Ben Tate

Recommended Posts

Seems Ben Tate will be signing with the browns some point soon seemingly on an incentive laden deal.

What are everyone's expectations for him? Plenty of questions marks re the browns currently, mainly who the QB will be week 1. They could have a decent Def and they have flash gordon to keep the Def honest. If they get someone serviceable he could be a decent RB 2. I think the contract could be the key though. It could give him plenty of reasons to run hard.

I am not hugely knowledgeable on the browns so maybe someone could educate me on his outlook?

Injury prone talent on bad team

McFadden afc central version

I have read my share of debate on here about injury prone players, and whether injury prone should be a concern. Well I am really starting to head the injury prone tag more than I have been in the past. The really injury prone players like Nicks, Mcfadden, Tate, Bradshaw, Cutler etc are missing games every single year. It sucks when you have these players on your team.

Ben Tate landed in the best spot possible, I would probably let someone else pay the price that he is going to command.

I love that he went to the Browns. Best possible landing spot. Also, great situation for my dynasty team. Had him and Foster for years and now they'll both be starters.

McCoy

Stacy

Foster

Tate

Hopefully, the Eagles trade Bryce Brown to a good spot as well and he takes off.

I just saw an owner in one of my dyansty leagues trade Tate for Woodhead and the 1.09 in the rookie draft. I'm not big on injury prone players either, but this seems like a fire sale to me. Someone would have surely paid more than that....

^ I think Woodheads value got hurt losing whizzy and by bringing in brown but he was a borderline rb1-2 in PPR last year.

That plus 1.09 doesn't seem too far off to me.

My concern with Tate lies with the Clevland offense.

The past 3 seasons as a team they have scored 4-12-4 tds.

The 12 season with Richardson.

TRich was a 1st round pick after one year with the Browns. I'm liking Tate's situation.

If he had spent the entire year with the browns last year his value would be one of the lowest for a starting rb.

I'm expecting the Browns to run some kind of RBBC, which will hurt Taye's value event in the unlikely event he can stay on the field.

They have been more of a main carry rb type of offense. Even mcgahee was racking up big carry totals.

This all depends on his health, if by some miracle he puts in 14-15 games the upside is there. I am encouraged by the way he played through the rib injury.

Kyle Shanahan turned Alfred Morris into something. I had never heard of him before his breakout in Shanny's offense. I think Tate has much more talent. If he can stay healthy, and the Browns can find a guard in the draft then he'll be a great RB2.

the big picture here is that Tate going ANYWHERE for a starting RB gig was going to vault his fantasy value. And Cleveland isn't a half bad situation. Have to see what they do at QB and if they shore up the line a little but with Gordon and Cameron in the passing game, a competent QB should allow some running lanes.

where else could he have gone where us fantasy fanatics would be more excited? Giants instead of Jennings? Miami instead of Moreno? Not many spots out there for RB1

TEN, CAR, NO, NYJ... Just to name a few.

Cleveland will ruin your life.

We will see. I am not going to write cleveland off before the season starts. Car still has a bunch of rbs and NO is the biggest rbbc team beside NE.

Ten = Chris Johnson still in town. Tate likely not going to sign there without knowing for sure CJ would be cut.

Car??? umm not with Stewart, D-Will, Tolbert and Cam scoring rushing TD's and all the $$ they have already invested in the position.

NO.... maybe if they truely change their philosophy but they already resigned Thomas so I don't see that as a great fit with Ingram and Thomas in the fold.

NYJ would have likely been a good destination as Tate is clearly better than Powell and offers more versatility than Ivory.

i'll give you 1/4. Still, fantasy production is all about skill+opportunity. there are not many opportunities right now for starting RB's. An opportunity in Cleveland is just as good as anywhere else Tate might have found an opportunity.

I think Cleveland is going to be a bit better than people expect. I like what they're doing there except that they fired most everyone after one year, which, granted, is a big red flag. IMO they should've given Chudzinski, Lombardi, etc. another year or two to turn that team around.

I agree the Browns will be better than people expect. If they can get a legit qb, which i have my doubts hoyer is, they could be a very dangerous team.

I'll give you they should have kept Chudzinski, but Lombardi and Banner should have never been hired in the first place. Those two had to go.

Look guys, on paper and logically Tate to CLE makes sense. But I lived near that miserable city for over ten years. It will suck the life right out of you. The drunken fans, the consistent smog/cloud cover, the negativity, the losing in 3 major sports year after year. It is difficult to be around my best of friends sometimes. Of course, there are exceptions ie.) Gordan last season... But Tate and anyone who plays for that team is going against the grain in order to be successful in the league.

wasn't t-rich a more than viable fantasy option in 2012?

all im saying is, any RB going to a situation where they will be the main guy should have fantasy owners taking notice. those opportunities are few and far between right now.

 I drafted Tate his rookie year in a league and have been waiting patiently for this. Not thrilled it is Cleveland, but it could have been much worse.

FF Geek is right: lead RB, even on a bad team, usually has fantasy value, and potentially a good amount. Think Shonn Greene with the Jets. He stunk, they stunk, but he was still a useful fantasy RB.

So far Tate seems to be drafted fairly low in fantasy, so there's some value there I think.

All it will take is one nice run in preseason to bring his value to second round.

I agree. I see his value in 3rd round right now, but he probably will end up in 2nd round in most draft close to season.

Say what you will about Cleveland RB's that were drafted (William Green, Trent Richardson, Lee Suggs etc); they were terrible. But, for some reason the Browns have had success with rb's they've picked in FA/trade:

2005-Reuben Droughns- 1,250 yds rush

2007-Jamal Lewis-1,300 yds rush

2008-Jamal Lewis- 1,000 yds rush

2010-Peyton Hillis- 1,200 yds rush

These rb's all have a similar skillset to Ben Tate in that they are physical runners who can find the end zone and compete in the AFC North. None of them were in a timeshare either. The same holds true for Tate. His major concern is durability, but IF he can stay healthy I don't know why he can't put up 1,200/6 and 40/350/2. Pretty good rb2 with upside. There just aren't a lot of backs that get 75% of touches for a team nowadays and at this moment (before the draft) there is absolutely no one to steal carries from Ben Tate. He has every opportunity to be a bell cow back, which is rare in this day and age.
