Trump and McConnell in Open Warfare

Recommended Posts

Yeah, that's a good idea. Not speaking since a 'profane' shouting match (from Trump's golf course of course) two weeks ago.

Also story 'leaks' (gee? from where?) that Trump is trying to pressure congress over the Russia investigation. Turns out, pressuring Congress is ALSO considered an obstruction crime as well.

Multiple REPUBs are confirming all of this. McConnel is saying out loud he's not sure Trump can continue to serve.

If you start losing your own party - especially THE most powerful guy in Congress - not a good sign.

What was once an uneasy governing alliance has curdled into a feud of mutual resentment and sometimes outright hostility, complicated by the position of Mr. McConnell’s wife, Elaine L. Chao, in Mr. Trump’s cabinet, according to more than a dozen people briefed on their imperiled partnership.

Angry phone calls and private badmouthing have devolved into open conflict, with the president threatening to oppose Republican senators who cross him, and Mr. McConnell mobilizing to their defense.

The rupture between Mr. Trump and Mr. McConnell comes at a highly perilous moment for Republicans, who face a number of urgent deadlines when they return to Washington next month. Congress must approve new spending measures and raise the statutory limit on government borrowing within weeks of reconvening, and Republicans are hoping to push through an elaborate rewrite of the federal tax code.

There is scant room for legislative error on any front.

A protracted government shutdown or a default on sovereign debt could be disastrous

Hopefully this means tax reform fails.

It'll be interesting to see how the Republicans deal with spending and raising the debt limit. I expect the worst now that Steve Bannon is gone. Balancing the budget has always been a top priority for me but I'm use to politicians not caring. When they considered the tactic of refusing to raise the debt ceiling as a weapon against Obummer, that didn't go over well as threatening default raises interest rates of government bonds and so is not how to approach these things.

Would be great to do a draft where you get to eliminate politicians. I'll go first: Eliminate Pelosi.

So President Trump is threatening a shutdown if funding for the border wall is not approved that makes the American taxpayer pay for it??? I swear something about that doesn't sound right.

this is what happens when you run your whole campaign making promises that you have no way of backing up. Mexico told him he can go fock himself from the very start. And now he wants 20 billion or whatever for this wall which isn't going to do a damn thing and he's mad because other people won't go along with his retardedness. Trump being Trump. Petulant little child.

What will be hilarious is when they catch the contractors using illegal Mexican labor to build the wall. You know it will happen.

Then we'd miss out on all those little gems like her recent revelation that "the constitution doesn't say you can yell wolf in a crowded theater".
