Did not realize we were actually starting the day keepers and menu were due. Assumed a monday start but im sure I glossed over the schedule.

Luckily first round is just whoever vara doesn't take so I'll have a little time to do some prep :D

Yeah, wanted to make sure we had a bit of breathing room to complete the draft. The 3/29 start date (I think) is unusually sooner than usual.

I will pump the keepers into the draft sheet as soon as possible after 3pm. As you noted, the first couple of rounds tend to be trade free and no keepers land that high, so I should have a little time to get that in without affecting draft decisions.

And we're off! Added Godfather's keepers to the draft sheet. FoulLine had texted indicating he was going to look over lunch, but apparently that got sidetracked.

Good luck to everyone in the draft - glad to finally reach this point!

OK, we are underway.

Was semi-surprised to see Votto go ahead of Goldschmidt. Ramirez at 7 was also a surprise. Interesting start ...

I have a really good feeling about Ramirez and I like his multi-position eligibility

Once you get past Trout and Altuve, the rest of the top 24 could go in almost any order and turn out to be a winning combo. The typical 3-4 elite tiers you see are pretty blurry this season.

Can't complain about getting the reigning HR champ and the AL Cy Young winner with my first two picks.

I was wondering if I might have a chance at Donaldson at a discount due to his counting stats being off from missing time.... but his 2017 second half was great and he's playing for a contract, so I feel comfortable rolling the dice.

Or maybe I'm banking on a fading blue Jay star for the 2nd year in a row and I'll be passing on someone who hits 56 hone runs and gets selected a few pics after :D

If interested, I've populated the keepers and all selections up to this point into the Yahoo site.

This allows you to look at the player list for an accurate reflection of who is available.

I knew he'd never get back to me, but he's definitely a guy I would have liked to chance on. Good pick, IMO.

Great job everybody! Just a tad past 24 hours, and we are already bound for the 4th round!

Goldschmidt-I know about the humidifier snafu going in at Chase Field, and Goldy is at the dreaded 30-year mark, ...but I liked the idea of a safe pick there at 1.08.

Machado-My projection sheets screamed out--TAKE THIS GUY! But he strikes out too much, and I already had Jake Lamb qualifying at 3B. So, ...not long after I decided that Rizzo's 2B eligibility, and fewer K's was the SMART CHOICE, ...Alex/Kysar texted me "Took a 2B", ...I thought "No way, ...not my beloved Cubbie!" So, I had to take Manny after all. I hope it works out.

Bregman-Again, I was struggling between 2 possible picks. Breg and Rhys Hopkins. This time, ...despite the allure of such a GREAT player with a limited record of success, ...I decided that Bregman's SS eligibility was best for my squad. Ted solidified that decision by taking Rhys anyway. Happy to have a solid SS this early, ...although I have THREE guys already, ...who qualify at 3B. Yikes! :nono:

Pretty sweet deal getting Goldy at 8. I thought about Rizzo with my 2nd pick, but placed a higher value on getting one of the (hopefully) elite SPs. You scooped me on Bregman if it makes you feel any better. Wanted that 3B/SS eligibility as I didn't have either position filled yet. Always nice to open up some draft flexibility via multi-position players.

OK, I'm heading out for dinner and then some cocktails... :-) I'll check in once in a while. Feel free to text with any questions, proxies, etc. and I'll do my best to help. Have a good night!

p.s. Foul Line just checked in - he's on his way home and should be picking fairly soon. Gave Harry an early warning that his bookends should be coming up soon as well.

Yeah, I was pretty happy that Rizzo fell to me in 2nd round - love his 2B eligibility. I would have been happy with one of the elite pitchers too. The top end seems super deep this year.

Starting to re-think if I should have kept Willson Contreras for a 6th. With all of the other keepers, his value ended up getting pushed up a round.

Oh well... Not typically my thing to jump on C's in early rounds anyway.

Funny (or not so funny since I have 0 SPs), I wanted Quintana who you took 5 picks after I took Contreras. Thought Quintana might have lasted til my pick in 6th round but alas did not. Will have to sort through the SP bargain bin later on.

I know Kysar lives on the west coast, so he won't be around for a bit.

Hoping we can pick up the pace a little bit. Current pace will put us really close to opening day.

Note - I have a business trip coming up on Friday, through the weekend (yay...) and flying back home on Monday. This will be a significant distraction for me and will have me offline during flight times. I'll do my best to proxy and keep things moving, but if the timing isn't right, I may cause some unavoidable delays. Apologies in advance if that happens...

Now that I've taken him, what have I missed in my research about Arrieta? Seemed like he lingered too long as an FA in real life and he lasted here longer than I expected. I have to be missing a key fact or expert opinion on him. Is it just because he's getting a late start and may start his season late? Some injury concern?

hes been declining the last 2 seasons, which likely played a prt in taking so long to sign (along with his agent of course :D ) and he loses that Cubbies offense....

he wasn't off my radar but I wanted to go upside with my last pick and had been focused on offense previously with having 2 SP keepers.

Ah, so he's just being looked at as a guy on the decline asking for too much $ ... If he gives me what he did last season, I can live with that as my SP 4, I guess (hope).

a great SP4. If his decline continues though, with a lesser cast around him, I'm not sure how I could see him even matching last season. Though i've been wrong more often than not.

I was holding off from Arietta for similar reasons. But a lot of times, great deals can be had when the masses believe that a guy is declining, ...or just didn't have what they thought he had. Examples: Everybody seemed to think Big Poppy couldn't still get it done at age 40, I got a great deal on him for that last, amazing year. Then, ...somebody got a SWEET deal on Wil Myers (last year?), ...when it seemed like he was not quite the star he was supposed to be, ...and found himself with the dreadful Padres. Now, he is a 21st round keeper. I'm hoping that this 'reluctance' landed me good deals on McCutchen (diminishing skills?) and Hamilton (just not the star he was supposed to be). I really felt buyers remorse after the Billy Hamilton pick (he was drafted at 5.01 last year). But I'm figuring that even though he looks like crap this Spring, maybe, ...MAYBE he will exceed expectations and hit closer to .260, ...not .245, maybe strike out only 100 times and get his OBP up significantly. That could mean 70 SBs and 95 runs scored. You never know.

I sent Tucker a text since he is otc but is in class. Likely will be a bit of a delay until he is at lunch before he can pick.
