*** 80's Song Draft *** Completed

Recommended Posts

Finally! Damn straight!

You know I don't want to double up on the artist or I'd have been all over this, long, long ago.

Probably not the best draft strategy but I'm not doubling up on anyone's artist, trying to bring as much diversity(while still being relevant) to the draft as possible. There's been some damn fine 2nd songs picked too.

12:08 Fast Car - Tracy Chapman

I was listening to Brian Koppleman on a podcast the other day. He told the story of how he went to college with Tracy, heard her perform and spent 2 years trying to get her a record deal.

He said countless A&R guys came to see her live, loved her shows, complimented her then turned around and told him there was no way they could sign her since she was an ugly, black lesbo.

12:08 Fast Car - Tracy Chapman

Was always a great rainy day song........ Took me forever to believe it was actually a woman signing it.

12.10 Ah Leah - Donny Iris

Whiny, new wave vocals plus hard slamming drums and a driving guitar groove. It just focking rocks.

Ed does make great picks. Here's another.

I feel bad for giving you grief for taking rap crap. It's a popular genre so I suppose somebody who's developed the ability to differentiate between good rap songs and bad ones should feel free.

While I'm here, I love Pat Benatar and realize Love is a Battlefield is her most popular song, unfortunately, in my case, it's not one that I particularly cared for. I'm all about We Belong or Shadows of the Night.

My favorite genre and I loves me some music. Down Under was #1 for 4 consecutive weeks. (didn't look that up till after I picked)

No harm, no foul. it's all opinion

I am a hair band man, but most hair band music just doesn't cut it when it comes to "greatest"

Way too many have made this list.

Way too many have made this list.

I've been thinking "not nearly enough."

I know people don't like the genre, page three of this thread isn't the first time I've seen it, just the most recent. I can never figured out why, still sounds great to me. Poison especially draws ire but they're my favorite.

Poison was one of the better of the genre, (popularity) even though their only talent was CC Deville. The rest were ho hum and Bobby Dall is one of the worst bassists to ever be in a band that made it.

Even though they only have a 10 song set list and 2 of those are solos, they are a lot of fun live. Seen them, 9 or 10 times since 1999 (reunion)

As others have said, its all subjective. There are at least a dozen songs that have been drafted that Ive hated since they came out.

Metallica is one example for me. I like hard rock but Hetfields voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Some of this stuff just isnt music to my ears.

I know you love music as much as I do,that said IMO they had a talent in that band for a couple of years by the name of Ritchie Kotzen whose solo work is well worth checking out. Here's a sample,BTW if you do listen NSFW lyrics

Kotzen is talented, for sure. He just wasn't right for that band (and too young). You can't replace a spaz like CC, just like Motley Crue could have never replaced a sound like Mick Mars. Doesn't mean they were the greatest, they just had a distinct sound.

The best guitarist from the hair band genre, (IMHO) was a complete wasted talent in White Lion - Vito Bratta

In the Army, the black guys were all heavy into rap. Good guys, I liked them and have no complaints as people, but when the music came on - oh fock- I had to leave.

I like R&B and Motown, they weren't playing that. In fairness we weren't playing the milder, softer music either. We had the metal going loudly ourselves.
