Why Does Todd Haley Still Have A Job?

Recommended Posts

He did absolutely NOTHING with KC. They had a mediocre at best offense with some talented players. Now, in a season and a couple of games, he's turned a solid, potent Pittsburgh offense into a vanilla, blah, wasteland.

How in the world is this joker still coaching in any sort of a important position in the NFL??

Because this is a re-tread league and most teams are too risk averse to try something new and inventive. Haley is a joke. Ben is going to just say "fock it" and start playing street ball. Actually, he already pretty much has

Haley continues to work in the NFL because of his time in Arizona in late 2007 and mainly 2008. He walked in to the perfect situation as the offensive coordinator of a very good offense. You don't really need to do much as a play caller when you have Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, and Anquan Boldin. Throw in a very good 3rd WR in Steve Breaston and veteran RB's in Edgerrin James and Tim Hightower, and you had a great offense regardless of who was coaching it.

Todd Haley sucks as a play caller, but will continue to get jobs because like handbanana said, the NFL is a re-tread league. Teams continue to often recycle coaches throughout the league, even if they haven't really done much to deserve the job. Haley's time in KC should of sealed his fate as a play caller, yet amazingly he continues to now call plays for the Steelers.

Not a fan of Haley's, but Pitt's probems are more lack of talent than scheme. Their RBs are not even good backups, much less starters. Their top two WRs are really a #2 and a #3 guy. Their #4 WR sux!. Their OL has talent, but is always hurt and even when it isn't, it doesn't play up to its talent. And their QB is a free-wheelin' improviser.

It all adds up to highly erractic play that very much tends more to the bad than the good.

Bell coming back and actually being worth a #1 pick will help. Getting a true #1 WR would be even better. And actually spending high draft picks on some OL who play like it would be great.

Until then, whoever the OC is, it doesn't matter.

I also think their problem is they cant keep their starters in the lineup.

Bell missed games due to injury and/or suspension.

Bryant missed time due to suspension

Green(TE) missed time due to injury.

Big Ben missed 2 game this year and 4 the year before.

I would argue all are playmakers in this offense to varying degrees.

the only consistently healthy starter has been Antonio Brown. (antonio only missed 1 game this year)

I havnt gone through the line injuries (or lack therof) I'm only looking at playmakers.

Not defending Haley. Just providing info.

Check, check, check, check........hoping Haley sticks around another year at least.

Next season if they have the big 3 back and then get a healthy Green, a healthy Coates and a sober Bryant (and a continued healthy Oline). They will break some offensive records next year

Thomas Jones would start ahead of Bell if he was on the roster. Haley is the worst coach in the world.

I'm really impressed with the play of that offensive line. They were the difference against Miami.

Well, this is a line that you really cant use metrics to determine their effectiveness in pass blocking. Rothlisberger is a mobile, running QB who buys time with his feet and doesnt generally take sacks. As a result, he makes his line look better on the metrics for pass blocking.

To be frank the best way to determine if this line has played well (or not) is to actually watch the games, and see for yourself.

That being said, I watched part of the Miami game and they looked good for the part of the game I did watch.

Dolphins only had 33 sacks during the season.

I'm not sure that you can evaluate the Steelers Oline play vs the Dolphins def.

also a valid point. tough to evaluate properly when the opponent isnt all that good.

Ben and mobile have not gone together since his rookie year.

The steeler online for years were giving up top 3 in sacks with that same younger "mobile" qb
