God bless em. They are trying to make moves both signing veteran QB's today. Sad thing is they are still gonna suck next year.

I actually like the Schaub move. I mean seriously, not really concerned with getting a franchise QB at this point. This team needs to be almost built from scratch, QB is the least of concern. Not thrilled they haven't been able to lure the best FAs, REALLY wanted Verner the kid from TN and thought they had him locked with all that cash. The multitude of first round busts and poor free agent signings this team has had in the last ten years has equated to being given the death penalty. The JaCarcass Russell pick set this franchise back five years.

I agree the shaub signing isnt that bad and will help the team. What i dont agree with is qb not being a priority. If a team has a gaping hole at qb, it should be the only position a team really tries for. A franchise qb can instantly make a mediocre - bad team an instant playoff contender.

Qbs usually have long careers so while your team may have big defficiencies at other positions, once you have the qb there is time to build the franchise around him.

Russell wilson and nick foles were both third round draft picks that any team could have had. Dalton was a later round pick also. If i am a franchise in need of qb i draft a first round qb with one of these guys in the mid rounds. Its better than the bust d lineman or safety one of these teams was going to draft in the third anyway.

I don't get all the Vick hate. We signed a more talents qb than Sanchez for half the price who has a similar skill set to Geno.

Jets can build one offense now and have both qbs compete in camp. Something anyone but Vick wouldn't have provided.

I think Oakland signing shaub means they don't see any of the qbs as lock franchise types.

This class is somewhere between luck-rg3 and ponder-Gabbert-locker.

isnt beernuts a fan of a team who has been a laughingstock themselves?

i hate vick. focking hate the guy. piece of trash. but from a football standpoint, the move to cut sanchez and bring in vick was as solid as anything else we were going to do at QB. Geno has a strong arm and showed a little improvement toward the end of last season so maybe vick can come in and push him. nothing earth shattering here.

schaub deal seems good for oakland too. 5th round pick right? guy can win footballs games.

Laughing stock is probably a bit extreme. Disappointing? Extremely.

The jets did go to two afc title games not too long ago, but what rexy did to the image of that team and to the locker room was flat out embarrassing. Their last gm didnt do them any favors either.

What's your take on what Rex did? From the local media every player seems to love playing for the guy.

Yeah because he let everyone shoot their mouths off with no dicipline. Of course they want to play for him. Just because players like him doesnt mean he is a good coach. He treated every chance he had in front of the camera like a circus act.

And i also believe the lack of dicipline reflected on the field.

Word ok I feel that. It was a circus for a while. The entire organization has taken a different tone since Idzik has taken over.

The old Jet's facility under Tanenbaum was essentially open 24-7 to the media....the place is now on lock down.

All reports of Jet's signings have been released by the team. The media has been largely in the dark and I think that's a good thing.

sorry man. i don't think you fully know what you're talking about here. then again, a lot of people who are not Jets fans have views largely driven by the media.

Rex's players enjoy playing for him. Has he done some stupid things? yeah... flipping the bird on camera, the foot video thing. Those were two bad ones. I actually don't care at all about his tattoo that everyone obsesses over. Guy was on vacation and has a tat of his wife in a 6 jersey.

The "circus" the Jets became known for from 2011-2013 was created by Woody and Tannenbaum. Rex is certainly not free of blame but look at all the bad contracts Tannenbaum handed out. We are just now shedding them under Idzik. rex also wanted no part of Tebow-mania. that was a Tannenbaum and Woody Johnson move.

Holmes was a cancer. He was benched. Now hes gone and yet to sign anywhere else.

Woody johnson is a terrible owner, imo. I think he cared too much about besting the Giants as talk of the town. Hence all the splashy moves (holmes, tomlinson, jason taylor... then tebow).

When Tannenbaum was there they also let Revis walk all over them. Look what a good move it was to trade him. No one wanted to pay him 16 mil

Well its good to hear they are turning around their franchise. I dont dislike the jets, i just hate when teams get horribly mismanaged. I would love to run an nfl franchise, if i had the time to learn the intricacies of course. It seems a lot of nfl brass dont have a clue and never learn from their mistakes. For a bit the jets looked like they were really heading in that direction, especially from two afc title appearences.

The one thing i still dont like is geno smith. I dont think he is a franchise qb, so when a team pegs a qb as their future and it doesnt work out, its a huge set back.

