Would love to drag the Swift boat motherfukers out into the Limelight again. Even the guys on the right in this program admitted that it was a lie. There's a smear campaign set up by Karl Rove and paid for by the right. But it worked. The one insight that I guess I didn't realize without the benefit of hindsight was that Bush was on the ropes to be sure. But it wasn't just the Swift boat that won it for him. The reality is, bad timing did it. Massachusetts legalized gay marriage in 2004 ish - Bush immediately went for DOMA and all the fundies across the country were mobilized. If anything, even after all the experts came out and admitted that the wmd was a lie. What won the election for Bush was Americans freaking out over gay marriage. The hypocrisy was so rich on that one. Kerry even brought up Cheney's daughter being gay when he was asked about gay marriage. You would have thought that would have been a slam dunk, but the GOP somehow managed to claim that was dirty pool. ------- Some of the things I remember that weren't brought up was that Bush was the first president to win without winning a single New England State. And also that he won by the lowest margin of victory of any sitting president who won an election. But that's just all mental masturbation. -------- Prolly didn't deserve all the criticism. But when you're the president that's the gig. You can't play victim to your own cabinet for 8 years.
