Defining La-Saving-Us Murray

Recommended Posts

Yesterday somebody on this forum mockingly asked me to define the term 'explosive,' in a football context. Well, a picture is worth a thousand words. Notice the separation he's getting on the defender, deep into the run. That's what a 4.37 40 time will do for you Skinny Boy.

I'm no GM, but that cut he made to his left to explode through the line... that looked special. His situation kinda reminds me of Charles a few years back, who exploded on the scene but inexplicably sat behind Thomas Jones for a while. Not saying he is the next Charles... but I'm not saying he isn't.

Let just hope that concussion doesn't cause him a few games.

He was up quickly and walked to the locker room.

He'll be fine.

The next one is the one to worry about

Yeah....I'm gonna go ahead and say he isn't the next Charles.

Dude had a good game, and he's got skills. But he's a fast back playing with fresh legs against a defense on a short week. He had a lot of things going for him last night. With the matchups he has on the horizon, he could just as easily be the next Bryce Brown.

Look at 0:26 - he is 3 yards behind the line and he has the vision to see the alley before it even opens up, he's made his cut before the play exists and then he uses his speed and burst to explode through it.

Explosion. Special talent plus vision = great potential.

Jamaal Charles is a freak. I'm just looking for a RB with some strong upside for my team. So we don't have to waste an early round pick on one.

Agree with you completely on Murray. School is most definitely still out. But now we know the kid can at least play.

I think the kid is legit. However, he has two huge knocks against him.

#1 Playing for the Raiders, who have a brutal run schedule ROS

#2 That concussion just opens the door for another, esp considering his running style.

It's the raiders. No upside.

Ha ha ha ha... yeah let's just discount that 23 fantasy points in one quarter of play because he's a Raider. No value there.

Yes i did and he's injury prone.

It's also TNF where the chiefs looked tired on defense.

He didn't out run anyone that was close. There wasn't a soul near him after he broke the line.

You're not paying attention. SaintsinDome2006 has the best and most insightful comment in this thread. Murray's 90 yard run happened precisely because Murray had the vision to detect a crease about to happen before it happened, and he exploded through it like a bullet out of a gun.

I'm optimistic on Murray, and we all know how quickly bad teams can turn into good teams in the NFL in this day and age of parity. I think the Raiders have something brewing, and are far closer to regular fantasy relevance than many think.

But I'm grateful for those many who don't think. Someone needs to occupy the basement in my fantasy leagues! :first:

Seriously buddy, don't fall into that dangerous game. I get the Raiders are a train wreck. But traditionally, no matter the scheme they've run, the running back position has held serious fantasy worth.

When healthy McFragile could put up very nice numbers. The Raiders run much of their offense through the RB position, both on the ground and in the air.

Obviously Carr has shown to possess heart and fortitude, in addition to his cannon of an arm. That offensive line is up and coming, Jackson and Watson are developing quickly in their second year, and Donald Penn has been very solid (though I lamented losing Veldheer to FA). Kalif Barnes has been a steadying influence and Wisnieski at Center is an All-Pro. If they follow the Dallas model and go Oline in the draft with their 1st or 2nd round pick that offensive line will be very tough for defenses to deal with. You put Latavius Murray with his strength, size and speed behind it and you've got very high upside. All they lack is a coaching staff with some vision. Really the only wildcard are these concussion symptoms, and how the kid comes back from this.

Seriously, don't sleep on this guy.

 at first I thought you were responding to me, and then after a couple of sentences I found myself nodding and realizing you were agreeing.