I like vick for the team, unfortunately when he leaves and geno gets his turn i dont think its going to bring the team any closer to becoming a consistent winner.

i disagree. there is no way vick does anything for the jets at all . if geno is the guy play him . vick will not even play in that many games the guy always gets hurt . there is no way he is even close to being a great or good or even a solid pick up .. he does nothing at all to help the jets for the furture at the qb postion .

and with that said i do not see geno being that qb either .

i agree and disagree with the bolded part of your statement. At this time, I don't think Geno is a franchise QB. However, the Jets did not draft him in the first round. They did not trade up to get him. They drafted a corner and D end and when they came on the clock in round 2, Geno was sitting in their laps. With Sanchez regressing, I can't blame them for drafting Geno if he was their highest rated player left or even just their highest rated QB. It was more of a luxury pick at that point.

I don't view Geno all that differently from a lot of the young QB's that came out recently. Only Luck and Wilson look like true franchise guys at this point. Sure guys like Stafford and RG3 are very talented but what have they really shown? RG3 already creating problems with his ego in washington. Locker? Freeman? Cam looks like he is turning the corner in terms of maturity so I think he could prove to be a franchise guy. Manuel? Glennon?

at the very least, Geno has a strong arm and can make things happen with his legs. Its just the mental maturity at this point that is lacking.

As time draws closer, seems more are questioning just how strong this QB class is> Deep? Sure. Some high ceiling guys? Maybe. But come draft day I think people are going to be shocked when QB's don't come rolling off the board early. I could see a moribund franchise taking a shot at Manziel, but I think teams are realizing that you'll be able to get comparable QB upside/physical ability in rounds 3-5.

I really liked what I saw of Bortles, but as a GM, am I that sure that he's going to pan out better than the Mettenger (sp?) kid from LSU? Better than Carr? And those guys will come much later.

I agree that all these QBs have issues and you could possibly do better with a later round QB like Fales, Boyd, or Logan Thomas. With the depth available at the position and the lack of the sure thing I think that you will see a huge fall in the draft for the top part of the QB class.

qb is tricky. i honestly think geno will start more games in new york than vick will this season. partly because he has the talent if he can put it together, but also partly because vick is declining and seemingly injured a lot. as for oakland, they gave up very little to acquire schaub and have a ton of cap room anyway, so i don't think his acquisition means much of anything regarding their intentions to draft (or not) a qb this year. schaub is arguably better than their current qbs, so he'd be a better starting option than what they currently have. but then he's also a solid enough guy that he'd probably be a good mentor to a young qb without a lot of ego issues.

i also agree with the general sentiment that qb is becoming a draft-devalued position. that doesn't mean you can't get a 'franchise' qb in the draft, it just means they're not necessarily going to be in the top handful of picks. the new CBA really clamped down on rookie contracts. in the past, the only "position" that was worth a top-of-first-round salary was QB. now, really, most positioins are worth the salary associated with a high pick. so the pressure to take qb at top of draft, from a $ point of view, is gone.

Just read the news: "Speaking Tuesday, Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg said Geno Smith will begin the offseason as the Jets' No. 1 quarterback.".

Here is how I see it will play out: Vick will start the season for Jets until he's hurt and Geno will take over. Both are very risky plays. But I do see Jets will improve as a team.

When a team has a defensive line as talented as the jets defensive line i don't think they should be considered a joke. They are one of the better defenses in the NFL just about every season since Rex took over. They finished 8-8 last year not 4-12. The offense needs work but it is definitely better than it was last year at this time and they still have 12 picks in the draft. They also have a ton of cap space heading into the 2015 season. Is Geno the answer at QB? I don't think so but he did show improvement over the last 4 or 5 games last season so I'm willing to take a wait and see approach.

its more the media that drives the notion of the Jets as a joke. And its sometimes warranted. The Tebow thing was a self created circus and deserved every bit of criticism. But pwoplw lose sight of the fact that since the Parcells days, this team makes the playoffs at roughly a 50% clip which is better than a lot of teams in the league can say. plus its not just one and done, there are 3 trips to the AFC title game in that span.

You're right in that they've brought some of it on themselves, but also that the emdia loves to hype them as dysfunctional. I thought last season was Ryan';s best as a HC, and I believe they have plenty of talent on defense. I just don't believe in their QB choices and I don't know who that falls on.
