off to a great start. I just think it will become a tedious plot where each movie is essentially the same just with bigger and bigger battles.

Saw it last night with the kids. IMO the best of the Marvel movies so far -- granted I only really liked Iron Man I and Avengers of the lot before this. Still the best movie this summer -- again granted the summer movies this year have been awful. Chris Pratt sure has taken off he has now been the lead in the 2 biggest money making films of the year Lego Movie and now this one will be the highest grossing.

If you're looking for a good fun movie to go see this is basically a can't miss.

He's also rumored to be the main candidate for a Knight Rider movie. He's definitely the next big thing in Hollywood and I've got no objections. The dude has talent - relatable and hilarious.

Saw it with my sons. My 7 yr old loved it. My wife and I thought it was meh, and my 5 yr old was bored as soon as his popcorn and sour patch kids ran out.

I was expecting much better based the hype.

Granted, it's an action flick, but the story isn't all that interesting.

Worth a rental I guess.

The movie was amazing and the cast was excellent. Pratt is a real good story. Hes basically the dumpy, pudgy sidekick in everything but now hes ripped and a great leading man. Gonna be in another huge movie jurassic world next year.

All four of us loved it. Was not really looking forward to it but happy to see a movie with the kids knowing they would (probably) like it

Was beyond my expectations.

Top 2 or 3 of all the Marvel movies thus far. I'm normally bleh when it comes to 3d, but the visuals on IMAX 3D were unreal. Drax, Rocket and Groot made this movie. Perfect mix of personalities. And all you 1%ers..get used to it. They could drag this out for another 5 years if they wanted with similar success...all leading up to the battle with Thanos. Curious to see if they pull Silver Surfer back into the mix. He was a key part of the comic story line.

I'd say it's a definite possibility. The Fantastic Four reboot comes out June 19th, 2015. The sequel is slated for July 14th, 2017. Avengers 3 (Thanos) is likely to be released in 2018, so I'm sure the surfer will be teased at the end of the first one and featured in the second one. The new cast is...interesting...hope it works out! No reason to doubt Marvel these days.

Considering Fox has the Fantastic Four distribution rights, and Silver Surfer was in the last F4 movie, I'm guessing Disney can't use him.

Same reason Spiderman won't show up in the Avengers movies.

Those rights expired and reverted to Marvel, thus the reboot coming next year. See my post right before yours.

I'm almost positive that the Silver Surfer rights came back with the Fantastic Four rights. Can't find anything specific on that though.

Company Credits

The reboot is being made so Fox doesn't lose the rights.

Marvel still has a stake in the film, but F4 is Fox, as is X-Men. Spiderman is Sony. Pretty much everything else is Disney.

Well damn. Guess I wasn't paying too much attention, then.

I thought Fantastic Four came back with Blade, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Daredevil, Elektra...

Completely ruins my interest in that reboot then. Bah.

Wow. If you meant no reason to doubt Marvel/movies did a good job with Iron Man 1 (and maybe this Guardians, haven't seen it)...

...and nothing else... I might agree with you.
