Wife wants to get a tattoo

Recommended Posts

I found out that my wife is planning to go get a tattoo. She didn't mention anything to me...was just going to go get it.

I am not a fan. Have plenty of friends with tattoos, but not cool with it on my wife. She knows that I don't like them.

How would you guys handle it?

I know this sounds extreme, but if we didn't have kids and she just went and got the tattoo, I would seriously consider telling her to GTFO.

As long as it's a trampstamp that reads....

Property of FFToday!

I'd be ok with it.

I will never understand it. I think it's simply an emotional decision. She wants to get her dad's signature. He passed away about a month ago.

She can get his signature made into a pendant and wear that on a necklace. She can take a picture and put it somewhere at work and/or in her car. Lots of options that aren't permanent ink on her body.

It's similar to smoking for me. Yeah, it's her body, but I find it repulsive. Note - she doesn't smoke.

I understand and agree with your objection.

How old is she? Can size?

Sounds like she is grieving and could benefit more from a counselor than from a tattoo.

34 and 34B/C depending on the bra...she got a boob job after our second child was done breastfeeding. Was a small A before kids and even smaller after she was done breastfeeding, so I said helll yes to the boob job. She wanted to "feel more like a woman." She doesn't flaunt them...other than to the GC.

Assuming this is a relatively small tattoo why do you care?

Consider yourself lucky if this is the kinda thing you stress over

I do, but the fact that she was just going to get it without even talking to me, is what really pizzed me off. Creates some trust issues. Working through some of that now. Just curious how others felt.

Obviously if you have tattoos and/or are good with them, you're going to say it's fine. But I'm curious how others who dislike them would handle it.

I'd be pissed. Chicks with tattoos are gross. Shut that down ASAP.

Yup, couldn't agree more. I've said this before, no bigger turnoff then a tattoo on a woman.

Bartender at a place that I frequent, absolute focking smokeshow (prolly 34 C). She's got a couple of small ones now that aren't really visible. She told me and a buddy the other day she wanted a half-sleeve down her arm. I told her it was a horrible decision and they look awful. She looked at me weird haha.

Size of the tattoo doesn't mean much to me. Location is more important. But see my previous post. The fact that she was going to just do it, is what really pizzed me off.

I also think tattoos are immature and for weak-minded people.

Already done. We talked about that and I was good with it. They were small to begin with...even smaller after kids. She doesn't flaunt them. I enjoy playing with them as much as you guys do. You're welcome

Perhaps a different topic, but how would you feel if your wife just decided to shave her head? What about doing those huge holes in her ears that keep expanding (put bigger rings in there until they hang down a couple inches)?

I understand the "it's her body mindset" to some extent, but where do you draw lines? Obviously the extreme is cheating...It's her body, but there has to be some boundaries.

Appreciate the feedback fellas.

I've always said women tend to get tattoos because they are missing something in their personality or missing some sort of attention. Because every girl does this. They get a tattoo everybody talks about it and wants to see it for 2 or 3 months and then nobody gives a crap. And what do they do next? They get another tattoo and repeat the cycle.

But she could also just be at the age where she feels like getting one later would just be very awkward.

Shaved head and those huge earrings are an extreme change. Not sure where exactly I draw the line but its somewhere north of small tattoos. She couldve mentioned it as a courtesy but I dont think its a big deal.

Indeed, we do enjoy them. :D

Tattoos are interesting. There is a chick at the gym who has a small heart on her left scapula. I think it looks hot, but I think so because she is otherwise smoking hot. If she were a fatty I'd think ewwww.

My wife (34 D) toyed with it years ago, also a belly button piercing. Never happened and at this point I think those ships have sailed.

Anyway, I'd be more concerned that she was going to do it without discussing it with you.

My wife has a two tattoos. The first one is a flower on top of her left foot. At the time, she told me she was thinking about getting a tattoo, but when she actually got it, it was kind of a surprise. I didn't think it was a big deal - it's not like it's an arm sleeve.

For her second one, she got a heart outline thru 2 infinity symbols, with mine and our kids' initials inside, on the inside of her left forearm. At the same time, I got a Celtic family symbol with her and the kids' initials inside, on my left shoulder.

Then again, we're both weak-minded, so....

A tattoo, no matter how small, is a big deal. She should at least let you know her plans and the fact that she didn't points to communication issues and an overall not giving a fvck about the your opinion. That's not to say you should have control over her body, but she should at least respect you enough to not hide it.

Pretty sure if I just showed up one day with a tattoo on my arm and told my wife I had been planning on it for a while, she would be hurt.

She probably thinks posting on a fantasy football website about whether or not she should get a tattoo is immature....... see how that works. Give and take. If it's something she truly wants then you support her but you also let her know that you aren't the biggest fan of it. This seems like a small tattoo that would make her happy. It's not worth the fight.

Tattoos are a gateway to slutty behavior and extra-marital affairs. You've been warned.

Some people will cry foul over this. I think there is merit to it. It doesn't apply to everyone. But, it has merit.

In college, we had this saying about chicks. "If they smoke, they fock". So true.

Yeah see the flower I just don't get. Doesn't say anything about you, doesn't make a statement. It's nothing.

The heart with kids initials your initials whatever. Does she love your kids more because she got this tattoo? Does anyone not know she loves the kids?

I just don't understand the appeal

Well, yeah, I got a tattoo...I must be, right?

Certainly not everyone is, but it is a generalization I make. I also think they are trashy on women.

Not every woman with a tattoo is trashy. Not every person with a tattoo is weak-minded. However, I havent heard a good reason to get or have a tattoo. If you just like them, thats cool. Im just not on board with that as a valid reason for my wife to get one.

I have a brand on my left bicep from when I was 16 or 17. I was immature at the time. No way I would do it today.
