I like each of those guys this year. During my mocks I have had the opportunity to draft each of these dudes. In one mock, I wasn't paying complete attention and drafted all 3! Whoops!!!

 

The thought arose in my head, normally I don't like drafting multiple guys from the same team, though, I'm aware that stacking in some cases works out ok.

 

My question is, does anyone have any opinions or have any strategy Processes I'm missing if I were to take Diggs in like the 5th or 6th, then Rudolph in like the 7th or 8th round? Not because I'm targeting, but more because they fall in that range and happen to be guys I like. Would it be detrimental to do this? Diggs or Cook wouldn't be my everyweek starter, but Rudolph would.

Thoughts? Please? With sugar on top? I'll be your best friend!!!!!

Two WR's from the same team only causes problems.

 

1) bye weeks are all the same and typically most leagues start 2 or 3 WR meaning a roster containing 4 or 5 WR's is typical.

 

with two WR's from the same team that makes it a whole lot harder to cover bye weeks for that position. AND you dont want any of your other WR to have the same bye week.

 

2) the WR position is not the most stable for fantasy points. your WR can have a bad game because they played poorly, or because the QB played poorly. Two ways to have low scores.

 

now add a second WR from the same team. Assuming you are starting both, you set yourself up for an awful lot of risk. Yes, the rewards can be double if you face a weak team or weak Defense, but this is only a strategy I'd employ in exceptional cases. for me, that's a QB who is expected to throw for 4700+ yards. Not many QB's fit into that category.

 

as for the other option, if you have a RB and WR from the same team, you dont open yourself up to quite the same problems. the bye week problem isnt so bad because its one slot for each position. That's doable. and typically (but not always) a poor game from the WR does not always mean a poor game for the Rb and vice versa. you still are tying your fate to that of the team as a whole to some degree, but not as badly as taking two WR from the same team.

I did it a few years ago with Nelson, Rogers and Lacy. Wasn't planning on it, but it's just the way the draft fell. I did win that year.

 

Last year I had Allen, Gates, Woodhead and Rivers. The first 3 were out with injuries by week 3. Probably has an effect on Rivers. Didn't work out for me. Not sure how you predict injuries though.

I really like Diggs, so if I pass on Rudolph(who I like, because he was a target monster on his team last year) I was looking at Ertz.

 

Leads into next question: How high are other folks in Ertz? I really like him. Are there any glaring problems with him that I may be missing?

you are also looking at an all star QB who never gets hurt tossing them the ball. This is one of the few situations where I'd consider doing this.

 

you were essentially tying your fate to that of one of the most potent offenses in NFL history. Not a bad gamble really.

Side note but I think it's worth noting that guys like Cooks, Rudolph, Diggs and Thielan are all being drafted as either starters or depth but I haven't seen anyone mention Bradford...the guys that is going to get them the ball.

 

Could he have an Andy Dalton like year as a surprisingly high end QB 2?

Disagree, but it has to be the right team. There are 10+ QBs in the league going to pass for over 4K yards. The top 2 from most of them will be anywhere from 150-1800-8 to 180-2500-18. Usually if one is down the other will be up so you have a built in handcuff.

There are 2 questions to be answered here.

 

1. Having 2 WR from same team. I have done this before. Can be great, if the offense is productive. If you evaluate which is the best start every week.

2. Does the Vikings offense merit this consideration this year.

 

To expand on item 1. When I have had a pair from same team. I have been most successful when I start the consistent scoring guy over the splashy guy. Note the splashy guy always seems to be ranked higher, and may eventually have better overall year stats. A solid chance at a TD and 75 yards is the way to go.

 

To elaborate on item 2. Issue with the Vikings isn't the QB, the RB nor the WR/TE.

It is the offensive line. Biggest weakness during the current coaching regime has been offensive line. Several reason for it. Partly I believe the O-line coach is a moron. GM has not been smart about drafting 1-2 solid O-linemen a year (which is what is required in this league). Combine these two things and you are left with an O-line that performed as it did last season.

BTW, for the second season in a row, too many injuries to that O-line in the preseason. This with a different collection of Oline players.

 

 

I would say, go for 2 wr from same team, just maybe not the vikes. Not at least if you are expecting them to start every week

Having multiple players from the same team really only works when you are talking a top 3 type offense. Don't think Minn fits the bill. Gl.
