Up 2 pts going into MNF, Should I still leave Miller in?

Recommended Posts

Here's the situation.

I am currently up in my yahoo league playoff game 130-128. My opponent doesn't have any players left to go and I have Lamar Miller.

If I bench Miller and leave my #2 rb spot empty, the only way my opponent would win is if there is a yahoo stat correction which are rare.

I know it's unlikely to happen but if I leave Miller in there is a chance that he can fumble once or twice (lost fumbles are -2 in my league) and my opponent still has a very small chance to tie or even win.

What would you do?

But in this case, sitting Miller would be more akin to taking the kneeldown to run out the clock, wouldn't it? Perfectly acceptable to not try to score more points in order to avoid the risk of losing the lead.

I understand the logic, and this type of question emerges every year about this time.

However, akin to throwing a game to play a certain opponent in the playoffs, this type of decision is bad fantasy ju-ju. I have seen it many times....and experienced it once. I never made that mistake again, nor advised others to.

I agree about not doing it, I wouldn't (and haven't when I've had the chance) either. But my reasons are entirely psychological--I would feel worse if I lost on the stat change than if I lose because a guy gets me negs. I don't believe in juju (participating in the FU thread isn't anything more than fun), but I do believe in playing to make myself the happiest. :)

That said, I don't think it's akin to throwing a game for seeding--I don't think it's bad sportsmanship. But I also would leave him in.

Ah, ju-ju is a constantly present fantasy reality, my friend (Is "fantasy reality" oxymoronic?). Nevertheless, it seems that we are in basic agreement......just coming from different angles.

Interestingly, my leagues consider an empty starting roster spot and illegal lineup.

What's the punishment, out of curiosity?

Actually in my league there is a rule that you must field a full team during playoffs.

Preventing collusion and tanking (by non-playoff teams).

Not sure why this is even up for debate? Unless you have a viable player to replace him with, he stays. You started him, deal with the repercussions, good or bad.

If you removed him, and his play resulted in a negative performance, your opponent should beat a path to the commissioner's door.

Illegal, incomplete, whatever you want to call it.. Should Miller royally crap the bed (and if he does, you are perhaps the most unluckiest fantasy player evah) oh well! It happens.

Why rob your opponent of that? That poor fella is behind and managed to start a complete team. And he could shock the world.

Take that slim chance.. I'm sure you'll be fine...

Good points, but to be fair, I doubt the world is watching :)

If it happened to me, they surely would. Close-captioned, the whole nine yards. (or negative 9 yards) LOL

And, you know...this weekend out of any weekend would be the weekend for a guy to get one carry, get slammed for a fumble, shatter his ankle, and be done for the day.

Rawls, Ware, Blount...and Miller.

2 pts seems plenty safe from stat correction. I'd take the 100% win. I've seen people lose in situations like this. usually a defense though.

I have seen passing TDs turn into rushing. Ouch.

They took away Khalil Mack's safety between yesterday and today. Just a sack now. That was more than two points. (By they, I mean Yahoo...NFL Stat corrections don't come till Wed.)

If there was no chance of a stat correction i would say benching him is fine (if allowed by the league). The possible stat correction is why i said he should start miller

Always play him. Otherwise the defense will get a stat correction and cost you those 2 points, guaranteed. As said before, that's more likely than him pulling a Travis Henry from that one year. He had like 2 carries for 2 fumbles then got hurt, lol.
