Well that didnt take long. Aguayo, Buccs 2nd round kicker is already a bust after 1 PAT

Recommended Posts

If he has to "shake nerves" of his first nfl extra point, do you want him out there when the playoffs are on the line? Kickers dont have a learning curve, they should already be nfl kickers. I will be surprised if he makes it through the season.

Playoffs? This is the Bucs we are talking about. They have an abortion at QB.

You are gonna eat so much crow when he has a perfectly decent season. An abortion would have been like 3200yds 14td 17int. Instead he was the youngest ever to 4k, had over 20tds and pretty much was one of the best rookie qbs in recent memory. He is consensus ranked at least top 17 or so, top half of the league. Whats an over/under statline he will need this season for him to be declared "not an abortion"? Just curious where you draw the line for future reference and funsies.

That seems very harsh. I dislike Winston too but he proved to be a decent QB last year and I expect to see a little improvement.

I usually tend to agree with you frozen, but this has to be sarcasm. Right?

If there is any part of that Bucs team thats an abortion, it's definitely not the QB.

I truly think Winston is that bad. Maybe he has respectable numbers at years end from garbage time, but I don't get how anyone can watch him and not be worried about the hanging passes he throws up. His TD pass wasn't that impressive two nights ago. Russell Shepherd had to jump to get it and then the defenders just completely missed him. I just don't see it with this guy.

From the you've-got-to-be-kidding-me dept....the Bucs 2nd round draft pick, who was touted as Mr. Accuracy (and we've got a thread from a couple months ago about it), misses 2 of 4 field goal attempts, one from 32 yards out and one from 39.

And regarding the post above this one, Winston missed his first 6 throws tonight and finished 3-10-28-1-1.

Wow he really missed those kicks? See my statement is totally justified to me. Kickers are different and held to different standards than other positions. Winstons off night is different than Aguayos. Your accuracy in preseason matters. A kick is a kick, real game or not. A guy off the street? No prob, shake off the jitters. 2nd round pick? Inexcusable to miss those kicks. I said it then, I'll say it now, BUST.

Also kick offs have not been great. Not bad, but he was drafted to make a difference. His kick offs have not made a difference.

Then you need to go get your eyes checked Stevie Wonder.

He's awful and looks terrified. They could've had him in the 5th round.

Exactly, and there would be no need for a thread about him if they did. A 5th rounder is fine for gambles.

i agree but we should remember seabass missed 11 field goals in his 1st season,

but players don't get that 2nd or 3rd chance anymore and you cant really blame teams has the league is a win now league

He might even be a great kicker, but he needs mental coaching. I've never seen a more confidence lacking kicker. He looks like he doesn't want to be out there.

Why even draft a kicker? There's still a lot of capable kickers available on FA.

Because the buccs need to learn simple FF concepts like value over replacement. For real, any FF player could run their war room draft better than the front office. Just show me a list of players you have ranked, with blurbs about each of them, a list of consensus rankings and a positional needs chart and I will do the rest. Would get them a great draft chock full of value.

And he is GONE!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/08/12/buccaneers-admit-mistake-boot-aguayo/

In the NFL, it’s always better to admit a mistake than to compound it.

For the Buccaneers, the decision to burn a 2016 second-round pick on kicker Robert Aguayo has proven to be a mistake. The Buccaneers made the definitive admission of their error on Saturday, cutting Aguayo.

Yeah, the college stats suggested he'd be a great NFL kicker.

I dont know why someone wouldnt consider bringing in a top coach to get him back on track.

a little confidence would likely do some wonders for the kid.

How do you coach up a kicker?

well, just like a QB has what they call throwing mechanics, a kicker has kicking mechanics.

I'm technical enough to know that you generally want to plant your foot in a certain spot and go through a specific motion.

I dont know that that was his problem, but quite often with kickers, it is.

the other part is mental (or psychological) so maybe getting him a sports psychologist would help him.

with kickers, it's usually one or the other or some combination of both.

Good for the Buccs, it's hard to admit you burned a rnd 2 pick like that. Should have been done in regular season last year after half a season or so to be nice. Kickers aren't like other positions that need to grow and learn. They are what they are from day 1. They can either handle game situation pressure or not.

Vanderjagt never recovered. He was as good as they came before that fateful playoff miss against the Steelers (and it was no gimme...48 yarder), but it broke him. Something snapped. Dallas picked him up the following year, and he looked like Aguayo out there. Ironically, he missed 2 against his former team, the Colts.

The mental aspect of the kicking game cannot be overstated.

Blair Walsh is another example.

Made the Pro Bowl is first year (including an amazing 10/10 in FGs past 50 yards). Then he started missing. And kept missing. And kept missing. That shank against Seattle in the playoffs was just the final straw.

Less pressure than the Bucs? Maybe the Jags or LA Rams have an opening.

TB traded up into the 2nd to draft him. Even in tampa that's a lot of pressure.

Aguayo signed with the Bears, has to beat out Connor Barth, whom he beat out at Tampa last year. lol Barth isn't that good, Aguayo hopefully wins the job.

He beat out no one for anything last year. He was a 2nd round pick they traded up for. He promptly became the worst kicker in the league during preseason (see my first post). He is a liability on any team and will not beat out Barth this preseason. He is gawdawful.

I actually like Barth, and as a Vikes fan, I'd gladly have him over Forbath if the Bears release Barth.

What I will say in regards to TB, is they should at least get credit for admitting their mistake and moving on swiftly. Yeah, they made a bold move, and it didn't pay off. That happens in business, and in life.

But at least they didn't double down on the bad mistake and put the rest of the team in jeopardy. That's a sign of good leadership.

They have a lot of good things going in this new regime in Tampa, so people shouldn't dog them too much on this one mistake in my opinion.

Yay, Winston discussion! How about a stroll down memory lane....

Dee Dee McCarron tweeted during the Winston interview: "Am I listening to English?"

Bust or not...he should have better stats than AJ! ROWWWWWW TIDE

You should want to start Koehn instead of Forbath or Barth.
