Allowing eliminated teams to perform transactions

I'm sure this has been discussed in the past and possibly this year somewhere else. Do you guys not allow teams which are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention to add/drop? We don't allow them to trade, but them adding and dropping with a better priority than playoff teams also seems wrong.

Trade, no. But our high points prize goes to week 16 in our league so they can still add/drop

No trades but still need to at least fill out a roster. They can effect playoff races if they tank.

 

We went to rolling waivers a few years ago.....we like it. Makes you gameplan and save your waiver priority a little.

We do a payout for high points until the playoffs, so any team can make trades before the deadline and add/drop until the end of week 13.

 

Once playoffs start non-playoff teams are locked.

 

Most teams that get mathematically eliminted usually stop caring, so its typically not an issue unless top tier teams try to prey on their apathy. I personally never try and trade with eliminated teams out of principle.

I'm going to bring this up next year. We play in a high stakes money league, and have been for 15 years, but each year is completely independent. This is a great idea to keep it worth something and not just blocking the playoff teams out of spite (it happens).

Oh, it's possible. I've personally had the pleasure of fielding two 4-9 teams in 17 years who were first and second in points.

Add drop yes, trade deadline should have passed by now. Late deadlines only encourage tanking. I recommend week 8-9 at latest.

Eliminated, yes they can make moves. But when playoffs start in 14 then no moves for non-playoff teams. Of course, with varying keeper/dynasty rules mileage will vary.

Penalty is indeed needed too be installed for doing that.

 

It will eliminate that problem.

 

In my league lose points if you don't have a filled position, the points you lose is the your teams avg that your team normally scores at that position that isint filled.

 

Plus you lose cash based on your over all postion based on total points.

 

We don't have that problem i this league.

If you seriously want any eliminated teams to not be able to do trades or adds then they are limited in being competitive. Which means, that any teams scheduled to play that team moving forward have a schedule advantage over other teams who played them earlier in the year. That is not a fair way to determine the final standings.

 

If you go that route of taking options away from eliminated teams, then you may as well just remove them from any future scheduled games and figure out a new way to define the schedule from that point on.

It's the leagues fault if there are no incentives for an 8th place team to not want to be in 7th or 6th place by end of year. It doesn't take a genius imagination to come up with ways to make a team who is in 10th place with 3 weeks to go to want to finish in 9th place.

Everything said here I agree with. As a commissioner I fully expect each team to compete through the end of the season. With the toilet bowl every team gets at least 1 playoff game and in my other league where I'm sitting at 5-6 in 8th place it's now my goal to play spoiler and take down my next 2 opponents - it's all I've got to play for in that league

This is a recipe for having teams quit completely as early as week 8 or 9 even. Those eliminated teams still have to play against non eliminated teams. So those playing eliminated teams get a huge advantage that was not there before, because the eliminated teams have no reason to care the rest of the season and get bottom priority. Its these types of leagues that generate a lot of player complaints.

 

You may as well just remove the eliminated teams from the schedule if this is the case.
