Fearsome

Intentionally taking a zero at kicker and D/ST this week

Recommended Posts

I play in a limited transaction league (10 per season and have used 6 already) and I own the Ravens D/ST (currently 2nd in points in my league) and Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker (having an off year but still top 5 at position). I fear if I drop either I will lose them. I am 7-2 in first place with a one game lead. To replace either will take two moves since I will want to get them back after the bye. Just not sure. I won a game earlier this year with 1 point between them. Hoping I can do it again. My opponent this week is 2-7. Thoughts?

It's a thought, I don't know if I would take 2 zeros though.

You could compromise and pick up a FA for one of them

I would be more likely to drop Tucker because there is more likely to be a good kicker available

It would depend a lot on who is available, if decent FAs are available it's one thing but if you can't get a decent fill in, it's another

I understand the situation but I am in 3 different dynasty leagues and have always rostered just one kicker and one defense. The scoring is relatively even for most kickers and D's so I stream them when needed. Its safer and better than taking a 0 for each.

I completely understand. I wouldn’t give up my kicker either. My defense, Saints, have been great too, but I’m not as tied to them as my kicker.

How much are you projected to lose without those two? Or are you still favored?

Can't do it.

In every league I've been in there is a penalty of both points based on your teams avg points scored a that postion that you lose for having a open roster spot.

And a cash penalty.

So all postions must be filled with a player of def that's active that week.

Succop, Forbath, Prater, Gould and Hauschka are the top 5 available kickers this week. Tucker is 9th in points. Succop (3rd), Forbath (4th) and Prater (6th) rank higher.

On defense, the Saints (4th), Bears (10th), Steelers (11th), Bills (12th) and Cowboys (13th) are the top 5 available. The Ravens are currently 2nd overall, 25 points ahead of New Orleans.

Tennis, to answer your question, without those positions accounted for I am a 5 point underdog. Starting Brady, Ingram, Howard, Green, Theilen and Landry. So with a kicker and defense I'm probably a 7-10 point favorite.

the only thing stopping me would be the limit on the transactions. normally i drop that kicker in a heartbeat, and maybe defense too but if the 10 limit applies to playoff games too, then it changes things a bit. the team(s) that is/are 1 game back, what does it look like for them this week? I pretty much threw a game this week by dropping the Saints right before the game started to pick up a Steelers defense that wasn't even playing. I lost by 1.9 pts, but it didn't affect my playoff seeding at all. I knew I wouldn't get the Steelers on waivers this week due to their matchup vs Indy, and I had 5 of my better players on bye, so I had pretty much counted on losing anyway. Projections are just guesses anyway, the bigger thing is how will the loss affect your playoff seeding?

Yeah but in this guys league it seems to be ok. Thats my assumption given the post.

I would pick up Succop and just keep him ROS. I would take a 0 at defense and keep Balt D.

I have a 3 game lead on making the playoffs with 4 games to go. The division champ gets a bye into the semifinals. If I don't win the division it means playing one extra game. 10 team league. 2 five team divisions. Division winners get a bye and 2 plays 3 in each division to earn the right to face 1 in the division final. Winners then play for the title. I feel really good about making the playoffs. With my team I feel like I can even win this week without those positions. Byrdman5, I agree on Baltimore. I am glad its only Tuesday for the kicker move.

This.

I was going to say pick up a kicker who has had his bye and is healthy and run with him for the rest of the season

I really don't want to drop Jake Elliott (his worst game is 8 pts!), but his schedule is awful the next 4 games, and I can't afford to drop any of my other position players. Going to probably go after Boswell and drop Elliott :(

I dont mind this strategy.

but if there is a guy that you can pickup who plays sunday night or Monday, why dont you just wait until then to make your move. If it looks like your kicker wont affect the outcome, then take the zeros. If it looks like you need about 5 points to win, then drop someone to fill a roster spot.

This is sound advice. If' you make a move, make one move that you can ride the rest of the season. Succop is an upgrade over Tucker. Since week 3 I've been starting my secret weapon, Harrison Butker, who is quietly the highest scoring PK in the league since he took over in KC, although his average is still lower than Zuerline's on the season. But if you factor out the 3 games he didn't play to start the season when Santos was there he's got the highest average. But I dropped him last week because of the bye and picked up Zuerline, who was on waivers. Guy who dropped Zuerline the week before actually made me a trade offer for him at the deadline.

because his total points is low (due to missed games) he may actually fly under the radar. you may get him back (if you want him)
