Montee Ball headed to Dallas?

Recommended Posts

that story cites an unsubstantiated tweet. there's not even an "anonymous highly-placed source" mentioned. at this point, any and every RB move is going to cause reporters to talk about DAL. any way you slice it, we're talking about 3 established guys who know the system, vice a guy off the street. it would take at least 3-4 weeks for the guy to get carries.

it bears watching, but i wouldn't risk anything.

I speculated about this at the end of my Non-PPR Big Board; it makes too much sense. If the Boys has any sense, they'll wait until after 4 pm today and roll the dice Denver releases him. I'd think the only legit competition Dallas will have for his services is Houston.

I dumped Karlos Williams for him in the one big-money draft I've done so far.

It could be Ball or anyone with RB next to their name. Things are all shaking out today/tomorrow. Especially for owners who gambled on Randle: this is the moment of truth in whether or not that risk will pay off.

Even if Dallas gets Ball, i just dont think it matters. Joseph Randle is a far superior rb with the ball in his hands. Montee has never looked good at all. I dont think the Dallas Oline would even help him unless he is force fed 20 carries a game.

Ball isn't good enough to threaten Randle or McFadden even if they add Ball to that group. Ball is strictly name value at the moment.

The Ball of 2013 IS good enough to beat both guys out, but obviously we aren't there right now. I knew better than to rank Ball so highly having experienced an appendectomy myself early last year, but decided to trust the fact that pro athletes have some of the best medical people in the country in their corner. There is no doubt in my mind he rushed himself last year and, thus, couldn't stay healthy. In this preseason, he looked slow and sluggish. The drop-off has been so significant from what I've seen from Ball before (and how he was moving around before camp) that it makes me wonder if he's trying to play his way off the Broncos or just doesn't care anymore. It also looks to me he added weight, but that is pure speculation on my part.

Either way, I don't doubt the Boys are having trade talks for Ball; as I said earlier, it made too much sense. With that said, Dallas could easily go in another direction with roster cuts today and pick up a Raijon Neal or Michael Dyer type, perhaps trying to call the Broncos' bluff since it looks like Denver could be keeping Ball (or trying to give that impression). If we see the 2013 version of Ball sometime in the next couple of months, he'll beat out Randle and McFadden. If he's lost his fire, he might end being a camp body for a year or two more before fading out of the league.

In the end, it's still worth a fantasy roster move as far as I'm concerned, especially in leagues with 18-man rosters like mine. After all, it was one year ago that C.J. Anderson was the back that looked too heavy in Broncos' camp.

No but this guy might be. He's a tough runner between the tackles, specializing in power running. Has a timed 4.50 forty to go with his size. And has played well in the passing game for Cleveland. I would COMPLETELY discount anything that jack-ass-hat of a coach had to say about him, as Pettine has done his best to ruin every running back on that team's confidence. I mean, what kind of focking idiot rotates running backs every other play like a bush league high school coach? Anyway, West is a former third round pick who the Ravens were high on as well.

I still think McFadden is who you want if healthy. I loved Ball coming out Wisconsin, but it's always something with him (just like DMC!) Ball is worth a cheap shot.

I feel sorry for anybody who drafted Randle around the 4th round, but he did have plenty of unimpressive NFL tape up to now.
