The return of Antone Smith

Recommended Posts

Bucs just signed him. He can break off huge runs and it seems to me Doug Martin isn't doing as well as thought with that hammy since they signed him. Used to play for ATL with Koetter. He could get all the early work bc they don't have much anything else aside from Quizz. Worth an add?

Wouldn't Quizz still be the biggest benefactor at this point? The dude had 35 touches last week. I'd assume he's still the starter. If people didn't pick him up, is he #1 waiver add this week? Depending on Martin's status of course.

I read somewhere that A Smith was signed to be the starter. That's so weird to me. Rodgers is on the team, played reasonably well and knows the playbook but you are gonna sign someone off the street to start?

This certainly makes it difficult to envision using any sort of waiver priority on Rodgers...

Martin is done for next 2-4 weeks. You don't sign a 2nd guy off the street for the hell of it. It's Jacuzzi's show now until further notice.

Martin is out another 2-4 weeks? Where did you see this? Not calling you a liar, just curious.

He didn't see it anywhere. Just speculating and making it sound like fact.

J Rodgers can't handle the starting job until futher notice.

He had a lot of touches in his last game.

He's not built to keep doing so.

Makes since if they sign someone .

Agree Rodgers won't last very long as a in-between the tackles runner, he's really just a COP special teams type RB.

IRRC, Smith was very productive in Atlanta with the limited touches he got, and the dude can catch the rock.

I'll have to do some research on him. Bucs have a good RB schedule and I'm willing to pick this guy up if Martin misses time.

This is the same guy who always seemed to go 50 plus yards every time he made a rec Right?

Thanks for the response.

I think he's a good pick up.

Should be able to make some playes.

Good move by the Bucs.

Bucs signed RB Antone Smith.

Smith played for coach Dirk Koetter in Atlanta before spending five games with the Bears last season. The home-run threat will take the roster spot of Russell Hansbrough, who was waived Monday. Oct 17 - 10:20 AM

If Smith is so good why is he being picked up off the street?

Same reason Tim Hightower was?

Maybe he just needs an opportunity to make an impact.

Quizz is not the answer if Martin misses more time which is why they signed him?

The same Dirk Kotter that severely underused him?

In guess my point is, if this guy is so special and a Koetter favorite, why wasn't he on this team from Jump Street?

Why wasn't Hightower in the NFL before last season? Stuff happens.

Anyway.....

Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter said that because today was an extra practice day, any players on the fringe still dealing with injuries were held out. That means it's still possible that we could still see Doug Martin or Robert Ayers back practicing.

I would think today will tell us a lot. If he's back practicing in full I'm not sure Rogers has much value and you have time to drop him for someone else this week

That is standard- to have off Monday and Tuesday

If this is standard procedure (didn't realize this) then why are folks making a big deal stating Martin didn't practice on Monday?

Folks want news. And sometimes there's fire at the end of the smoke (vjax IR'd today). Other times, folks are just reporting what they know and going from there.

I understand folks want news but don't make unsubstantiated news on your own when there is none to report.

Meh...rotoworld put this out:

Doug Martin (hamstring) did not practice Monday.

Martin is expected to return this week, but it is slightly concerning he is being held out coming off the bye. Still, there will not be reason for serious worry unless he sits out Wednesday's session as well. Martin will be a locked-in RB1 if he suits up against the 49ers. Oct 17 - 10:42

Me personally im not keeping track of when every team practices or has a day off. I had no idea they had two days off...christ..like TB doesnt need the work.

Their coach also quoted that the Monday practice was an extra practice and that any players on the fringe due to returning from injuries were held out.

Doug Martin now out indefinetly? Is Antone Smith a stash today to see what he does tomorrow? Smith to play for Koetter in Atlanta. Rodgers is not the full time answer, but maybe Antone comes out of nowhere?
